Review findings on #102117 (independent reviewer + itsflownium):
* hermes_cli.kanban_db.connect / connect_closing pointed at hermes_cli.projects_db (different DB, no
board= parameter). The compat generator ranked candidate homes by path proximity when a name is
defined in several modules. Now it requires shape compatibility with the BASE definition (same
literal for constants, superset of parameter names for defs) and prefers the facade's own
<stem>_* sibling. Same class fixed for tools.tts_tool.DEFAULT_XAI_BASE_URL (-> tts_tool_providers),
and 17 constants/defs that had been pointed at same-named strangers (Matrix MAX_MESSAGE_LENGTH ->
Signal's 8000, tts MAX_TEXT_LENGTH -> BlueBubbles', honcho/retaindb/supermemory *_SCHEMA -> another
plugin's schema, ...) are now restored from BASE verbatim instead.
* send_yuanbao_direct (restored-def): body called adapter._outbound.send_direct, which HEAD moved to
the sender; rewritten to adapter._outbound.sender.send_direct.
* COMPAT_MANIFEST.md states the scope explicitly: public top-level names only; private names and
test monkeypatch seams are not preserved.
* scripts/check_subprocess_stdin.py: _splat_carries_stdin looked 30 lines ahead in the file text
and was satisfied by an unrelated later stdin=; it now finds the splatted name's definition via AST
and requires stdin inside that expression/body.
Tests: tests/test_compat_manifest_targets.py (pointer identity vs the facade's sibling; kanban
connect(board=) opens a Kanban DB, not projects.db; both FAIL on the previous layer),
test_subprocess_stdin_guard gains the false-negative probe, and the MoA -Q quiet-output contract
tests are back (tests/agent/test_moa_quiet_reference_output.py) against build_moa_facade.
Gate the POSIX-only and symlink-only tests with the linux_only and
require_symlinks markers. Fix the real cross-platform bugs:
- file_operations: use the translate_path flag, send snippets as base64, and
use sys.executable (the MS Store python3 stub and the list2cmdline
backslash collapse both broke snippets)
- approval: treat backslash as a Windows path separator, not an escape
- registry, browser_registry, secret_sources, plugins: normalize scope-key case
- checkpoint_manager, plugins_cmd: clear read-only bits before delete
- deadline: make MAX_SAFE_TIMEOUT_S fit the Windows limit
- image_routing, acp, cua_backend, daytona: fix Windows and POSIX paths
- hermes_state: match backslash in the retag LIKE clause
- kanban, disk-cleanup: match drive paths and split command arguments
- scripts: emit host separators through as_posix
207 test files are gated or isolated.
Read text files with the encoding utf-8-sig so a BOM at the start of a
file does not cause a Unicode decode error (Windows editors add BOMs).
Reconstructed from ethie/pm commits 48a32b135b + 013219e814 onto the
current upstream/main base: only the utf-8 -> utf-8-sig transforms were
carried (370 exact line pairs across 205 files); pm-rename hunks that
rode in the original commit were left to the pm-store commit, and
utf8sig hunks entangled with content changes ride their owning commit.
Rebuilt on ethie/pm-clean off ac6c8028e0 (upstream/main).
AST-driven pass over every Path.read_text()/write_text() without an
explicit encoding= across non-test code: 71 sites in 34 files
(skills_hub, hermes_cli/main+profiles+service_manager+container_boot,
mem0/hindsight/honcho plugins, achievements dashboard, release/CI
scripts, productivity+comfyui skill helpers, agent/*). Verified zero
positional-encoding collisions before insertion; per-file compile()
check after.
Adds a check-windows-footguns rule flagging bare single-line
read_text/write_text (multi-line forms stay covered by the AST guard
test from #38985). Together with the salvaged contributor commits this
retires the ~169-site bare file-I/O class (#37423's long tail).
Follow-up fixes for salvaged PR #67686 (issue #67639):
1. Windows regression: bare 'import fcntl' at module level in entry.py and
slash_worker.py would crash on Windows (fcntl is POSIX-only). entry.py
explicitly aims to 'import cleanly on Windows'. Extracted all fcntl/socket
logic to tui_gateway/_stdin_recovery.py with try/except import guards.
2. fd leak: socket.fromfd() dups fd 0; s.detach() returned the fd number
without closing it, leaking one fd per recovery call. Changed to s.close()
(safe — fromfd duped the fd, closing won't close stdin).
3. Code duplication: ~80 lines of recovery loop + diagnostic were copy-pasted
between entry.py and slash_worker.py. Extracted to shared
tui_gateway/_stdin_recovery.py (handle_spurious_eof + diagnose_stdin_state).
4. Profile-unsafe path: scanner used Path.home() / '.hermes' / 'plugins' but
canonical plugin discovery uses get_hermes_home() / 'plugins'. With
HERMES_HOME pointing elsewhere, scanner missed the actual plugin dir.
Also gated project plugins behind HERMES_ENABLE_PROJECT_PLUGINS to match
hermes_cli/plugins.py.
5. SO_RCVTIMEO not cleared: recovery only called os.set_blocking(0, True)
but a child that set SO_RCVTIMEO would cause the next readline to time
out and loop. Now clears SO_RCVTIMEO alongside O_NONBLOCK.
The blanket DEVNULL pass muzzled run_oauth_setup_token()'s interactive
'claude setup-token' login, which needs inherited stdin to prompt the
user. Revert that one call and replace the guard's brittle file:line
whitelist with an inline 'noqa: subprocess-stdin' marker that travels
with the code.
scripts/check_subprocess_stdin.py scans agent/, tools/, plugins/, and
tui_gateway/ for subprocess.run() and subprocess.Popen() calls that
don't explicitly set stdin=. Missing stdin= means the child inherits the
parent's fd, which in TUI mode is the JSON-RPC pipe — causing gateway
crashes on stdin EOF.
Exits 0 (pass) or 1 (violations found). Can be run manually or added to
CI. Skips comments, docstring references, and calls that use input= (which
creates its own pipe).
