Normalize 8.3 paths before stage dispatch and support read-only resolved-path output. Dot-sourcing loads definitions without running the installer. Test the PM delegation contract instead of restoring the removed Node installer.
Use native environment layouts in PM and Hindsight tests. Give steering-test parents no database so child construction cannot create SQLite files at mock paths. Parent verification passed 145 Python tests with one skip and all native PowerShell path, delegation, and stage checks.
Merge upstream 5e645791ac.
Retain the PM feature-flag owner and add upstream connection options.
Use the deny-only window-open policy while trusted external links keep
the existing IPC path. Keep both session-import and external-link copy.
Preserve captured timeout output when adding terminal yield handoff.
Quickstart tests patch the explicit upstream model-assignment owner.
Migrate incoming legacy OS markers to the branch's platforms gate.
Desktop renderer and Electron typechecks passed. Targeted Electron tests
passed (42 tests), Python conflict checks passed (26 tests, 3 skips),
and the plugin-compat import checker passed. CI owns the broad merge gate.
Publish-UiEvent only enters the delivery-wait loop under $script:UiServer,
and Show-ProgressWindow returns before the WinForms card is built whenever
the browser shim is up, so $script:Ui is always null there. The DoEvents
call could never run; the 50ms sleep loop is the whole wait.
A delayed browser could miss the 900ms terminal event and spin forever after the updater exited. Retain terminal delivery until the page acknowledges it, bound unavailable-client teardown and failed requests, and preserve a truthful final display.

pytest-xdist is gone: run_tests.sh no longer dispatches on host, the
Windows xdist (--dist loadfile) arm is deleted, and pytest-xdist is
dropped from the dev extra (uv lock removes it + execnet). The
per-file subprocess runner (run_tests_parallel.py) is THE runner on
every host — the shape the CI linux lane already used.
- tests-os.yml: the macOS/Windows lanes now run scripts/run_tests.sh
like every other lane, passing the marker-narrowed file list via
--files and -m after --. The runner natively tolerates per-file
empty collections (exit 5, platform-gated file) and fails the run
when NOTHING collected — replacing the hand-rolled exit-5 branch.
- tests/gateway/conftest.py: the hasattr(config, 'workerinput')
controller-guard was xdist-only dead code; the file-locked cache
already handled the per-file model. Removed.
- tests/tools/test_browser_supervisor.py: the port came from xdist's
worker_id (fixed 9225 under per-file isolation — concurrent files
collide). Binds an ephemeral port instead (bind 0, read back).
- ~35 comment sites named xdist as the isolation mechanism; they now
describe the shared-process hazard they actually guard against
(bare pytest runs, same-file ordering) without naming a runner that
no longer exists.
The footgun class-fix left 23 files with unquoted encoding=utf-8-sig
(and main.py an f-string with nested double quotes) — SyntaxError /
NameError 'utf' at every import. Quoted all encoding values, re-verified
py_compile across every staged .py.
install.ps1's merge resolution spliced Install-DesktopVoiceDeps/Install-Desktop
inside Stage-Complete's marker hash — parse error (MissingEqualsInHashLiteral)
broke every install.ps1 invocation incl. the protocol-surface CI lane and
6 managed-python provenance tests. Closed Stage-Complete, removed the dead
duplicate Stage-Desktop. bootstrap-installer.yml: checkout needs
fetch-depth 0 (shallow HEAD can't push to the bare mirror: 'shallow update
not allowed').
33 read sites across 25 files used BOM-intolerant encoding='utf-8'.
Windows tooling BOMs files it touches; json.load on a BOM'd file fails
with 'Expecting value'. Reads now use utf-8-sig (writes unchanged).
check-windows-footguns.py --all: 33 → 0.
installer-tests.yml (matching upstream) calls
test-install-ps1-longpath.ps1 + test-install-ps1-node-compatibility.ps1;
only the node-compat one survived the pm-era sweep + merge resolution.
