docs: root AGENTS.md becomes a hub; area rules move where they load
The root file is project context and was 38.7k chars, past the context-file budget (20k floor, 30,720 on a 128k window), so every session lost its middle: routing table, testing rules, code-shape rules. It now keeps the two invariants, a condensed rubric (every rule kept), environment, structure, one-line rules that apply everywhere and the routing table (11.8k). Moved verbatim to where they load: Testing -> new tests/AGENTS.md; dependency pinning and PM ownership -> new pm/AGENTS.md; machine facts -> new hermes_platform/AGENTS.md; session-scoped tool availability -> tools/AGENTS.md; the full rubric with its real-close examples -> developer-guide/contributing.md. Pointers in lint, checker messages, docs and test comments name the new homes. |

fix(tui): answer the vault save-login and verification-code prompts
The TUI (and the dashboard that embeds it) answered vault.save_login and vault.code with -32601, so a browser sign-in could never save a login or take a 2FA code there. Builds on liuhao1024's save-login card: both vault cards now sit beside the unlock prompt in maskedPrompt.tsx on the shared MaskedPrompt (the identifier and the code are shown as typed, the password is masked), all copy is localized, and one SENSITIVE_PROMPTS list drives Esc/Ctrl+C decline, request.cancel teardown, the tab-title marker and the pet, so a new credential prompt can't be missed by one of those gates (Esc on the save-login card previously did nothing). fix(tui): render the vault.save_login prompt so browser logins can be saved
Rebased onto the current server-request architecture: the vault.save_login server->client request now opens the two-step card from createServerRequestHandler (request.cancel tears it down), the answer travels as one JSON ValueResult string, and an empty step / Esc / expiry declines with an empty value so the blocked wait resolves instead of burning its 180s deadline. |

fix(desktop,tui): /browser use [off] works outside the CLI
The Desktop and TUI subcommand pickers offer /browser use (it is in the registry's subcommands), but both handlers only knew connect, disconnect and status, so picking it printed the usage line. browser.manage gains a use action (enabled: bool) that writes the session profile's browser.backend through the same set_browser_use_mode helper the CLI now calls, and status/use report browser_use. The handler is profile scoped, so a worker session writes its own profile. A live agent keeps its tools (prompt cache), so Desktop and TUI say the switch applies to new chats instead of swapping tools mid-conversation. use and status also run on remote backends; connect/disconnect stay local-only. |

feat(fast): /fast ultrafast for GPT-6 Astra, priced at the served tier
OpenAI's Ultrafast service tier (service_tier="ultrafast") is broadly available for GPT-6 Astra in the API and Codex (Pro 500 / Enterprise), billed at 6x Standard. GPT-6.1 Sol Ultrafast is announced as coming soon. - One tier table: agent.fast_mode.parse_service_tier / STATIC_TIERS now back the CLI, gateway and TUI config loaders (three hand-copied parsers). - resolve_fast_mode_overrides(tier="ultrafast") sends the tier only for Ultrafast models on api.openai.com / chatgpt.com; anything else gets nothing rather than a silent swap to another paid tier. - /fast ultrafast on CLI, gateway (typed + picker when supported) and TUI; static-tier attach sites pass the tier through. - Pricing: the response's SERVED service_tier is folded into usage (Codex stream assembler keeps it); served ultrafast prices from a published 6x row (272K whole-request tier included). A request asking for Ultrafast but served at default bills at Standard. - i18n: 4 new keys in all 17 locales; option lists mention ultrafast. |

Clarify: one question shape and one result shape on every surface (skip, cancel, timeout and undelivered are told apart) (#127760)
* refactor(desktop): split clarify-tool.tsx into a clarify/ folder
Pure moves, no behaviour change. Parsing, the question-card core
(shell, choice rows, question block), the delivery watchdog, and each
pending/settled card get their own file so the core can be reused.
* feat(clarify): one questions[] shape with per-question status and one outcome
The clarify tool now takes only questions=[{question, choices?, multi_select?}].
A wrong shape is a tool error that names the right one, so a model that
sends the old top-level question/choices corrects itself on the next call.
Every result has the same shape on every surface: each response carries
status (answered, skipped, unanswered) with user_response null unless
answered, and the result carries one outcome (submitted, cancelled,
timed_out, undelivered) plus an optional surface-written notice. The
timeout and cancel sentences that used to pose as the user's answer are
gone, and the compressor reads status instead of matching their prefixes.
The callback contract is callback(questions) -> {answers, outcome, notice?}
(None = skipped, missing qid = unanswered). tui_gateway settles a batch the
same way for the last lock, a cancel, an interrupt and the deadline, and
clarify.lock keeps a null answer as a skip. A multi-select answer that is
not a JSON array counts as one typed ("Other") answer. The tool-row preview
reads the first question.
* feat(clarify): every surface asks through the one question card
CLI: the batch panel is the only panel; Enter on an empty field skips a
question, Ctrl+C cancels and keeps the locked answers, the deadline returns
timed_out. -q and -z return undelivered with a no-user notice.
Ink TUI: the single-question prompt is gone; the card supports multi-select
(Space or a digit toggles, Enter locks, typed Other text joins the picks),
an empty submit skips, Esc cancels, and "Batch" names are dropped.
Desktop: the single-question card is deleted and its keyboard handling moved
into the one card (arrows, letters and digits, auto-advance, Enter picks then
confirms). Confirm enables at one answer; blank questions lock null; Skip and
a composer message cancel; the settled card shows No answer for unanswered
questions. The bots room card follows the same contract.
Messaging: one card per question with a "Reply skip to skip" line in every
locale; timeouts and delivery failures map to timed_out and undelivered.
* fix(clarify): cancelled for a released messaging card, labels win over the skip word
A prose reply to a messaging choice card, /new and session end released
the wait with "", which read as timed_out. They now resolve with a
CANCELLED marker and the tool gets outcome cancelled.
A typed reply that matches a choice label ("Skip") now resolves to that
choice; the skip word applies only when no choice matches.
The bots room card sends the picked labels as they are; the tool already
strips the recommendation label. Unused OUTCOMES and a new docstring and
comment are removed.
* fix(tui): re-editing a multi-select answer keeps its picks
The Ink card stored a multi-select answer as display text ("A, B"), so
revisiting the question put the whole string into Other and re-locked it
as one item. The answers map now keeps the raw JSON array, the card
restores the picks on revisit, and only the display lines format it.
Comments that earlier edits reworded are restored to their original
words, minus the phrases the change made wrong. The compute-host clarify
lock accepts None for a skipped question.
* test(clarify): align three checks with the one-answer confirm and the regenerated keys
The desktop Cmd+Enter test now expects a send with one answer (the blank
question locks null), the compressor test expects the single-answer summary
the code gives, and locales/_keys.desktop.json is regenerated for the
removed and added clarify strings.
* test(tui): the one-question card header is singular

