Squash of the 54 commits on victor-kyriazakos:feat/user-channel-warning-suppression
(PR #112302, head f45c640e55) so the contributor's authorship survives a rebase-merge;
the commits interleave with a cron delivery-ledger rework that the salvage removes in
follow-up commits, so per-commit cherry-picks were not practical.
Adds display.suppress_warning_notifications (global + per-platform, default false):
one resolver (gateway/warning_notifications.py), BasePlatformAdapter.emit_warning /
emit_media_warning / warning_text, a notification_category classification carried
through wakes, queues and persistence, and render/present boundaries for CLI/TUI.
A long-lived serve process keeps a deleted profile as the context home of threads
that outlive the delete. A bare `mkdir(parents=True)` right before an atomic write
brings `profiles/<name>/` back after `hermes profile delete` has written the
tombstone and removed the tree.
The writers in `utils` and the seven callers named in #112592 are guarded by the
preceding commits; this one applies the same `mkdir_under_hermes_home` idiom to the
other pre-write directory creations found by the same mechanical rule (auth,
personality, plugin catalog, skills sync, tool discovery cache, platform adapters,
memory plugins, local runtime supervisor, process identity, breadcrumbs). The two
sites that pass `mode=` keep their mkdir behind `assert_named_profile_home_live`.
The guard is a no-op unless the target has a provable `profiles/<name>` ancestor.
Salvaged from #112596 (30-file sweep) on top of #112594 / #112601; the overlapping
files were resolved to the already-landed versions.
The profile scope (HERMES_HOME override, secret scope, terminal policy) is a
contextvar bundle bound per turn. A bare threading.Thread / Timer / gRPC
callback starts with an empty context and resolves the LAUNCH profile:
- agent/title_generator.py: the auto-title thread read
auxiliary.title_generation (model, language, provider key) from the default
profile's config and billed the default's key for a secondary's session.
Spawn via agent.memory_provider.spawn_context_thread (copy_context).
- tui_gateway/session_lifecycle.py: every teardown caller is a bare Timer
(ws-orphan reap), the idle-reaper thread, atexit _shutdown_sessions, the
session.close pool RPC, superseded_by_resume or compute_host flush - none
carries a scope, yet on_session_end / commit_memory_session / agent.close ->
shutdown_memory_provider read the provider's config + credentials at call
time. Under multiplex they failed closed (tail never committed, #110622
class); on the Desktop backend a secondary's transcript went to the launch
profile's memory tenant. _finalize_session and _teardown_session now bind
_session_profile_runtime_scope(session) around those blocks, which covers
every spawn site through the single chokepoint.
- plugins/platforms/google_chat/adapter.py: Pub/Sub callbacks run on the gRPC
SubscriberClient's threads and run_coroutine_threadsafe copies THAT empty
context onto the loop task, so _dispatch_message and everything under it
(attachment cache, per-user OAuth token store via _acquire_user_chat_api ->
_load_per_user_chat_api, TTS keys, delivery ledger, bot-id cache) resolved
the launch profile. connect() captures its scope; _on_pubsub_message and
_submit_on_loop run under a per-callback copy of it.
spawn_context_thread gains a kwargs passthrough for the title thread's
callbacks.
Swallowing FeatureUnavailable returned a bare False, so a hosted operator
saw the same generic "requirements not met / run hermes setup" line the
original report started with. The registry's _probe already logs a raised
exception with its message, so propagating the error is what puts
"target not writable" / "quarantine 404" in gateway.log.
Hosted/Docker images lock /opt/hermes/.venv, so --install-deps writing
site-packages fails with Permission denied and the adapter never starts.
Route Google Chat through lazy_deps (HERMES_LAZY_INSTALL_TARGET) and bake
the extra into the published image so a configured gateway can connect.
Scoped secrets — `gateway.platforms._shared.get_scoped_secret` is the single implementation of
the "scope authoritative, unscoped default-profile falls back to os.environ" read:
- plugins/platforms/buzz/adapter.py::_get_scoped_secret (113 LOC, ~100 of which were one
docstring paragraph pasted 16x) -> 3-line forwarder over the canonical with
`external_fallback=True`. Its one genuine extra rung (one-shot profile-scope build so a
Bitwarden-managed key is visible to the startup gate, #95216) moves into `_shared` as that
keyword plus `_unscoped_profile_secrets`.