Restored from upstream/main (323 lines, 8.3 short-path normalization
test that RUNS install.ps1 rather than parsing it).
smoke-payload.sh's third check ran '../bin/hermes' — a self-relative CLI
trampoline minted only by the desktop release workflow
(build-bundled-desktop.mjs → mint-launchers.py). 'pm bundle --out' stages
repo+store+venv only, so the shim never exists and every pm-bundle lane
died at that check (exit 127) since the workflow's birth (Aug 28, same
error on every branch). Keep the real boot checks (store python imports,
hermes_cli entrypoint --version, pm doctor); drop the shim check.
Review findings on #102117 (independent reviewer + itsflownium):
* hermes_cli.kanban_db.connect / connect_closing pointed at hermes_cli.projects_db (different DB, no
board= parameter). The compat generator ranked candidate homes by path proximity when a name is
defined in several modules. Now it requires shape compatibility with the BASE definition (same
literal for constants, superset of parameter names for defs) and prefers the facade's own
<stem>_* sibling. Same class fixed for tools.tts_tool.DEFAULT_XAI_BASE_URL (-> tts_tool_providers),
and 17 constants/defs that had been pointed at same-named strangers (Matrix MAX_MESSAGE_LENGTH ->
Signal's 8000, tts MAX_TEXT_LENGTH -> BlueBubbles', honcho/retaindb/supermemory *_SCHEMA -> another
plugin's schema, ...) are now restored from BASE verbatim instead.
* send_yuanbao_direct (restored-def): body called adapter._outbound.send_direct, which HEAD moved to
the sender; rewritten to adapter._outbound.sender.send_direct.
* COMPAT_MANIFEST.md states the scope explicitly: public top-level names only; private names and
test monkeypatch seams are not preserved.
* scripts/check_subprocess_stdin.py: _splat_carries_stdin looked 30 lines ahead in the file text
and was satisfied by an unrelated later stdin=; it now finds the splatted name's definition via AST
and requires stdin inside that expression/body.
Tests: tests/test_compat_manifest_targets.py (pointer identity vs the facade's sibling; kanban
connect(board=) opens a Kanban DB, not projects.db; both FAIL on the previous layer),
test_subprocess_stdin_guard gains the false-negative probe, and the MoA -Q quiet-output contract
tests are back (tests/agent/test_moa_quiet_reference_output.py) against build_moa_facade.
The Sep 2026 decomposition (PR #102117) makes internal import paths a non-API: names now live in
the focused modules that define them. This commit is the ONLY thing keeping the old paths alive,
so external plugins have time to update. It is deliberately a single, unsquashed commit:
git revert <this sha>
removes every shim, stub and manifest at once on the announced date. Nothing in-tree may depend on
these pointers: scripts/check_compat_pointers.py (wired into lint.yml) fails CI if it does.
What it adds (see COMPAT_MANIFEST.md, compat_manifest.json):
- 332 facade modules get one delimited `PLUGIN-COMPAT` block appended at the end of the file
- 1,172 moved names resolved lazily via a module `__getattr__` (PEP 562) — never a top-level import,
so no import cycles; facades that already had `__getattr__` get a chained one
- 592 third-party/stdlib names the old modules used to expose, with their original import statements
- 266 public definitions that had been deleted as unused, restored byte-for-byte from the pre-decomposition
tree (+40 private helpers and 16 imports pulled in only because a restored definition needs them)
- 3 deleted modules recreated as re-export stubs (gateway/startup_watchdog, hermes_cli/observability/
relay_runtime, tools/environments/modal_utils)
- private names (`_x`) get no pointer: they were never API (3,792 skipped)
Verified: all 335 touched modules import under a fresh HERMES_HOME and every manifest name resolves;
the lint reports zero in-tree uses; ruff clean; targeted suites unchanged.