feat(i18n): pluggable, layered language packs across core, Desktop and TUI (#126296)
* feat(i18n): layered catalogs — plugin packs and user overlay over bundled locales
* feat(tui): i18n layer — en catalog, nanostore runtime, RPC pack loader, _keys.tui.json emitter
ui-tui/src/i18n/: en.ts (facade over topical siblings under en/), types.ts
(Translations + dotted TranslationKey derived from en), runtime.ts ($locale/
$catalog atoms, translateFrom active→en→key, pack merge with string→fn
wrapping for {0}/{1} placeholders), loader.ts (display.language →
i18n.catalog {lang, surface:'tui'}, English when the method is missing),
useT()/useLocale() hooks, t() for non-React code. useConfigSync feeds the
loader from the existing config.get full hydration. `npm run i18n:keys`
writes locales/_keys.tui.json (sorted flat key list) and runs before build.
* feat(plugins): provides_locales manifest field, ctx.register_locale/register_locale_dir, manifest-only language packs
* chore(tui): split en catalog siblings by lane (slash sibling)
* feat(plugins): validate language packs — parse, text-only, key-subset WARN against en / _keys exports
* feat(tui_gateway): i18n.languages / i18n.catalog RPC + regenerated contracts
* feat(config): display.language accepts any supported_languages() id, refuses unknown ids with the list
* docs(i18n): language packs user guide, pluggable display.language, plugin developer section, AGENTS notes
* feat(plugins): report language-pack layers in the mid-run activation summary
* feat(tui): wire status bar, composer placeholders, hotkey help and approval/clarify/confirm prompts through i18n
StatusRule maps compared state values (ready/running…/summoning) to catalog
text at render via displayStatus(); hotkeys()/placeholder() resolve lazily so
a pack that arrives after boot applies. Catalog grows to 81 keys.
* feat(desktop): pluggable app locales — registry, host.i18n.registerAppLocale, backend packs, keys emitter
- Locale widens to string (BundledLocale keeps the union); TRANSLATIONS stays
the bundled record and every consumer resolves through the registry.
- src/i18n/registry.ts: registerAppLocale(id, {endonym, rtl, translations})
layers partial packs (nested or flat dotted) over bundled/en via
mergeTranslations; a string over a function-valued en entry becomes a
positional {0}/{1} formatter; $appLocaleVersion bumps so translators
re-render; per-source disposers + replaceAppLocaleSource for atomic swaps.
- Backend packs: i18n.languages + i18n.catalog {surface:'desktop'} feed the
registry as source 'backend' (method-not-found is silent); re-synced on
socket open, display.language change and profile switch. A saved pack-only
language is promoted once its pack registers.
- SDK: host.i18n.registerAppLocale / languageOptions; ctx.i18n.registerAppLocale
tracked for unload. Docs in the desktop plugin SDK guide + skill reference.
- Language switcher lists bundled ∪ registered ∪ backend, endonym-only; RTL
from the registry (applyDocumentLocale takes rtl).
- npm run i18n:keys emits locales/_keys.desktop.json (wired into build).
* i18n(cli): route /topup + /subscription copy through t() (cli.billing.*, cli.subscription.*)
Module-level copy tables and modal choice tuples in cli_billing_mixin.py froze
English at import, before display.language was known. They are now key tables /
builder functions evaluated at call time; every user-facing line in the /usage
balance block, /subscription and the five /topup screens reads the catalog.
Choice VALUES stay English identifiers. Fragment-assembled status lines
(Plan: … → cancels · $x left · renews …) become full templates.
* i18n(gateway): exec-approval card contract + base/run/run_busy/run_inbound replies through t()
- base_exec_approval: EA_* English constants stay; add ea_header_text()/ea_reason_label_text()/
ea_smart_deny_line_text()/ea_default_reason_text()/ea_action_labels()/approval_timed_out_notice()
accessors; deadline + timed-out notice resolve via gateway.exec_approval.*
- BasePlatformAdapter._EA_HEADER/_EA_REASON_LABEL/_EA_SMART_DENY_LINE/_EA_ACTION_LABELS become
properties (adapters still shadow them with markup class attrs)
- run.py: provider error replies table holds catalog keys; _CONTEXT_OVERFLOW_REPLY -> _context_overflow_reply()
- run_busy/run_inbound: typed approval + slash-confirm matchers accept English ∪ approval.inputs.* (t())
- locales/en.yaml: gateway.exec_approval/busy/errors/... namespaces
* i18n(cli): wire modal, loops, agent-setup mixins through t() (cli.* keys)
* i18n(platforms): route Slack, Matrix and Feishu user-facing text through t()
Exec-approval markup overrides (_EA_HEADER/_EA_REASON_LABEL/_EA_SMART_DENY_LINE/
_EA_ACTION_LABELS) become per-call properties over the shared
gateway.exec_approval.* contract keys, so Slack's 3000-char section budget
measures the resolved template. Slack _APPROVAL_DECISIONS/_CONFIRM_DECISIONS,
Feishu _APPROVAL_LABEL_MAP and Matrix _EA_LEGEND/_EA_TYPED_HINT turn into
key tables resolved at click time; the Matrix typed hints become whole
sentences per offered tier instead of spliced fragments. Slack button labels
are cut to 75 chars and select placeholders to 150 after translation; the
model-facing clarify fallback answer ('choice N') stays English while the
card copy localizes.
locales/en.yaml gains the gateway.exec_approval.* contract keys plus the
platform.shared.* / platform.slack.* / platform.matrix.* / platform.feishu.*
namespaces (and the keys for the other adapters wired in follow-up commits).
* i18n(gateway): run_turn / run_turn_runner / approval-settle copy through t()
- status hints, proxy errors, background task notices, progress heartbeats, session info lines
- tool progress chrome (tool_head/tool_pending/tool_preview/tool_verbose) shared by base.format_tool_event
- run_turn_runner:1406 Chinese clarify placeholder -> gateway.clarify.native_stream_placeholder (zh text kept in zh.yaml)
- _UNEXPECTED_SILENCE_REPLY/_CLARIFY_EXPIRED_NOTICE -> accessor functions
* i18n(platforms): route Google Chat and Teams user-facing text through t()
Google Chat clarify card, typing placeholder, orphan-card labels and the whole
/setup-files reply set (module constants become platform.google_chat.setup_files.*
keys resolved at reply time). The attachment-fallback notice that shipped
hardcoded in Spanish is keyed with an English en value; es.yaml carries the
original Spanish text for those four keys.
Teams approval card header/reason use the gateway.exec_approval.* contract,
_APPROVAL_LABELS becomes a key table resolved at click time, and the meeting
summary writer resolves its section headings/fallbacks per render.
* i18n(platforms): route LINE, WeCom, email, DingTalk, IRC and Home Assistant text through t()
LINE default copy constants become catalog keys resolved in __init__ (the
LINE_*_TEXT / extra.* operator overrides still win); the busy-ack bypass
matcher keys on the leading emoji marker only, so it keeps firing once the
gateway busy heads are localized. WeCom media size/format notices that shipped
hardcoded in Chinese are keyed with English en values and zh.yaml carries the
original Chinese text. DingTalk emotion bubbles resolve per send.
* i18n(cli): route /model switch output and -q status lines through t() (cli.model.*, cli.single_query.*)
Switch-summary labels shared with the gateway reuse gateway.model.* keys
(provider/context/max-output/capabilities/prompt-caching); CLI-only variants
(glyph or no-backtick forms) live under cli.model.*. The hand-padded /model usage
block becomes a (form, description-key) table padded at render time so the
command syntax stays fixed while descriptions translate. -q 'Error:' reuses
gateway.model.error_prefix.
* i18n(cli): route TUI panel/hint/placeholder copy through t() (cli.tui.*)
_APPROVAL_CHOICE_LABELS and _TUI_MODAL_HINTS become key tables resolved at
render time; vault/sudo panel bodies are one catalog value per panel split on