- weixin::_wx_secret, matrix::_startup_env_secret, the inline try/except copies in slack
(SLACK_APP_TOKEN) and telegram (TELEGRAM_WEBHOOK_SECRET/_URL) -> canonical.
- The "extra-first, then scoped env" reader written 11x under 6 names (weixin._extra_or_env,
bluebubbles/ntfy/photon/wecom `_setting`, dingtalk `_extra_get`, mattermost `_extra_or_env`,
slack `_extra_or_env_flag/_channel_set`, feishu closures) -> `_shared.extra_or_secret`.
- `authz_mixin._platform_gate_env` -> `_shared.platform_gate_env`; discord/telegram drop their
`_scoped_gate_env` twins; run.py / run_config_loaders.py / slack import it directly.
Boilerplate — three table-driven helpers in `_shared` replace the pasted docs template:
- `seed_extra_from_env(spec, home_env=)` replaces 8 `_env_enablement` bodies (buzz, google_chat,
irc, line, ntfy, photon, simplex, teams; raft is a one-liner and untouched).
- `apply_yaml_bridge(cfg, spec)` replaces 7 `_apply_yaml_config` bodies (buzz, dingtalk, feishu,
matrix, mattermost, slack, whatsapp); discord/telegram keep bespoke bridges (alias keys,
nested `platforms.*.extra`, generic-key exclusions). buzz and mattermost previously bypassed
`yaml_env_setter` with hand-rolled `os.environ` writes.
- `env_is_connected(*vars)` replaces 5 identical `_is_connected` (discord, homeassistant,
mattermost, slack, sms).
- 8 identity `_build_adapter` wrappers deleted; `adapter_factory=<Class>`.
Behavior change:
- buzz `_apply_yaml_config` returned None, so under multiplex a secondary Buzz profile got
neither env (correctly skipped) nor `extra` for relay_url/channels/allow_all_users/...; it now
seeds `extra` like every other hook. It also wrote reply_in_thread/reply_to_mode to the process
env even inside a secondary profile's scope (first-writer-wins leak, #80099 class); it no longer
does. BUZZ_POLL_INTERVAL is bridged through the same table.
- `home_channel.name` default when `<X>_HOME_CHANNEL_NAME` is unset is now the literal "Home" for
all plugins (irc/ntfy/buzz used the chat id; simplex/teams/photon/google_chat already used
"Home", as do the built-in platforms in gateway/config_env.py).
- weixin's non-secret tunables (send_chunk_*, rate_limit_circuit_*) now read through the scoped
reader instead of raw os.getenv — a secondary profile no longer inherits the default's values.
- `extra_or_secret` treats a blank string in extra as unset (falls to env) and an explicit False
as a real value, the strictest of the merged copies.
- slack `reaction_trigger_target` bridges via str(); `reaction_triggers` comma-joins any list-ish
value (was list/tuple/set only) — same env text for every real YAML shape.
Docs: website/docs/developer-guide/adding-platform-adapters.md (the template the copies were
pasted from) and gateway/platforms/ADDING_A_PLATFORM.md now show the helpers and the scoped
reader; gateway/AGENTS.md points at the one implementation.
Tests: tests/gateway/test_shared_platform_boilerplate.py — every plugin `_env_enablement`
reads only through the scoped getter (parametrized over the 8 plugins, spy on the seam, raw
`os.getenv`/`get_env_value` asserted untouched); buzz bridge seeds `extra` for a secondary
profile and still bridges env for the default; one home-name rule; extra_or_secret contract;
external_fallback rung. Existing tests repointed: tests/agent/test_secret_scope_tier1_migration.py,
tests/plugins/platforms/buzz/test_buzz_unscoped_requirement_gate.py.
Fourteen platform plugins hand-rolled the "already configured? Reconfigure? [y/N]"
gate at the top of interactive_setup (env check + info line + prompt_yes_no(..., False)),
with drifting wording ("X: already configured" vs "X is already configured." vs
"already enabled") and, for LINE and SimpleX, raw input() loops with their own
EOF/KeyboardInterrupt handling and no gate at all. Fixes to the gate (non-interactive
handling, wording, default) therefore reached only the core Telegram/BlueBubbles/webhook
wizards.
- hermes_cli/setup_platforms.py: `_declines_reconfigure` becomes the public
`declines_reconfigure(label, question, *env_vars)` (any-of env check, so Matrix's
token-or-password gate fits); `_save_prompted` becomes `save_prompted` alongside it.