run_agent.py: delete the `# noqa: F401` re-export block (agent.process_bootstrap
OpenAI/_SafeWriter/_get_proxy_*, model_tools get_tool_definitions/
handle_function_call/check_toolset_requirements, FailoverReason,
_qwen_portal_headers/_routermint_headers, session_persistence names,
estimate_request_tokens_rough, ContextCompressor + friends, jittered_backoff,
prompt_builder names, message_sanitization names, tool_dispatch_helpers
names) — 41 names run_agent never used itself — and the `_STREAM_DIAG_HEADERS`
back-compat class alias (no in-tree reader). run_agent now imports only what
it uses (get_toolset_for_tool, is_local_endpoint, coalesce/uniquify tool-call
ids, cleanup_vm/get_active_env from terminal_tool_lifecycle).
agent/*: `_ra().X` late-binds that only reached a re-export now import the
defining module directly (agent_runtime_helpers -> process_bootstrap.OpenAI,
model_tools.handle_function_call, session_persistence._safe_session_filename_component;
agent_init -> model_tools.get_tool_definitions/check_toolset_requirements,
_lazy_headers("agent.client_lifecycle", ...) for qwen/routermint;
system_prompt -> agent.prompt_builder / model_tools directly, dropping its
own _ra() shim and the `_r` parameter threading). `_ra()` stays for
run_agent-resident names (logger, AIAgent, _hermes_home, _set_interrupt, ...).
toolsets.py: remove resolve_multiple_toolsets (shim-only, restored by
34abf954bd); tests/test_toolsets.py pins the same union behavior via
resolve_toolset over each name.
providers/__init__.py: drop the OMIT_TEMPERATURE re-export (no callers via the
package); ProviderProfile stays because __init__ uses it for annotations —
2 tests repointed to providers.base.
agent/iteration_budget.py: drop the "run_agent re-exports the class"
docstring pointer; 4 tests import IterationBudget from its home.
model_tools.py (arg_coercion names), agent/tool_executor.py, and
hermes_cli/cli_session_mixin.py repoints landed via a sibling commit on this
shared worktree.
Callers repointed: gateway/run.py, hermes_cli/cli_chat_turn_mixin.py,
hermes_cli/cli_tui_mixin.py, tui_gateway/session_workdir.py,
agent/transports/codex.py (one-line imports) + comment pointers in
tools/file_state.py, tools/schema_sanitizer.py, scripts/tool_search_livetest.py.
Tests: patch("run_agent.X") / monkeypatch.setattr(run_agent, "X") /
`from run_agent import X` -> defining module across 99 test files.
For each issue anchor present in BASE 63279301bc non-test .py and absent on HEAD, the BASE comment/docstring block was re-attached at the HEAD location of the code it explained (matched by the distinctive code line / enclosing def). Sentences already covered by an existing HEAD comment were deduped; the issue number always survives. Insert-only: no code lines changed.
`Start-UiServer` printed the -SelfTestUi URL (and opened the browser window)
as soon as the TcpListener was bound, but the runspace that answers /progress
starts asynchronously — BeginInvoke returns before the pipeline is open and
the script block is JIT'd, which is seconds on a loaded runner. The kernel
accepted connections into the backlog during that gap and nobody answered
them. The self-test hit it three times (#90371 and two follow-ups each
widened a timeout instead of removing the race) and it just failed an
unrelated hermes_state.py PR (run 33591547099, two 5s stale-backlog
timeouts = red).
- windows.ps1: readiness handshake after BeginInvoke — one /progress
round-trip must succeed (≤15s) before the server is returned; on failure
tear the listener down and continue without UI. The URL now means
"serving", not "bound". Also fixes the browser opening to a page that never
loads on a slow machine.
- test: 1s per-attempt probe timeout so a single dead backlog socket cannot
consume half the readiness budget.
- CI: new `desktop_updater` classifier lane. tests/test_desktop_update_windows_*.py
spawn the real PowerShell script; the Windows-only job now runs them only
when scripts/desktop-update/**, the Electron updater launcher, conftest,
pyproject, or those tests change (push/dispatch fail open). A PR that
never touched that surface cannot be failed by its process timing.