newline; inline plurals use <key>_one/<key>_other. Adds the cli.* namespace
(shared/tui/voice/render/subagents/dock) to locales/en.yaml.
* i18n(cli): voice/wake-word CLI copy through t() (cli.voice.*)
RuntimeError texts raised in _voice_start_recording are human copy (callers
print {e}) and are keyed; the Termux requirement-check match stays English.
Wake state ids stay internal, only their labels localize.
* i18n(cli): live-work dock, subagent monitor and render copy through t()
cli.subagents.* / cli.dock.* / cli.render.*; count fragments pluralize via
_one/_other keys, verdict table holds keys resolved at paint time so width
clipping measures the translated text.
* i18n(gateway): unauthorized/pairing, voice, topics, shutdown, startup, notifications, kanban pings through t()
* i18n(cli): move tips + composer placeholders into the catalog (tips.tNNN / tips.placeholder.pNN)
get_random_tip()/get_random_composer_placeholder() pick a key from the English catalog
(the parity baseline, probed once per process) and resolve it through t() for the active
language, so language packs translate tips like any other string. Also lands the cli.*
en.yaml namespace consumed by the CLI info/help/error-copy wiring in the next commit.
* i18n(cli): wire chat-turn + session mixins through t(); kanban log trimmer matches t() output
* test(cli): assert TUI/dock/voice copy via t(key); prove labels resolve at render time
Pinned-English assertions in the approval-UI, live-work dock and voice tests now
go through the catalog. New test swaps the catalog after import and checks the
approval panel + hint row follow it (the reason _APPROVAL_CHOICE_LABELS and
_TUI_MODAL_HINTS became key tables).
* i18n(cli): route CLI info/help/error copy through t() (cli.* namespace)
cli_info_mixin: /help consumes CommandDef.describe() (added to commands.py: slash.<name>.description
with fallback to .description), section titles/skill/quick-command headers, /tools, /toolsets,
/usage labels, /context, /whoami, /insights, /gateway status, tool-progress labels, bang-shell
denials, MCP config-watch + /reload-mcp confirm/reload lines, /reload-skills, and the session-store
warning all read the catalog at call time (module-level label tables became functions so the
active language is honoured after startup). cli.py: worktree cleanup, tirith warning, show_config
(labels re-padded at print time), quick/plugin/skill slash-command errors, ambiguous-command hint,
stdin error, gateway start, profile warning. cli_chat_error_copy / cli_unknown_command /
cli_output / cli_init_mixin: chat error panel copy, did-you-mean lines, n-more / yes-no prompt
(localized affirmative initial alongside 'y'), unknown-toolsets warning.
* i18n(w1a): wire agent display/explainers/approval + slash registry/help through t()
- hermes_cli/commands.py: CommandDef.describe() resolves slash.<name>.description
at call time; category labels via slash.category.*; help/alias/usage suffixes
via slash.shared.*; gateway_help_lines and commands_platforms/slash_exec use them.
- agent/display.py: display.verb.* resolved at call time via get_tool_verb();
bridge/spinner/thinking-verb/cute-row/failure/preview/diff text via display.*.
- agent/turn_explainers.py: exit-reason / persistence-cause tables become call-time
lookups (explainer.exit.*, explainer.persistence.*, explainer.file_mutation.*).
- agent/background_review.py, session_activity.py, context_breakdown.py,
status_output.py: review summaries, iteration progress, context notices.
- tools/approval.py, approval_context.py: approval.summary.*, approval.noun.*,
approval.window.* pluralized keys.
- gateway/slash_commands*.py: remaining raw strings (busy, whoami, platform,
bundles, memory, skills, approvals, set_home, diff, update, debug, profile,
heartbeat, refine, review, subgoal, loop, retry, compress codex path, save,
sessions, model guard/errors, agents rows, topup, login). HISTORY_UNREADABLE
keeps its English constant; callers use history_unreadable() ->
gateway.shared.history_unreadable.
- locales/en.yaml: new approval/display/explainer/slash blocks + gateway leftovers.
* i18n(telegram): route adapter chat copy through t()
Approval card (header/reason/smart-deny as HTML-escaped properties), inline
button labels, callback toasts (cut at Telegram's 200-char cap), model/choice
pickers, clarify/update/slash-confirm prompts, gmail-triage labels and the
inbound-media failure notice now come from the catalog. _UNAUTHORIZED is a
lazy _unauthorized() so the import no longer binds a language. The command
menu carries a language+payload fingerprint (forum scopes re-register on
change) and BotCommand descriptions are cut at 256.
Adds gateway.exec_approval.* (WAVE2 contract), platform.telegram.*,
platform.discord.* and the slash.*.description keys the Discord table shares
with the CLI registry to locales/en.yaml.
* i18n(gateway/platforms): whatsapp_cloud, yuanbao, weixin, signal, api_server copy through t()
- whatsapp_cloud: clarify list/buttons, approve/deny + slash-confirm labels via platform.whatsapp.* (t()-then-truncate at 20/24/72 caps); _EA_HEADER becomes a property wrapping ea_header_text()
- yuanbao: SLOW_RESPONSE_MESSAGE -> slow_response_message() (platform.yuanbao.slow_response_notice; zh keeps the original text); cron-wrapper markers centralized as module constants for strip_cron_wrapper
- api_server: PROVIDER_AUTH_FAILED_LABEL/PROVIDER_RATE_LIMITED_LABEL stay English for run.py matchers; user_text() renders via t()
- signal/_format_wait, weixin voice caption, openai_routes transformed notice
- run_turn: second _UNEXPECTED_SILENCE_REPLY consumer -> accessor
* i18n(discord): route adapter chat copy through t()
Native slash-command table becomes _NATIVE_SLASH_COMMAND_SPECS holding catalog
keys; _native_slash_commands() resolves descriptions, parameter descriptions
and Choice names for the active language, each cut at Discord's 100-char cap,
and the app-command sync fingerprint now includes get_language() so a
display.language change re-syncs. Exec-approval card (gateway.exec_approval.*
contract), slash-confirm / clarify / update views, model+choice pickers,
thread creation, forum titles, voice acks, the response-truncation notice,
the unauthorized-slash security alert and the media upload-size notices all
read from platform.discord.*. Decorator-declared button labels are relabelled
in __init__ (80-char cap); embed titles cut at 256, select placeholders at
150, option label/description at 100. _UNAUTHORIZED is a lazy _unauthorized().
* i18n(cli): wire status-bar, stream, terminal mixins + terminal_input through t(); rename kwargs that shadow t(key)
* i18n: wire hermes_cli/cli_commands_mixin.py slash-command copy through t()
- 431 new leaves under cli.commands.<cmd>.* in locales/en.yaml; 12 rows reuse
existing gateway.* keys (rollback, diff, resume, branch, btw, model, reasoning)
via a _gt() helper so CLI and gateway replies stay identical.
- Module-level English tables (_BUSY_MODE_*, _REASONING_TOGGLES, _HATCH_PROGRESS,
_DIFF_LABELS, _LOCAL_ENGINE_LINES) become call-time catalog lookups keyed by id.
- Verb tables (Enabling/Disabling, Paused/Resumed/Triggered, planned/done,
Updating/Generating) are one full template per variant; plurals use
<key>_one/<key>_other via _tn(); hand-padded column labels (/snapshot list)
translate the value and re-pad at the call site.
- Multi-line usage blocks are single catalog values split with _lines().
- Model-facing system notes and DB-stored reasons stay English (EXCLUDED).
* tests: assert /handoff, /worktree, /login CLI copy via t(key) instead of pinned English
* test(i18n): pin Telegram/Discord adapter catalog wiring
Lazy unauthorized notice, exec-approval contract keys, HTML escaping before
Telegram <b> wrapping, 200-char toast / 256-char BotCommand caps, Discord
100-char app-command text and 80-char button caps, and language-bearing
command-menu fingerprints on both platforms.