No alias kept; the three core callers are updated.
- buzz, dingtalk, discord, feishu, google_chat, irc, matrix, mattermost, raft, slack,
teams, wecom: the hand-rolled gate is replaced by one `declines_reconfigure(...)` call;
post-decline extras (Discord allowlist nudge, Slack manifest refresh, Raft "Keeping"
line) stay local and unchanged.
- line, simplex: the raw input() loops move onto hermes_cli.cli_output.prompt (masked
for secrets, "" on Ctrl-C/EOF) and gain the shared gate on their primary env var.
Behavior change: the gate's info line is now uniformly "<Label>: already configured"
(DingTalk/Feishu/WeCom lose the trailing period + inline ID; Buzz/IRC/Google Chat/Raft/
Teams no longer echo the current value in that line). Feishu and WeCom now gate on the
app/bot ID alone instead of ID AND secret. LINE and SimpleX gain a "Reconfigure?" [y/N]
prompt when already configured; their prompts now honour HERMES_NONINTERACTIVE and print
via the CLI helpers instead of bare print(). Prompt defaults (No) are unchanged everywhere.
Not touched: WhatsApp's gate keys on WHATSAPP_ENABLED being truthy (a "false" value must
not count as configured), which the shared any-set gate cannot express — left hand-rolled.
Test: tests/plugins/platforms/test_interactive_setup_reconfigure_gate.py parametrized over
the 14 wizards — with the primary env var set and the user declining, each wizard must have
called declines_reconfigure with that var and returned without prompting or saving.
Sabotage: reverting mattermost's gate fails that row.
20 `plugins/platforms/*/adapter.py::_standalone_send` paths (the out-of-process cron /
send_message delivery) built `{"error": f"... {e}"}` by hand — 83 literals. The exception text
of an httpx/aiohttp failure can carry the Authorization header, a signed URL or a response body
with the token in it, and that string became the tool result the model reads. Only sms went
through the redacting `tools.send_message_senders._error`; discord kept a private regex that
only knew `Authorization: Bot`.
`gateway.platforms._shared.send_error(message)` wraps that helper (agent.redact +
URL-secret scrub) and every standalone literal now goes through it, including the three
envelopes that carry extra keys (discord warnings, photon error_class/retryable, whatsapp's
`(None, err)` tuple). The sms and discord local wrappers are deleted. Telegram already
delegated to the core sender and is untouched.
Behavior change (security): vendor exception text in standalone-send failures is redacted
before reaching the model.
Four bundled plugins wrapped get_hermes_home() in a try/except that fell back
to ~/.hermes on ImportError (a2a/protocol._hermes_home, photon/auth
._auth_json_path, google_chat adapter inline, openviking done in the previous
commit). A bundled plugin cannot lose hermes_constants -- each already imports
gateway.* / agent.* from the same tree -- so the fallback was dead code that
was also wrong on Windows (%LOCALAPPDATA%/hermes) and under a profile override.
telegram's gmail-triage verb path used Path.home()/".hermes" outright, ignoring
profiles. mem0/_oss_providers baked os.path.expanduser("~/.hermes/mem0_qdrant")
into VECTOR_PROVIDERS at import time, so the Qdrant default landed in the
user's ~/.hermes for every profile; the default is now a lazy callable resolved
by vector_default_config(provider_id) at setup time. a2a/security.py only
changes its import (it borrowed protocol._hermes_home).
Behavior change: on Windows and under profiles these paths now follow the
active HERMES_HOME (they were previously anchored to ~/.hermes in the impossible
fallback / at import time); the default-profile POSIX layout is unchanged.
Test: tests/plugins/test_plugin_paths_follow_profile.py asserts each resolver
(a2a conversations, photon auth.json, mem0 qdrant default, openviking log)
lands inside a HERMES_HOME ContextVar override; sabotage red for the mem0
import-time constant and the photon ~/.hermes fallback.
Same bug class as the Slack/Feishu picks: buzz, dingtalk, email, google_chat,
line, ntfy, photon, sms, teams, wecom and whatsapp already had the platform
message id on the MessageEvent but built the SessionSource without it, so
source.message_id consumers (reply anchor in run.py, /sethome synthetic-thread
check, relay _event_ids fallback, shutdown notice anchor) saw None. Only sites
where the id variable was already in scope are widened.