Follow-up for salvaged #88472 (+ #100055 / #99995 / #88998 intent):
- add_contributor.py compares filenames with str.casefold(), the same key
scripts/check-case-collisions.py uses repo-wide, so non-ASCII folds
(ß ~ ss) are caught the way macOS/Windows fold them.
- The KNOWN_CASE_CONFLICTS allowlist is gone: the historical
agent@Agents-Mac-mini.local pair was removed on main (fcdae2cf0b), so the
repo-wide test asserts zero collisions.
- New tests: same-login different-spelling is still refused (the filename
pair is the problem, not the login) and the exact spelling stays
idempotent; casefold vs lower coverage.

contributors/emails/ uses the email as the FILENAME, so two mappings differing
only in case are the same file on Windows and on default macOS. The tree has
such a pair today:
contributors/emails/agent@Agents-Mac-mini.local -> skip-agent
contributors/emails/agent@agents-Mac-mini.local -> momomojo
git writes one and then reports the other as modified in a FRESH clone, forever.
The repo cannot be checked out clean on those platforms, which breaks any tool
that gates on a clean tree -- our own Windows Desktop rebuild refuses with
"fresh clone is NOT clean" and never gets to build.
add_contributor() now refuses a mapping that case-collides with an existing one,
for the same reason it already refuses a conflicting login: the tool exists so a
typo cannot silently reassign commits, and a collision does exactly that on half
the platforms it lands on.
Two tests: the guard, and a directory-wide check that no NEW collision appears.
The existing pair is pinned in KNOWN_CASE_CONFLICTS rather than resolved here --
the two files name DIFFERENT logins, so picking one reassigns a contributor
commit history, and that is a maintainer call. Please resolve it; the pin keeps
the breakage visible and stops it spreading meanwhile.
Verified: pytest tests/scripts/test_contributor_map.py -- 9 passed.

The previous fix split the bundle sign into two passes (dlib sign with no
/tr, then a separate `signtool timestamp` against digicert). That was
wrong for MSIX: signtool silently exits 3 on an untimestamped
.msixbundle (appx signatures require a timestamp), and the ATS dlib
cannot parse a third-party timestamp server's response at all.
Restore the original single sign call with
`/tr http://timestamp.acs.microsoft.com /td SHA256` — the only
timestamp server the dlib can speak (electron-builder's default, and
what the build legs' .msix sign uses) — and wrap it in a 3-attempt
retry so acs's intermittent flakiness never fails the bundle (signtool
replaces the signature on re-sign, so a retry is safe).
Verified: node --check, 215 signing/r2/appinstaller tests pass; skill
reference corrected (MSIX bundle sign requires the acs timestamp;
digicert -> "no content extracted", no /tr -> silent exit 3).
The publish-win32-updater job died at the bundle-envelope sign with
signtool exit 3 and "@url:`http://timestamp.digicert.com`: no content
extracted". Passing /tr on the SAME signtool call as /dlib hands the
timestamp URL to the Azure Trusted Signing dlib (`@url:` form), which
cannot extract a token from a third-party RFC3161 server.
Split it like the repo's own batch-sign-binaries.mjs (the pattern the
build legs use, and which the batch-sign tests pin):
1. `signtool sign /fd SHA256 /dlib <dlib> /dmdf meta bundle` — NO /tr.
2. `signtool timestamp /tr http://timestamp.digicert.com /td SHA256
bundle` — NO dlib; signtool does the RFC3161 exchange itself (probed:
digicert returns Status: Granted for a plain timestamp query).
3. `signtool verify /pa`.
The timestamp pass also retries (3 attempts) so a flaky server never
forces a re-sign of the ~2.7GB bundle.
Verified: node --check, 215 signing/r2/appinstaller tests pass.