Adds en siblings billing.ts / subscription.ts / connection.ts (namespaces
billing, subscription, connection, journey) and routes every user-facing
literal in billingOverlay, subscriptionOverlay, connectionSetupOverlay and
journey through useT()/messages(). Module-level label tables became lazy

useSessionLifecycle,useInputHandlers,turnController,createServerRequestHandler,
setupHandoff,createGatewayEventHandler}.ts, gatewayClient displayed reasons,
lib/*, domain/*, hooks/* through t()/messages(). Status-bar state values that
code compares against, backend-matched strings, log lines, model-bound text,
and machine 'error:' prefixes stay literal. Regenerates locales/_keys.tui.json
(232 keys).

Deliberately identical to en: chatBits.branding.mcpSummary ({0} MCP), chatBits.thinking.agentsHint ((/agents)), session.main.voiceStt (◉ STT), session.main.voiceTtsSuffix ( [tts]), slashCmd.core.help.tuiSection (TUI), slashCmd.core.history.hermesTag (Hermes #{0}), slashCmd.debug.heapdump.heapPath (heapdump: {0}), slashCmd.debug.mem.rss (rss), subscription.stepUp.title (Remote Spending — product feature name, as in core catalog), content.faces.* (glyph-only kaomoji).
* i18n(ga): translate TUI pack
* i18n(af): translate TUI pack
* plugin_guard: locale catalogs in language packs step down the agent-config family
A translated status line such as "Updating AGENTS.md" in locales/<lang>.yaml is UI text the loader
reads as a string leaf; it cannot edit a file. The bundled en.yaml itself tripped agent_config_mod
at critical, making any faithful language pack uninstallable. Injection shapes keep full severity.
* plugin_validate_locales: read key exports with utf-8-sig (Windows footgun lint)
* i18n(relay): route relay adapter prompt copy through t(); drop dead import-bound approval header
Adds platform.relay.* (5 keys) to en and all 16 bundled locales, reusing the sibling platform
translations for the confirm buttons and the Other option.
* ci: fix TUI import order, MDX table pipe, main's overflow-warning wording in all locales; fresh-install fixture carries the i18n kernel
- ui-tui/src/i18n/en.ts: perfectionist/sort-imports (slash before slashCmd)
- docs plugins/index.md: escape the | inside the provides_locales table cell (MDX parsed <id> as JSX)
- display.notice.uncompressed_context_overflow: adopt main's wording (names compression.enabled: false
and /compact) in en + 16 locales; the guardrail test pins that phrase
- tests/scripts/test_fresh_source_install.py: the installer tail now resolves CLI text through
agent.i18n, so the fixture tree carries the i18n kernel + en.yaml (not the agent runtime)
* docs(desktop-plugin-sdk): double-backtick the template-literal example (MDX evaluated ${n})
* test(e2e): display.language is validated against the live language set; exclude it from the arbitrary-string set property
* commands: keep the localized COMMANDS/COMMANDS_BY_CATEGORY module __getattr__ after the compat block removal
* build: never write locales/_keys.*.json from the desktop/TUI builds; regenerate the committed desktop key export
The desktop build regenerated locales/_keys.desktop.json in the checkout, so a
hermes update that rebuilt the app left the tree dirty (Desktop update E2E:
'M locales/_keys.desktop.json'). The key exports are committed artifacts pinned
to en.ts by apps/desktop/scripts/i18n-keys.test.mjs and ui-tui i18n:keys:check;
builds read them, never write them. Regenerated after main's new desktop strings.
* test: unbreak two main-red timing tests the PR merge-ref inherits
- test_local_runtime racing fake publishes the modern state record (legacy pid-only
records are rejected since 65ff3ad353; main has been red on this test since)
- test_run_progress_topics ManyProgressLinesAgent waits for the first bubble instead of
a fixed 0.35s, which a loaded CI runner does not always meet
* chore(i18n): regenerate desktop key catalog for main's new strings (model pricing, copy changelog)
* test(e2e): torture-chamber fd monitor confirms a deleted sidecar is still held before calling it a leak
SQLite's WAL last-close unlinks -shm before closing its descriptor (unixShmUnmap, then
unixShmPurge), so a healthy close shows a (deleted) -shm for microseconds; the 20ms poll
occasionally caught that window on the short-lived opener and failed the episode.
* chore(i18n): regenerate desktop key catalog for main's telemetry/consent strings
* chore(i18n): regenerate desktop key catalog after main sync

fix(metrics): startup latency counts once per client launch, never after an in-place exec
- m9: shared_metrics.startup_latency had no server-side latch, so any repeat call added a row. The TUI and Desktop now send an opaque per-launch id (TUI: one per process; Desktop: minted when the once-per-launch main-process claim succeeds) and the backend claims (surface, launch_id) once per process: a reconnect re-sending the same launch counts once, a new Desktop launch against a long-lived backend still counts. Legacy clients without an id count once per backend process and surface. The id is only a local latch key (bounded set, length-capped), never recorded. Only a usable measurement spends the claim. Contract + apps/shared regenerated. - m10: relaunch() execs in place, keeping the PID, so `sessions browse` -> resume counted the picker time as CLI startup. relaunch() stamps its PID in HERMES_RELAUNCHED_PID right before exec; process-start surfaces skip when it matches, while children (other PIDs) inheriting the env still count. - m8 (psutil half): record_process_ready checks the opt-in gate before reading the process start time (psutil) or starting a thread. The claim is taken first so a later opt-in never records a stale "startup" mid-session. Test changes to existing assertions: the TUI/Desktop param assertions now expect launch_id (a new wire param); the RPC surface test sends distinct launch ids so its three calls stay three launches under the new latch. |

fix(tui): dashboard Chat-tab TUIs never report startup latency
The dashboard's in-browser Chat tab spawns a TUI per terminal it opens (HERMES_TUI_DASHBOARD), so every tab counted as a TUI launch and skewed the tui startup distribution toward "tab opened", not "user launched Hermes". Skip the report when DASHBOARD_TUI_MODE is set (review finding M9). |

feat(tui,desktop): report launch-to-ready latency once per launch
The backend buckets and records hermes.startup.latency, but only the clients know when they were launched. The Ink TUI reports Node process uptime at its first gateway.ready; Desktop reports Electron main-process uptime when the renderer's gateway first connects. The Desktop latch lives in the main process because renderer reloads, extra windows and backend reconnects all re-run the renderer boot. Both calls are fire-and-forget and swallow errors so older backends without the method are unaffected. |

feat(telemetry): per-model tool-call quality, friction and context-peak counters
Three shared-metrics counters that answer "which models misbehave, frustrate
users, or run out of room", all attributed to catalog provider/model names
(custom endpoints and loopback servers collapse to custom) and all behind the
existing enabled() gate.
hermes.model_tool_quality.count {provider, model, call_role, issue}
Counts every tool call a model emits where the agent validates it, clean calls
as issue=none so the rates have a denominator: invalid_json, unknown_tool,
schema_mismatch (missing required keys / non-object), empty_arguments (only for
tools with required params), repaired (Hermes fixed the name or the streamed
argument JSON and ran the call). Stream assembly marks args it repaired and the
chat transport carries the marker onto the normalized ToolCall, because
normalization otherwise erases it.
hermes.model_friction.count {provider, model, signal}
retry / undo / interrupt / quick_abandon / switch_away, blamed on the model that
produced the turn: the relay session remembers its last primary route, so a
/retry after a /model switch still counts against the retried model. Counted
where the action executes, once: CLI handlers (skipped on the TUI slash worker's
shadow CLI), tui_gateway command.dispatch retry/undo and session.undo (Ink
/retry now sends intent=retry, so it counts as a retry, not an undo), gateway
/retry and /undo (multiplexed runners bind the owning profile home), and every
/model surface via record_model_switch(from_model=...). Interrupts and quick
abandonment (session closed within 60s of a failed turn) come from the runtime's
turn close, for attended entrypoints only; a turn still running when the
session closes is neither.
hermes.context_peak.count {provider, model, peak_fill_bucket, window_bucket, limit_hit}
One row per closed top-level session: the fullest primary context it reached
(post_api_request now carries the compressor's context_length) and whether a
call was rejected as too large (context_overflow / payload_too_large, the
rejections Hermes answers with a forced compression). A session whose every
call overflowed still reports, with unknown buckets.