Breaks the two import cycles that forced Protocol stand-ins in the F821 sweep, so the two
sites now name the real types.
gateway/platforms/event.py (new leaf): MessageType, ProcessingOutcome, MessageEvent moved
out of base.py verbatim. Their only dependency is gateway.session.SessionSource; base.py
imported helpers.py at module level, so helpers could not name MessageEvent. Now
TextBatchAggregator is typed by the real MessageEvent. 249 importers repointed
(`from gateway.platforms.base import` -> `.event`, preserving each import's layout);
gateway.platforms.__init__ re-exports from .event. The three revert-scheduled PLUGIN-COMPAT
pointers that named these symbols (gateway.slash_commands → MessageType, dingtalk → MessageType,
photon → ProcessingOutcome) and their COMPAT_MANIFEST rows now target gateway.platforms.event.
Docs updated: ADDING_A_PLATFORM.md, adding-platform-adapters.md (en + zh-Hans).
tools/mcp_tool_sampling.py: ElicitationHandler no longer holds a back-reference to its
MCPServerTask (mcp_tool imports sampling, so the task type cannot be named there). It only
ever read owner._pending_call_context, so it takes `call_context: Callable[[], Context | None]`
and MCPServerTask passes `lambda: self._pending_call_context`. The consent call is one
`functools.partial`, run directly or inside the captured Context.
ty on the 11 touched production files vs origin/main: 0 new diagnostics, 14 resolved.
(The one `source: SessionSource = None` diagnostic moves with the class; typing it Optional
exposes ~60 unguarded call sites — separate follow-up.)
Tests: tests/gateway + tests/plugins + tests/tools + touched files, 18,235 passed; the 31
failures reproduce identically on origin/main (macOS /private/tmp, systemd socket,
long-path fixtures, live-service tests).
Every PLUGIN-COMPAT __getattr__ now calls hermes_cli.plugin_compat.warn_once(facade, name, target) before
resolving, emitting a HermesPluginCompatWarning (FutureWarning) once per process per name: old path, new
path, removal target. Importing a facade for its live API stays silent; only resolving a moved name warns.
COMPAT_MANIFEST.md documents the warning and how to silence it during migration.
Verified the runtime never routes through a pointer: every entry point (run_agent, cli, hermes_cli.main,
gateway.run, tui_gateway.server, web_server, model_tools + tool discovery, hermes_state, cron.scheduler,
browser_tool, mcp_tool, kanban, auth) imports clean and `hermes doctor` runs end to end with the warning
promoted to an error.
Also restores the check_compat_pointers CI step to .github/workflows/lint.yml, which a0be177aac dropped
when the compat layer was regenerated (the lint script itself was present; the workflow step was not).
hermes_cli/plugin_compat.py, tests/test_plugin_compat_warning.py and the two-line insert per facade are
part of the compat layer and go away with it.
The Sep 2026 decomposition (PR #102117) makes internal import paths a non-API: names now live in
the focused modules that define them. This commit is the ONLY thing keeping the old paths alive,
so external plugins have time to update. It is deliberately a single, unsquashed commit:
git revert <this sha>
removes every shim, stub and manifest at once on the announced date. Nothing in-tree may depend on
these pointers: scripts/check_compat_pointers.py (wired into lint.yml) fails CI if it does.
What it adds (see COMPAT_MANIFEST.md, compat_manifest.json):
- 332 facade modules get one delimited `PLUGIN-COMPAT` block appended at the end of the file
- 1,172 moved names resolved lazily via a module `__getattr__` (PEP 562) — never a top-level import,
so no import cycles; facades that already had `__getattr__` get a chained one
- 592 third-party/stdlib names the old modules used to expose, with their original import statements
- 266 public definitions that had been deleted as unused, restored byte-for-byte from the pre-decomposition
tree (+40 private helpers and 16 imports pulled in only because a restored definition needs them)
- 3 deleted modules recreated as re-export stubs (gateway/startup_watchdog, hermes_cli/observability/
relay_runtime, tools/environments/modal_utils)
- private names (`_x`) get no pointer: they were never API (3,792 skipped)
Verified: all 335 touched modules import under a fresh HERMES_HOME and every manifest name resolves;
the lint reports zero in-tree uses; ruff clean; targeted suites unchanged.
dingtalk: drop DINGTALK_TYPE_MAPPING/EXT_MAP re-exports. google_chat: card_spec_to_cards_v2 test -> .cards.
matrix: drop module-level MAX_MESSAGE_LENGTH alias (no importers). teams: drop TeamsSummaryWriter re-export
(teams_pipeline/runtime + tests -> summary_writer). wecom: drop WeComStreamExpiredError/STREAM_EXPIRED_ERRCODE/
MAX_INTERMEDIATE_FRAMES re-exports (tests -> .streaming). parallel: drop _get_parallel_client/_get_async_parallel_client
aliases (tests -> _get_sync_client). email: drop stale 'alias' comment (_esecret_int is the only name).
photon: re-remove credential_summary() (shim-only, cb9b7c36f3); its no-leak test now drives print_credential_summary.