The electron tsconfig, renderer, e2e and electron-builder checkJs passes
now all pass cleanly. Three pre-existing issues fixed (the branch is
ahead of upstream/main, where none of these files exist):
- package-process-reap.ts: guard `isUnderInstallRoot` loop members with
`typeof root !== 'string'` so the TS union (string | readonly string[])
narrows before normalize() — the old `if (!root)` did not narrow arrays.
- msix-shared.mjs: add JSDoc param/return types to the four git-tag
helpers and the stamp/XML/Content-Type helpers so the electron-builder
checkJs pass (which walks this module via its import graph) stops
flagging implicit-any.
- electron-builder.config.cjs: bind storeMsix to a local + a
mustStoreMsix() assertion helper — `store` is typed boolean, so checkJs
cannot correlate it with the optional storeMsix; the helper is the
single documented assertion point (checkJs forbids `!`).
The fast-moving desktop prerelease channel is now "canary" everywhere:
the tag shape (vX.Y.Z-canary.<ts>), the electron-updater/R2 feed dirs
(canary.yml / releases/<os>/canary/), the update-channel consts and CLI
choices, the MSIX build-number derivation, the App Installer channel
paths, and the Windows Store flight var (MS_STORE_CANARY_FLIGHT_ID).
Also renames the scheduled workflow to canary-release.yml and the
release test file to test_release_canary.py, and flips the CLI flags
(--canary / --prune-canaries / prune-canaries subcommand).
Unrelated "nightly" mentions are untouched: Brave's own browser channel
(browser_connect), cron scheduling prose (README, i18n, cron/browser/
kanban docs, zh-Hans), upstream skill docs (comfyui/unsloth/torchtitan),
evals fixtures, Node's node-nightly prereleases, and cron job names in
gateway tests.
Note: MS_STORE_NIGHTLY_FLIGHT_ID was renamed to MS_STORE_CANARY_FLIGHT_ID
in the workflow — the matching repo/org variable on GitHub must be
renamed in repo settings for the Store flight ring to keep working.
Flip publish-win32-store back on (was a dummy skip), restore the store
variant build in build-win32, and wire the MSStore CLI submission:
- stable tags → production submission: msstore submission delete (clear
any pending, tolerant) then msstore publish <Store-*.msixbundle> -id.
- nightly tags → package flight ring: msstore flights submission delete
then msstore publish -f <flightId> -id. delete-then-replace so the
newest nightly always wins the single-slot submission queue (chosen
over skip-if-pending: always ship the newest, at the cost of cert
churn).
- Gate: runs for stable when MS_STORE_PRODUCT_ID is set; runs for
nightly only when MS_STORE_NIGHTLY_FLIGHT_ID is ALSO set, so the
flight ring stays off until the flight exists in Partner Center.
- The r2 staging loop archives the per-arch Store-*.msix again (and the
assembled universal bundle is archived by the store job).
Credentials (release-signing environment): MS_STORE_TENANT_ID,
MS_STORE_SELLER_ID, MS_STORE_CLIENT_ID, MS_STORE_CLIENT_SECRET
(secrets); MS_STORE_PRODUCT_ID, MS_STORE_NIGHTLY_FLIGHT_ID (vars).
Verified: yaml parses + needs graph resolves, store variant build
restored, bash branch harness (nightly→flight / stable→production)
executes the right msstore invocations, 215 js tests pass.
App installer feeds are the update path; the MSStore flow is parked.
publish-win32-store is now a dummy skip (ubuntu notice step, kept in the
dependency graph so nothing downstream changes), and build-win32 no
longer builds the store variant (--variant=store removed). The r2
staging loop's Store-* archive branch and the store-bundle script stay
in the tree, documented, for re-enable.
Verified: yaml parses, needs graph resolves, no --variant=store remains
in the build step.
Run models locally as a first-class provider. The CLI grows a managed
llama.cpp runtime (engine install, model download, server supervision);
the desktop app grows the full setup and management story on top of it.