feat(telemetry): Ink TUI reports each typed slash command to shared metrics
createSlashHandler fires shared_metrics.slash_command once per user-typed command at the point it resolves: before a local registry command runs, before a widget launches, or before slash.exec. Catalog alias/prefix expansion re-enters with the typed flag kept, so a typed /hea counts once as /heartbeat; the backend's alias directive re-enters with typed=false, as does the model picker's /model <choice> (the typed /model that opened it already counted). /queue, handled in useSubmission before the slash handler, reports there. Fire-and-forget, errors swallowed. createSlashHandler tests that asserted "no gateway traffic" for local commands now ignore the metrics call. |

feat(tui): double-Esc interrupts the active turn
/stop needs typing a command mid-run and Ctrl+C clears the composer when it holds a draft, so the fast emergency brake was missing. A second Esc within DOUBLE_ESC_MS now interrupts the running turn through the same turnController.interruptTurn path Ctrl+C and /stop use — with an empty composer only, so the existing idle draft-discard convention is untouched and a single Esc never cancels work. Two guards keep the old semantics intact: the interrupt defers to approval/clarify overlays (they own Esc until answered) and to escape-configured voice PTT chords (two quick presses are a stop/start pair, not an interrupt). Fixes https://github.com/NousResearch/hermes-agent/issues/62478 |

feat(cli): /s as a one-letter alias for /steer
/queue has /q; /steer forced users to type the full word mid-run just to inject a line after the next tool call. Add the same one-letter alias in the central registry (every surface derives from it) and mirror it in the TUI's local slash registry, the way /q is mirrored — checked that no TUI-local /s binding shadows it (the /q vs /quit collision, #31983). /i for interrupt stays out: /interrupt is not a registered command yet (#69954 holds that decision), and the issue gates the alias on its existence. Fixes https://github.com/NousResearch/hermes-agent/issues/119176 |

fix(tui): Ctrl+C shows the same partial reply the session saves
interruptTurn seals bufRef at the keypress and drops later message.delta frames, but the agent keeps streaming until it notices the interrupt and persists every delta it delivered. Deltas already in flight were saved to state.db (and replayed next turn) without ever being drawn. The interrupted message.complete carries that persisted partial; when it extends the sealed text, the interrupted bubble now takes it (or a bubble is added when nothing had been shown yet). |

fix(tui-gateway): report Fast only where the route accepts the priority tier
A profile-wide agent.service_tier: fast reaches every new session, including local llama.cpp ones. The request builders already drop the fast parameter on routes that do not bill for it, but session.info reported fast: true whenever the tier was priority. The desktop then kept the Fast switch visible so it could be turned off, tagged the model row Fast and appended "· Fast" to the pill for a local model. session.info now asks resolve_fast_mode_overrides, the gate the request builders use, before it reports fast. While a model switch is pending, the new pick decides, because the agent's base URL still belongs to the old route. service_tier is still reported as stored. The TUI status bar reads info.fast alone. |

refactor(hermes-ink): reuse one hasMultipleCodepoints and drop the pre-clear SGR reset
Export the surrogate-aware helper from termio/parser.ts instead of a near-identical copy in log-update.ts. The combining-grapheme pre-clear no longer resets style/hyperlink before its space (the glyph overwrites it immediately), keeping SGR/OSC8 coalescing across runs. The isEmptyCellAt guard stays as the last condition, so a fresh multi-codepoint draw onto an empty cell writes only the glyph (no leading space or cursor move). fix(ui-tui): flush the buffered streaming tail at message.complete
`TurnController.recordMessageComplete` was the only turn-end site in the class that never called `flushStreamingSegment()`. Every other site that ends or seals a stream does — `pushInlineDiffSegment`, the interim seal, `recordToolStart`, `recordInlineDiffToolComplete` — and `interruptTurn` preserves the buffer explicitly. The consequence: when the gateway supplies its own final answer via `payload.text` (or `payload.rendered`), `this.bufRef` is not the source of that answer, so any text streamed after the last flush — typically the narration between a tool call and the end of the turn — was still sitting in the buffer when `idle()` cleared it. The user watched that block render live and then saw it vanish from the transcript at turn end. Flush the buffer as a segment instead of appending it to `finalMessages`. Because the segment spread already sits ahead of the final assistant text, stream order is preserved structurally rather than by hand-ordering a push, and `finalTail()` strips the tail out of `finalText` when the completion payload already contains it, so no duplicate is rendered. Pending tool rows attach to the flushed segment through the same `pushSegment` path used at every other flush site, so they still appear exactly once. The flush is skipped when neither `payload.text` nor `payload.rendered` is present: in that case `rawText` IS the buffer (the #16391 fallback), and flushing would publish the final answer as a segment instead of the final assistant message. fix(tui-gateway): never park an idle /steer on the agent
With no live turn, AIAgent.steer() still accepted the text and the gateway answered 'Steer queued'. Nothing drained it until the next turn's pre-API drain spliced it after the newest tool row, possibly one from an earlier turn (misplaced, cache-breaking), or it was requeued. - command.dispatch /steer: idle sends the text as the next turn with a notice (CLI parity) instead of calling agent.steer(). - session.steer: idle answers 'rejected' without touching the agent, so clients fall back to their next-turn queue. - TUI /steer: a rejected steer is queued for the next turn, not dropped. Merge origin/main into ethie/pm-clean
Conflict resolutions and semantic fixups: - utils.py / hermes_yaml.py: main widened ruamel's round-trip emitter so a long double-quoted scalar is never folded after an escaped backslash. pm-clean builds every rt emitter through hermes_yaml.roundtrip_yaml(), so the width lives there (ROUNDTRIP_YAML_WIDTH moves with it); xai_retirement imports it from hermes_yaml. - hermes_cli/banner.py: keep pm-clean's removal of the banner update check. Main's GIT_NO_LAZY_FETCH fix for it applies to its replacement, source_check: every read-only probe (source_git_env) now refuses promisor lazy fetches, and the partial-clone test targets that probe (red without the flag). - .github/workflows/tests.yml: keep setup-pm; main's uv pin bump does not apply. Main's WAL-capable SQLite gates are kept, run against $HERMES_PYTHON (the PM-pinned interpreter, SQLite 3.53.1). The e2e step takes main's --include-integration invocation. - apps/desktop: package.json has no build block here, so main's macOS locale-marker restore joins the darwin branch of the existing after-pack.mjs, and its test loads the hook from electron-builder.config.cjs and imports PlatformPackager from app-builder-lib's root (electron-builder 27 exports no ./out paths). The win32 row is dropped: this hook sanitizes and signs PE trees on win32 by design. - reconciliation.ts: main's rowId hydration (#119326) was merged into the first of pm-clean's split helpers only; the resolver is now one helper both halves use. - en.ts: both sides' keys kept. tests/tools/test_lazy_deps.py stays deleted. - Tests main added with `import yaml` use hermes_yaml, like the rest of the tree. |

test: restore TUI status-rule clock and title guards dropped by #120071
- appChromeBlockedTimers: 'status-chrome timers track the current overlay model' (#12463). Each overlay state is mounted on the real StatusRule: the in-flow prompts (approval, billing, clarify, confirm, secret, subscription, sudo), agents/journey and the ambient dock keep the 1s clocks running, and the occluding set pauses them. Gating clarify/ambient in $isStatusRuleOccluded turns it red. - appChromeBlockedTimers: the existing 're-syncs the elapsed read-outs' test flaked under load (a fixed 20ms flush); it now polls for the reveal frame. - appChromeStatusRule: session title renders without a raw accent background fill (#82465 contrast bug). - appChromeStatusRule: idle-since read-out is shown when idle, hidden while busy and before the first turn completes. |

feat(tui): goal row above the live-work dock
The Ink TUI already lists queued follow-ups above the composer; a standing
/goal only surfaced as transient status text after each judged turn. A one-
line row above the live-work dock now shows it: "⊙ goal · 3/20 turns ·
<title>", "⏳ goal parked · until 14:32 · <reason>" or "⏸ goal paused ·
<reason>", and leaves once the goal is done or cleared.
State comes from the existing session.control contract: one
session.control.read when the session changes, then the
session.control.update events the backend already publishes after /goal
commands and judged turns. No new polling of state.db.