For each issue anchor present in BASE 63279301bc non-test .py and absent on HEAD, the BASE comment/docstring block was re-attached at the HEAD location of the code it explained (matched by the distinctive code line / enclosing def). Sentences already covered by an existing HEAD comment were deduped; the issue number always survives. Insert-only: no code lines changed.
Route every GOOGLE_CHAT_* / GOOGLE_APPLICATION_CREDENTIALS read through a
module-local `_get_scoped_secret` (scope-authoritative under multiplex,
os.environ fallback only for the unscoped default-profile constructor, so
startup/reconnect never hits UnscopedSecretError — #70652 class). Snapshot
Pub/Sub callback knobs on the instance while the scope is still installed,
and seed them into `extra` from `_env_enablement`.
When a scoped profile has no service-account setting, do NOT fall through
to google.auth.default(): ADC reads the process env directly and would
authenticate the profile as another profile's SA. Fail closed with an
explicit error (adapter and standalone send).
Also resolve the bot-id cache path at call time via get_hermes_home() so
profiles don't share one identity cache.
Fixes#73439.
Salvaged from #73445 (Jony) with the ADC guard from #57674 (Ray, first submitter).

Every gateway/plugin platform adapter hard-coded aiohttp.ClientSession(trust_env=True)
(~20 sites), so a gateway launched by a Windows Scheduled Task that inherits a stale
HTTP_PROXY (Clash/V2Ray on 127.0.0.1:7890) looped on 'Cannot connect to host' with no
way to opt out short of NO_PROXY hacks per vendor host.
- gateway/platforms/base.py: gateway_trust_env() reads gateway.trust_env (default true);
resolve_proxy_url() skips generic HTTP(S)_PROXY/ALL_PROXY + macOS system-proxy
auto-detect when false (explicit per-platform vars still win).
- All aiohttp ClientSession sites in weixin, qqbot, matrix, line, wecom, slack, sms,
teams, google_chat now pass trust_env=gateway_trust_env(); mattermost + homeassistant
bare sessions gain the same kwarg (intent of #70119 / #56229).
- DEFAULT_CONFIG + cli-config.yaml.example + messaging docs.
- tests/gateway/test_gateway_trust_env.py: config flip + no-bare-literal sweep.

ctx.register_platform_handler(platform, factory) — the generic surface for
plugins to wire native handlers into any platform adapter at connect()
time. Factories receive (native, adapter): the platform's client/app
object (PTB Application, discord.py Bot, slack_bolt AsyncApp, Teams App,
DingTalkStreamClient, aiohttp web.Application) or None for adapters with
no separate native object.
- BasePlatformAdapter._wire_plugin_handlers(native): shared, isolated
invocation helper — a raising plugin cannot block a platform connect.
- All 27 connectable adapters call it: telegram/slack/teams/line/
api_server/msgraph_webhook wire before their dispatch tables freeze;
the rest hook at connect success.
- register_telegram_handler and get_telegram_handler_factories retained
as thin back-compat aliases over the telegram bucket.
- Source-invariant test guarantees every adapter with connect() keeps
calling the hook.
_resolve_thread_id() falls back to _last_inbound_thread[chat_id] when no
explicit thread is present. That fallback exists for interactive DMs, where
Google Chat spawns a fresh thread per top-level user message and the adapter
drops thread_id to keep the session key stable. It also fired for cron
deliveries, which carry job_id in their metadata but no thread: the output
landed as a reply inside the last inbound thread instead of starting a new
top-level message.
Bypass the _last_inbound_thread fallback when metadata has a job_id (i.e. the
message is an automated cron delivery), so cron output posts at top level
unless an explicit thread is requested.
