hermes update only refreshed installed copies that still existed: once
/Applications/Hermes.app was gone (trashed, deleted by a tool, lost in a
migration) every later update skipped it silently, and Finder, the Dock
and Spotlight never found Hermes again. The ownership stamp that marks a
copy as this checkout's lives inside the bundle, so it left with it.
Record the installed copies the update keeps current in
desktop-installed-apps.json under the default Hermes root. When no owned
copy is left, a recorded path that is now missing still counts as
installed: the update rebuilds for it, reinstalls it and says so. A copy
the user moved to the other Applications folder keeps its stamp, so it
is found instead of doubled. The record is machine-wide, so Hermes' GUI
uninstall deletes it from any profile and an uninstalled app stays
uninstalled. Only the checkout that owns installed apps writes it; a
copy that failed to reinstall stays recorded so the next update retries.
The skip dates from 032cf8438f (#113933), which scoped the refresh to
existing bundles.