Inspired by Amp: pick the workspace a dashboard chat starts in
A fresh dashboard /chat always spawned the TUI in the dashboard process's launch directory, so from a phone or any browser there was no way to aim a new session at a specific repository. Amp's runners now serve many directories and the web composer offers a picker of the runner's projects and discovered git checkouts; this ports that mechanism onto the surface Hermes already has: the dashboard is the phone/web front, the host's projects.db + repo-discovery cache are the served directories. - GET /api/chat/workspaces: the profile's projects (with folders) and discovered repos (session-derived + scanned), default_cwd, home; ?scan=1 rescans desktop.repo_scan_roots on the host, so headless installs (no Desktop to populate the cache) discover repos too. - /api/pty?cwd=<dir>: validated (existing directory, fail-closed 400 via the PTY error path) and forwarded to the TUI child as HERMES_CWD (self-spawned gateway cwd) + HERMES_TUI_CWD (explicit cwd on session.create for the dashboard's in-memory gateway, whose own cwd is the launch dir). Resumed sessions ignore it. - ui-tui: session.create carries cwd when HERMES_TUI_CWD is set, so /new inside a dashboard chat stays in the picked workspace too. - web: workspace selector in the Chat rail above "New chat" (projects, repos by recency, Other path…, rescan), remembered per profile in localStorage; 17 locales. - docs: web-dashboard.md rail + REST sections. Live E2E: real `hermes dashboard` under a scratch HOME with two git repos under desktop.repo_scan_roots -> /api/chat/workspaces?scan=1 lists both; /api/pty?cwd=repo-a -> TUI status bar shows ~/code/repo-a; /api/pty?cwd=<missing> -> "Working directory does not exist" + close. |