Google API and authentication packages permit vulnerable httplib2 and pyasn1
transitives, while the Workspace and Google Chat runtime installers previously
treated any importable version as sufficient. Existing environments could
therefore remain vulnerable after the project dependency pins were repaired.
Carry the fixed versions through the Google and Vertex extras, lazy feature
requirements, lockfile, and both runtime installers. Route the documented
Google Chat installation path through its maintained secure requirements
instead of an unconstrained direct pip command.
Detect stale distributions, install only unsatisfied requirements, and verify
the result before continuing. Behavioral tests cover those repair invariants
without freezing manifests, lockfiles, or complete package sets.

Follow-up to the salvaged #38985: guard the 4 bare read_text/write_text
sites its allowlist missed (google_chat thread-count store + oauth JSON)
and add whatsapp/google_chat to the AST guard test's file list.
Follow-up hardening on top of the C14 cherry-picks (#57860/#44026/#66742/#60009):
- Slack file downloads (_download_slack_file/_download_slack_file_bytes)
now require an https URL on a Slack CDN host (files.slack.com,
*.slack.com Enterprise Grid, *.slack-files.com legacy shares) before
attaching the bot token. url_private/url_private_download only ever
point at the Slack CDN, so a forged file object from a malicious
workspace app or compromised event stream pointing the Bearer-token
download at an arbitrary PUBLIC host (token exfiltration) is now
refused — a hole #44026's generic private-IP SSRF check alone could
not close.
- The same two download paths now use create_ssrf_safe_async_client
(from #57860) so the preflight-validated hostname is resolved once,
validated, and dialed by IP — closing the DNS-rebinding TOCTOU window
for the token-bearing inbound fetches as well.
- #60009's slack_tokens.json permission warning is generalized into
utils.warn_if_credential_file_broadly_readable() (POSIX-only,
fail-quiet) and wired into the other read path with the same gap:
google_chat's load_user_credentials(). google_chat already writes
0o600 via _write_private_json; the read-time warning covers
hand-provisioned/legacy files. Nothing in-repo writes
slack_tokens.json (user/OAuth-provisioned), so there is no write
path to chmod for Slack.
Security tests both directions: non-CDN/lookalike/http URLs and
connect-time DNS rebinds are blocked before any TCP connect; real
files.slack.com, Enterprise Grid, and slack-files.com URLs still reach
the network layer; 0o600 files stay silent while 0o644/0o640 warn with
a chmod hint. A/B: all 10 new download-guard tests fail with the
hardening reverted and pass with it applied.
Removes Homebrew and PyPI wheel/sdist as Hermes distribution paths while
preserving the supported source, Docker, and Nix workflows.
Changes:
- Removes the Homebrew formula, PyPI publish workflow, sdist manifest
(MANIFEST.in), and wheel/sdist release-attachment logic from scripts/release.py.
- Keeps setuptools metadata and entry points required by editable installs
and Docker/Nix builds, but adds a setup.py guard that rejects wheel/sdist
builds outside a sealed Nix derivation (HERMES_NIX_BUILD=1).
- Removes pip/Homebrew install detection, PyPI update checks, the pip
self-update path, the deprecation-banner state, the postinstall subcommand,
wheel data-directory fallbacks in agent/i18n.py and hermes_constants.py,
and the ACP Registry manifest/version-lockstep release logic.
- Adds /nix/store/ path detection so `nix run` / `nix profile install`
installs (which don't set HERMES_MANAGED) are correctly identified as
"nix" rather than falling through to "git"/"unknown".
- Retired install-method values ("pip", "homebrew") in existing
.install_method stamps (both code-scoped and home-scoped) are ignored by
the allowlist reader and fall through to "unknown" instead of resurrecting
a retired enum value.
- Updates Nix packaging to ship bare runtime data (locales, optional-mcps)
through store symlinks and wrapper env vars instead of wheel data-files.
- Removes the ACP Registry manifest/icon and their version-lockstep tests.
- Deletes or rewrites packaging, pip-update, Homebrew, and ACP Registry
tests; adds parametrized coverage for the packaging build guard covering
BOTH sdist and wheel paths (the guards live in separate cmdclass entries
— a passing sdist test proves nothing about the wheel path).
- Updates installation/platform documentation and related user-facing copy.
- Adjusts the supply-chain scan so deleted install-hook files do not trigger
a finding, while additions or modifications still require the existing
ci-reviewed label gate.
Supported installation paths (unchanged):
- git installer (install.sh)
- Docker
- Nix/NixOS
- editable development installs (uv sync, uv pip install -e ., pip install -e .)