GUI surfaces ship behind the desktop --local launch flag (hermes desktop
--local, or the flag on the packaged app); backend routes and the CLI
are always live.
Runtime (hermes_cli/local_runtime/):
- curated GGUF catalog with per-machine variant selection: hardware
probe (VRAM/RAM/UMA), fit planning with spill accounting, quant choice
by context window
- derived recommendation: quality-ranked picks gated by a predicted
decode-speed floor, bandwidth-aware on unified memory; the decision
table is pinned as a test (pick AND reason per memory class), and the
Recommended badge explains its pick in a tooltip fed by the resolver's
actual branch
- engine install + model download with resumable split parts, cumulative
plan-level progress, and staged-model integrity (a split GGUF counts
only when every part is present)
- server supervision: spawn/adopt/stop, router mode with per-model load
progress relayed over SSE, abandoned-request cleanup
Desktop:
- Settings -> Providers -> Local models: one-click quickstart (install
engine, download the recommended model, boot) plus per-model download/
activate/eject, fit-ranked catalog with context pills
- model pickers (composer dropdown + Cmd+K) show staged local models,
in-flight downloads as live progress rows, and load-into-memory bars
- local-setup campaign tip for eligible hardware; System resources
statusbar widget (GPU/VRAM/RAM); in-chat load progress during sends
- friendly dead-server errors, and failed agent builds retry on the next
send instead of wedging the session

The msixbundle + finalize jobs were both gated on the entire 6-leg build
matrix, so macos + linux legs blocked the win32 App Installer feed and
everything else downstream.
Restructure desktop-bundled-release.yml into per-OS jobs:
- build-win32 (x64 + arm64) — the only active builder legs; builds the
bundled + Store variants, audits arch, uploads *.msix, stages to R2.
- build-darwin / build-linux — dummy skips for now (no macOS updater arm;
linux unshipped). Matrix kept so downstream jobs stay green; re-enable
by restoring the build body + runners.
- publish-win32-updater (was msixbundle) — needs build-win32 only; stages
the App Installer feed (.appinstaller + universal .msixbundle).
- publish-win32-store (NEW, parallel) — bundles the two Store-*.msix into
one universal Store .msixbundle and submits it to the Windows Store via
the MSStore CLI (microsoft/microsoft-store-apppublisher@v1.4). Stable
tags only; gated on MS_STORE_PRODUCT_ID var so it stays skipped until
the release-signing environment is configured. The store bundle is left
unsigned on purpose — Partner Center re-signs on ingestion.
- publish-darwin-updater (was finalize) — dummy skip; no mac feed to
publish until the darwin electron-updater arm returns.
Shared plumbing: resolveWinSdkTools moves into msix-shared.mjs (single
resolver for both bundle jobs, kills the dead candidates var); new
bundle-store-msixbundle.mjs bundles the store per-arch packages and
prints the bundle path on stdout for the workflow.
Verified: node --check all scripts, yaml parses + needs graph resolves,
107 r2-release tests pass.
Linux is case-sensitive; Windows and macOS are not. Two tracked paths
differing only by case (README.md vs readme.md, src/Foo.py vs SRC/foo.py)
land fine on Linux and silently break every clone on a case-insensitive
host — the filesystem holds one, so checkout fails or whichever wins
clobbers the other. Git won't stop the pair from landing; it only warns
at checkout time on a case-insensitive FS. This is the enforcement point.
Adds scripts/check-case-collisions.py (index scan keyed on casefolded
full paths) + an unconditional workflow_call job wired into ci.yaml and
the all-checks-pass gate — unconditional because a collision can ship in
any kind of PR (docs, JS, config), not just Python, so gating on a
language lane would be the same passive-rule trap the infographic check
closes. Tests in tests/scripts/test_case_collision_check.py build
collisions via git update-index --cacheinfo so they run on
case-insensitive filesystems too.