feat(connectors): the backend API for the desktop Connectors page; connect an app without a chat session (#115191)
* feat(connectors): the backend serves a connector's tool list, cached for 24 hours
The Connectors page opens one app and shows every tool it has. The backend
had no way to read that list.
- `tools/connectors/portal/`: a client for the portal's tool-list route and a
JSON cache under the Hermes home, one file per portal origin and connector.
An entry is fresh for 24 hours. After that the read revalidates with the
stored ETag: 304 keeps the list, 404 deletes the entry, an upstream failure
serves the stored list marked stale, and a 401 never serves the cache.
- `connectors.tools {slug, refresh}`: account-level, routed by `profile`, no
chat session. Errors carry a fixed `reason` from one closed set on the rail.
- Every connector model that is not operation state moves into
`tui_gateway/contracts/connectors.py`. Handlers that no chat session owns
live in `tui_gateway/methods_connectors_account.py`.
The wire model is tolerant: an unknown facet reads as unclassified and one odd
tool never blanks a connector.
* feat(connectors): catalog, accounts and member tool rules by RPC
The Connectors page needs the app catalog, the connected account of one app,
a way to disconnect it, and the member's own on/off rules. None had an RPC.
- `connectors.catalog`: name, description, category and logo of each app.
- `connectors.accounts`, `connectors.accounts.remove`: read the accounts at
the tool gateway and remove one by id.
- `connectors.policy.get`: the rule layers that apply to the member, widest
first. The body is a union on `mode`, so a reader can name who turned a
tool off.
- `connectors.policy.set`: one change, a union on `type` (the tools of one
connector, or one connector on or off), with the revision the user saw. A
stale revision answers `POLICY_CONFLICT`. The backend composes the upstream
write in one pure function, so no renderer learns the upstream rules.
- Bundled MCP manifests can name their hosted twin with `connector:`, so the
page can show one card per app.
* feat(connectors): connect an app without a chat session
Every connector RPC took a `session_id`, and a connect that did not come from
the model's tool call minted a link with no watcher. The Connectors page has
no chat session, and its card must flip to connected by itself.
- `connectors.list`, `connectors.connect`, `connectors.operation.status`,
`connectors.operation.wake` and `connection.respond` take `owner`, a union
on `type`: `session` (today's behaviour and authorization) or `account`
(routed by `profile`, authorized by the live transport like `mcp.*`).
`session_id` is gone from these params; every desktop caller sends `owner`.
- An account connect runs the same operation lifecycle on a background
thread, under the profile's scope, so the watcher reads the account and
settles the operation. A second connect for an app that is already
connecting returns the open operation and mints nothing.
- `connection.update` carries `owner`. An account operation has no session to
address, so its updates go out on the session-less broadcast path.
* feat(mcp-catalog): eighteen more bundled entries name their hosted connector
A bundled MCP entry and a hosted connector for the same app are one card
on the Connectors page only when the manifest names its hosted twin.
Linear and Notion had the field. These entries get it too: airtable,
asana, attio, calendly, dropbox, figma, railway, supabase, todoist,
betterstack, canva, cloudflare, datadog, intercom, neon, sentry, stripe
and vercel. Atlassian maps to two hosted connectors and Prisma Postgres
is not clearly the same app, so both stay without one.
* refactor(connectors): the account handlers share one gate, one params model and one write table
The six account-level handlers each repeated the availability gate, the
auth catch and the catch-all reply. One decorator now owns that, and each
handler validates its params with its contract model instead of a ladder
of isinstance checks. The five connection RPCs share one guard for the
unexpected-failure reply.
The four write composers for the member rules were the same function
with a different list key and polarity. They are one table now.
The owner union lives in contracts/common.py, so the params side and the
event side stop declaring it twice and the import cycle is gone.
An account operation start carries one event and a flag, so the wait for
the sign-in link blocks instead of polling every 50 ms. run_operation
loses its two account-only parameters; drive_operation is the second
entry point.
Tests: four deleted (they exercised pydantic or the mock), three merged
into tables, two added (a client that still sends the old top-level
session_id is refused; all six account RPCs run off the server loop).
The shared reply helper and the HTTP and managed-client fakes move to
one place each. Comments are one line or gone.
* fix(connectors): a missing tool-list route reads as "unavailable", not "connector gone"
The tool-list read treated every 404 as the portal's "this connector is
not in the catalog" answer. It deleted the cache entry and answered
CONNECTOR_NOT_FOUND, so a page would offer to remove an app that is
connected and works. A portal that does not serve the route yet answers
a bare 404 for every app.
Only the portal's own {"error": "connector_not_found"} means the
connector is gone. Any other 404 is now a tool-list outage: the cached
list is served as stale, or the RPC answers TOOLS_UNAVAILABLE.
* fix(connectors): a connect from the page returns to the app after sign-in
The sign-in link carries a return target only when the session's surface
is the desktop. A chat session binds that surface. An account-owned call
has no chat session, so nothing bound it: the link was minted without a
return target and the browser ended on the portal's done page instead of
coming back to Hermes.
Every account-owned call now runs with the process's own surface bound,
next to its profile scope. The operation thread copies that context, so
the first link and every reissued link carry the return target and the
operation id.
* test(connectors): defer the new connector RPC coverage
The tests for the new account RPCs, the portal client, the tool-list cache
and the rule composer leave this PR and come back in one later change, after
the API is settled. The same was done for #111008.
Kept: the edits that existing tests need because the five connection RPCs
now take `owner` instead of `session_id`, and the rename of the managed
client seam.
Removed: six new test files, their two fakes and the gateway conftest, and
the new cases in test_mcp_catalog.py, test_connectors_gateway_client.py,
gateway-rpc.test.ts and notifications.test.ts. Reverting this commit restores
all of them.
* fix(cli): the connection panel hands the tool thread back at once
The classic CLI's connection callback waited on a queue for the user's first
decision. The operation's watcher starts only after the callback returns, and
the watcher is what polls a hosted account, runs the 300-second deadline and
sees Ctrl+C.
For a hosted connector the panel opens on the sign-in link, where the only
key that filled the queue was Cancel. The account was never polled: the user
signed in, the panel never changed, and Esc reported the app as skipped.
Ctrl+C set the interrupt flag but left the thread parked on the queue, so the
turn never ended.
The callback now opens the panel and returns, as the gateway's callback does
for the desktop and the Ink TUI. The panel's actions already reach the
operation through apply_answer on the UI thread, so the queue is removed. An
install with a form still waits for Connect, because the backend starts no
work for a pending row. Ctrl+C now settles the operation as `interrupt`, and
open rows become `not_connected`.
Checked on the e2e rig with the fake tool gateway: hosted connect completes on
the third status read; Ctrl+C ends the turn and the polling stops; an MCP
install with a plain and a secret field still saves config and both values.
* fix(connectors): "run it again" lives in the library, so the classic CLI can use it
Making a new sign-in link for a failed or expired hosted connector was
implemented only in the JSON-RPC layer (`_reissue`). The classic CLI does not
go through JSON-RPC: its Connect button on a failed row called apply_answer,
which does nothing for a hosted operation because it has no MCP runner. The
panel showed "Waiting…" until the deadline.
`tools.connectors.run.reissue(operation, names)` now holds the checks and the
per-kind action, and returns a refusal reason or None. The gateway maps each
reason to the same JSON-RPC error as before. The CLI calls it for a hosted
row; a refusal is shown on the row. MCP rows keep their path, because Connect
on a failed MCP row re-sends the form values.
Checked on the e2e rig: a scripted failed sign-in, then Connect: a second mint
with `reinitiate: true`, a new link with a new connection id, then connected.
* feat(connectors): the account list and disconnect go through the portal
`connectors.accounts` and `connectors.accounts.remove` called the tool
gateway. They now call the portal's account-management routes
(`GET /api/v1/connectors/accounts`, `DELETE /api/v1/connectors/accounts/{id}`),
which apply the organisation membership checks and write the disconnect audit
row. There is no fallback to the gateway when the portal is unavailable, and a
removal is never retried.
The read of ONE account stays on the gateway (`GET v1/connectors/accounts/{id}`):
the portal has no such route, and the operation watcher polls it once per second.
`ConnectorClient.list_accounts` and `delete_account` are removed. The removed
account's reply model carries `connector`, which both services send.
* fix(connectors): the account RPCs answer what the portal really sends
Checked against the portal source and against the staging and production
services.
- Errors are read from the upstream error code, not the HTTP status. A rule
write answered 409 for a stale revision and for a user with no organisation;
both read as "the policy changed". `org_required` is now `ORG_REQUIRED` and
403 `no_access` is `ORG_ACCESS_DENIED` on every account RPC; only a rejected
sign-in is `NEEDS_NOUS_AUTH`. `connectors.list` and `connectors.connect` with
the account owner map these too.
- `connectors.policy.get` and `connectors.policy.set` carry `effective`: the
portal's own result for this user, with its stamp and without provider or
subject ids. Nothing is recomputed locally.
- A rule write needs the revision the user saw: `expected_revision` is required
and must be a revision string; a bad one is refused before any HTTP call.
- A tool row carries `no_auth`; a list without the upstream flag is an invalid
answer, not `false`.
- `connectors.accounts.remove` returns the app of the removed account. An
invalid id is `INVALID_PARAMS`.
- The tool-list cache is per signed-in member (a hash of the token's `sub`),
so two Nous accounts on one profile do not share entries.
- A malformed slug is a local error, not a 404 from a server nobody called.
Live, staging: no revision and a malformed revision refused locally; a good
revision wrote one disabled Gmail tool and returned it in `effective`; the
same revision again answered `POLICY_CONFLICT`; the list row showed the tool;
the restore brought the member rules back to the start. Live, staging and
production, read-only: all 60 tool lists (5483 tools) parse.
* fix(connectors): the operation RPCs match their contract; a settled card cannot start a new link
Found by two adversarial reviews of the RPC layer and its types.
- `connectors.connect` from a chat session with no open operation is refused
