launch_budget read free memory only from nvidia-smi, so a discrete AMD/Intel card launched at its
capacity window regardless of other programs' VRAM, the case that silently pages on Windows. It
now asks the engine's device probe afresh at launch (the polled view stays cached); the driver's
free count includes other processes (live: 16.2 GB held elsewhere read as 8.2 GB free of 26.0).
Docs: auto is a preference with the platform's pinned fallbacks, not an unconditional CUDA pick.