Adds PlatformConfig.typing_status_text for the two platforms that render
text for the working-state line: Slack's assistant.threads.setStatus
status (hardcoded 'is thinking...') and Google Chat's visible marker
message (hardcoded 'Hermes is thinking…'). None keeps each platform's
built-in default; to_dict omits the field when unset so existing configs
serialize unchanged. Plumbing mirrors typing_indicator exactly (typed
field, from_dict extra fallback, shared-key bridge).
Also documents that Slack's status line requires the assistant:write
scope — without it setStatus fails silently and Slack shows its own
generic placeholder, which previously made the behaviour undiagnosable
from config alone.
mark_awaiting_text is the 'Other (type answer)' mode-flip, not a send-time
setup call — invoking it in send_clarify forces the user's next message to
be captured as the clarify response, racing the button-click path and
bypassing the buttons entirely. Telegram calls it only in the 'other'
callback branch; do the same here.
Replace the hand-rolled ensurepip bootstrap (and five other one-off
pip-install code paths) with hermes_cli.tools_config._pip_install, which
prefers the bundled uv (fast, needs no pip in the venv), falls back to
python -m pip, and bootstraps pip via ensurepip only when missing.
Sites unified:
- hermes_cli/setup.py: _install_neutts_deps, _install_kittentts_deps,
modal SDK install, daytona SDK install
- hermes_cli/memory_setup.py: memory-plugin pip deps (previously dead-ended
when uv AND pip binaries were both absent)
- hermes_cli/dingtalk_auth.py: qrcode auto-install (previously invoked
'python -m uv' which is not how uv ships)
- agent/lsp/install.py: --target LSP server installs
- plugins/google_meet/cli.py, plugins/platforms/matrix/adapter.py,
plugins/platforms/google_chat/oauth.py, plugins/memory/honcho/cli.py
Tests updated to assert the ladder behavior (uv-first, pip fallback,
ensurepip bootstrap) instead of the removed bespoke branches.
ruff check --fix --select F541 . on current main. Pure prefix removals;
adjacent-string concatenations keep the f only on interpolating fragments.
No string content or live placeholder altered.
After a prolonged outage the in-process network-error ladder escalates to
fatal and GatewayRunner._platform_reconnect_watcher rebuilds a fresh adapter
that reconnects through the bootstrap path. That path called
start_polling(drop_pending_updates=True), discarding every update Telegram
queued during the outage — all messages sent while the bot was down were
silently lost. The in-process ladder and 409-conflict handler already passed
drop_pending_updates=False; only bootstrap did not distinguish a cold first
boot from a reconnect.
Thread an is_reconnect signal from the watcher through
_connect_adapter_with_timeout into adapter.connect(). The base
BasePlatformAdapter.connect() gains a keyword-only is_reconnect=False so every
adapter inherits a tolerant signature (no per-platform breakage when the
runner forwards the kwarg). Telegram translates is_reconnect into
drop_pending_updates=not is_reconnect on both the polling and webhook bootstrap
calls. Cold boot still drops the stale queue; a watcher reconnect preserves it.
Fixes#46621.

A non-numeric value in env vars like HERMES_STREAM_RETRIES,
HERMES_KANBAN_SPECIFY_MAX_TOKENS, GOOGLE_CHAT_MAX_BYTES, IRC_PORT, etc.
raised ValueError at import/init and crashed startup. Parse them safely,
falling back to the default.
Unified onto the existing utils.env_int(key, default) helper for core/
hermes_cli/tools modules instead of the original PR's three duplicate
local helpers; plugins keep minimal inline guards (no core-utils import).
All existing max()/min()/`or extra.get()` wrappers preserved.

* Revert "fix(gateway): anchor Google Chat OAuth client secret to default Hermes root"
This reverts commit fff0561441.
* Revert "fix(cli): honor global-root active_provider fallback for named profiles"
This reverts commit 3858cf4307.
* docs(google_chat): describe OAuth client secret as profile-scoped, not host-wide
The setup docs, oauth docstring, and the adapter's 'no credentials'
error message all described the Google Chat OAuth client secret as
host-wide shared infrastructure. That contradicts profile isolation:
profiles are separate auth boundaries, so two profiles can point at
different Google OAuth apps / accounts. Reword all three to say the
secret is profile-scoped and each profile registers its own.