(`UNKNOWN_OPERATION`). It used to call `manage_connections` through the tool
registry with no card: it made a link nobody watched, returned a reply
without the required `settled` field, and named an operation that was never
registered. There is one way into an operation: the agent's call, or the
account owner's `connectors.connect`. "Run it again" inside an open
operation is unchanged.
- `connection.update` for a session is routed by session key AND profile; two
profiles with the same key no longer cross-deliver a sign-in link. The event
payload gets the same redaction as the RPC replies.
- `connection.respond` runs on the long-handler pool: an approval can start MCP
OAuth discovery, which blocked every RPC of the gateway while it ran.
- `connectors.list` rows are a closed snake_case model: `connector`, `enabled`,
`connected`, `connection_status`, `status_reason`, `gateway_disabled_tools`.
The last one is display data: the gateway enforces the rules, the backend
only passes the list on. The phantom `name` and `description` are gone, and
the desktop uses the generated types instead of hand-written copies.
- `tools_listing` (model-only data) no longer rides on `connectors.operation.status`.
- `unavailable` is removed from the target states and settle reasons: nothing
produces it. The contract generator now fails when a contract enum and its
domain enum differ.
- `ConnectorErrorReason` is part of the generated TypeScript and OpenRPC.
- The desktop sends `connection.respond` on the socket that holds the session,
as wake and reissue already did.
- Contract violations are logged every time, at error level.
- An account connect whose prepare step is slow returns the live operation
instead of an error while the operation keeps running.
- The MCP-manifest `connector` field leaves this PR (it moves to a later one
on top of the catalog-reader change). `hermes_cli/mcp_catalog.py` and
`optional-mcps/` are untouched by this PR again.
anti-slop: no net-new findings (15 touched files).
* fix(connectors): the model gets no sign-in link wherever a card exists; side agents cannot connect
The flag that tells the model "a connection card exists" was the session
platform (`== "desktop"`). The Ink TUI and the classic CLI also draw a card,
so there a connector call on an unconnected app handed the model the raw
`connect_url` and told it to pass the link to the user.
- The agent turn now declares how a link can reach the user
(`tools/connectors/turn.py`): CARD when the agent was built with a
connection callback, SIDE for a subagent or a background turn, LINK for a
headless run (`-q`, cron, ACP, api_server, messaging). It is set once per
tool batch in the agent loop and read by the connector dispatch path, which
never sees the agent. The session platform decides return-to-app only.
- CARD: the result carries `connect_card_available` and our hint, never the
link and never the gateway's own hint.
- SIDE: subagents (`delegate_tool`), gateway background turns and the classic
CLI `/bg` are built with `side_agent=True`. They hold no `manage_connections`
tool on any path that derives the tool list, and a connector call on an
unconnected app gets no link, only "report this to the main agent".
- LINK is unchanged.
- The hosted path with no card builds a detached operation, as the MCP path
does, so no `connection.update` is emitted for an operation no client asked
for. Names and docstrings that said "off desktop" now say "no card".
- A settled card is dead on the desktop: `reissueConnectionTarget` and
`respondToConnectionRequest` share one guard and send nothing for a settled
or unknown operation.
- The model-facing settled result no longer carries `connection_id`; the model
repeated it to the user.
Shown on the real clients with a real model (rig, fake tool gateway): Ink TUI
and classic CLI get `connect_card_available` and no link, the model opens the
card, the account connects, the retried call succeeds; `-q` still gets the
link; a subagent and a background turn have no `manage_connections` and get
the no-link hint; on the desktop a card settled with Continue has no enabled
control and sends no RPC.
* feat(tools): every call made through tool_search + tool_call shows a real label on all three clients
A bridged call showed as a generic `tool_call` row in the Ink TUI and as
`⚡ tool_call` in the classic CLI, because the display looked the name up in
the tool registry and bridged names are made at run time. The desktop labelled
only batches that were all hosted connector calls, by parsing names itself.
- `tools/tool_labels.py` is the one place that turns a bridged call into a
label: kind, app, action, emoji and text. Hosted: `connectors__gmail__GMAIL_SEND_EMAIL`
→ "Gmail · send email". MCP: "Linear · list issues". A local deferred tool
keeps its own emoji, verb and primary-argument preview. A batch gets exactly
one label per entry, always; an entry with no name gets a generic label.
- Classic CLI: one row per inner call; the duration on the last row; the
failure text on the row of the call that failed. With friendly labels off
it prints what it printed before.
- Gateway: tool start, progress and complete events and stored transcript rows
carry a typed `labels` field. It does not depend on the classic CLI's
display setting. Clients no longer parse tool names.
- Ink TUI: rows from the labels; the verbose trail keeps Args and Result.
- Desktop: `ConnectorExecution` renders hosted, MCP and mixed turns from the
labels, one row per call. The labels reach the row under a key no tool
argument can use. The connect card it drew under a failed tool result is
gone: after `CONNECTION_REQUIRED` the one way in is the agent's own
`manage_connections` call.
- `tool_search` and `tool_describe` rows read "Searching tools · <query>" and
"Reading tool details · N tools".
Shown on the real desktop (video and screenshots), the Ink TUI and the classic
CLI with the rig: hosted rows, MCP rows, a two-entry batch, a failed entry, a
`CONNECTION_REQUIRED` row with no card under it, labels after a reload, and the
desktop rows with the classic CLI setting off.
* fix(connectors): the model can tell "hosted tools unavailable" from "no such tool"; manage_connections routes MCP names correctly
- A failed hosted search or describe used to return nothing, by design, so the
model saw only local tools and told the user that a connected app was
missing. The local results are unchanged; when the hosted leg failed, the
`tool_search` and `tool_describe` results carry
`connectors: {status: "unavailable", reason: "unreachable" | "sign_in_expired"}`
and one hint line. A rejected token is `sign_in_expired`; an entitlement
refusal or a shut gate adds nothing. `tool_describe` no longer lists those
names under `not_found` next to "search again".
- NS-932. The description now says which side a name belongs to: a bare name
is a hosted connector account; `mcp: true` only when the user asks for an MCP
server, a local server or an install, or when the name exists only in the
catalog; connect and reconnect are hosted verbs, install, enable and
authorize are MCP verbs. It names the three clients that draw a card.
- A misrouted target is refused with the call that works. Only when the
gateway does not know the connector (confirmed on that failure path) and the
name is a catalog entry does the target fail with "X is a local MCP server.
Call manage_connections with action install ...". It is a per-target
outcome: other targets of the same call keep their links and their card. A
vendor failure on a name both sides know stays an ordinary failed row. The
MCP side mirrors it, and never for an entry that is only not installed.
- "Do not re-ask after a skip or a timeout" no longer stops the model when the
USER asks for that app again; the description and the settled-result notes
say so. A builder saw the model refuse a direct user request.
Shown on the Ink TUI and the classic CLI with a real model: a dead gateway and
a 401; "connect fxmail" goes hosted; "install the fx-noauth MCP server" goes
MCP; "connect fx-noauth" reaches the MCP install card in one corrective round
with no hosted mint; a two-target call where one is misrouted still connects
the other with exactly one mint.
* fix(tui): the connection card answers every key, shows what is happening, and is dead once settled
Reproduced on the real Ink TUI with the rig, then fixed:
- The keyboard was dead during the sign-in wait: the card kept a `submitting`
flag that the normal OAuth path never cleared, and Esc went through the same
guard. The in-flight state now belongs to the answered row and clears when
that row moves, when any later frame of the operation arrives, or after
five seconds. Esc skips the row in every phase; Ctrl+C interrupts the turn
(the input handler had no branch for this overlay); Shift+arrows scroll the
transcript and the card ignores them; arrow keys no longer move the text
cursor and the field focus at once.
- The card was lost at turn idle: the overlay flag was cleared while the
operation stayed in the store, and a resume dropped the pending card. The
flag survives idle, a resume shows the pending card again, a session switch
clears it.
- States with no branch: `not_connected` and a row with no link fell into the
credential form; `expired` vanished with no note. The title and the row text
now name the action (connect, reconnect, install, enable, authorize); a
failed or expired row with no fields offers Try again / Skip; a failed row
WITH fields reopens the form over the typed draft, with the failure above it.
- A settled card is dead: at settle the overlay closes and one transcript line
per app states the outcome. A settled or dismissed operation id is
remembered, so no replay or resume can reopen its card. Esc in the last
"Finishing…" moment hides the card and still writes the outcome lines.
- A failed `connection.respond` and a browser that did not open are shown on
the card in one sentence.
Also: `tui_gateway/connector_payload.py` redacted the BOOLEAN `secret` flag of
a credential field to the string "[REDACTED]". On the desktop every credential
field therefore rendered as a password and lost its prefilled default. A
boolean is no longer redacted.
* chore(connectors): remove the comments and docstrings this branch added
Deletions only. Kept: tool directives (`# noqa`, `// eslint-disable`, ...),
`// SAFETY:` lines, and the docstrings of the contract models under
`tui_gateway/contracts/`, which become the descriptions in the generated
OpenRPC and TypeScript.
Checked that no code changed: every Python file has the same AST as before
once docstrings and `pass` are ignored (62 files), and every TypeScript file
prints the same with comments stripped by the TypeScript printer (32 files).
The generated contract files are unchanged.
* fix(connectors): a card restored after a reload answers again; every account RPC names auth and org failures
Found by the end-to-end runs on the pushed head.
- Desktop: after a window reload, Continue on the restored card sent nothing.
The answer looked up the backend that holds the session with the runtime
session id, the lookup wants the stored id, and a failed lookup returned
silently. When the lookup gives no owner the answer now goes out on the
window's active socket, which is what main does.
- `connectors.policy.get` answered `POLICY_UNAVAILABLE` for a rejected sign-in,
a refused scope, a non-member and a missing organisation alike: the handler
runs with the gateway's globals and did not import the reason enum, so its
own error mapping raised. `connectors.accounts.remove` caught auth failures
in its generic branch. `org_required` was mapped on `policy.set` only. All
six account RPCs now answer `NEEDS_NOUS_AUTH`, `FORBIDDEN_SCOPE`,
`ORG_ACCESS_DENIED` and `ORG_REQUIRED` for those four upstream answers.
