Change-detectors, tautologies, source-reading tests, redundant duplicates,
mock-echo tests and dead/unrunnable tests. Per-test rationale in the lane
ledger (category + reason for every removal).
The OS lanes are marker-driven: list_os_marked_tests.py picks the files
a lane imports from their platforms() specs and the lane selects with
-m platforms. A test gated with skipif(sys.platform != "win32") is
therefore never imported on the Windows lane and skipped everywhere else
— it runs on no host. skipif(sys.platform == "win32") tests were merely
invisible to the lane bookkeeping, but the rule the tree now follows is
one host marker, never a bare skipif.
Mechanical mapping, semantics preserved: skip-on-Windows → "posix",
skip-off-Windows → "windows", skip-off-Linux → "linux", skip-on-macOS →
"not macos". The former skip reasons stay as trailing comments. A
non-host condition (os.geteuid() == 0) stays a separate skipif beside
the marker, spelled getattr(os, "geteuid", ...) so the decorator still
imports on Windows.
Where the conversion would stack two platforms() marks on one test (the
conftest rejects that at collection) the narrower mark wins:
- test_update_wedged_gateway: the class is already platforms("linux");
its per-test "needs UNIX sockets" marks were redundant and are gone.
- test_process_registry.TestSystemdCgroupIsolation: the class-level
skip-on-Windows moves onto the 11 methods that had no host mark; the
11 platforms("linux") methods keep theirs.
- test_file_ops_single_roundtrip: the two fifo tests drop their
platforms("linux") in favour of the module's "posix" (mkfifo exists on
macOS; both tests already skip when it does not).
- test_linux_desktop_entry / test_gateway_job_teardown_live: duplicate
or wider marks removed.
`named_profile_has_identity` now gates listing/serving/resolution, so a
`profiles/<name>` dir created with a bare mkdir is no longer a profile.
Production always publishes identity files (`create_profile` seeds
config.yaml/.env before the rename), so these fixtures were relying on a
contract that never existed in real installs. Each now writes a minimal
`config.yaml` marker next to the mkdir (config.yaml rather than SOUL.md
or auth.json so tests that own those files stay neutral). Where a file
had a shared fixture/helper it is fixed once.

Contract rewrite (old contract asserted a bare dir IS a profile):
tests/gateway/test_multiplex_session_db_profile_scope.py::
test_profile_home_is_not_memoized_before_the_profile_exists — after the
runtime mkdir the test now asserts `_profile_home_for_key` still returns
None (a bare dir is not a profile) and only resolves once the identity
marker exists; the not-memoized-miss invariant is kept.
ChatGPT Work's Aug 25 2026 release lets scheduled tasks fire from app
events (new Gmail message, Slack activity, GitHub PR feedback) instead
of polling on a cadence. This ports the pattern by composing two
existing Hermes subsystems: a webhook route can now set cron_job to
fire an existing cron job on each inbound event.
- gateway/platforms/webhook.py: cron_job route mode — after the same
HMAC auth / rate limit / filters / script / idempotency as agent
routes, the rendered prompt becomes transient per-run context and the
job fires through execute_job_for_event on a worker thread (202
Accepted immediately). Startup validation rejects cron_job +
deliver_only.
- tools/cronjob_tools.py: execute_job_for_event() — public wrapper over
the shared claimed-run body (_execute_job_now), so event fires share
at-most-once claiming, in-flight dedupe, delivery, and [SILENT]
handling with scheduler and manual runs.
- hermes webhook subscribe --cron-job: creates event-trigger
subscriptions; job ref validated (and canonicalized to the job ID) at
create time.
- Docs: webhooks.md route table + Event-Triggered Cron Jobs section,
cron.md capability list, zh-Hans mirrors.
- Tests: tests/gateway/test_webhook_cron_trigger.py (adapter + unit),
CLI tests in test_webhook_cli.py.
The salvaged flag was spelled --profile, which collides with the global
-p/--profile that hermes_cli.main scans BEFORE argparse: `hermes webhook
subscribe x --profile compta` would switch this CLI process to compta's
HERMES_HOME and write the subscription into compta's webhook_subscriptions.json
— a file the default gateway's webhook adapter never reads — while the route
still lacked the profile key. #109020 special-cased the scanner for the webhook
subcommand; naming the flag --route-profile removes the ambiguity without
touching _scan_profile_flag: -p picks the gateway whose subscriptions file is
written, --route-profile picks which /p/<profile>/ prefix may hit the route.
Docs: cli-commands reference row, multi-profile-gateways webhook section, the
route `profile` field. Builds on #109020 (fangliquanflq). Fixes#109016.
Second, deeper pass over tools/gateway/hermes_cli plus first pass over
the trees wave 1 missed (acp, acp_adapter, skills, computer_use, docker,
dashboard, conformance, monitoring, secret_sources, hermes_state,
providers). Same rubric as wave 1 (AGENTS.md test policy); security,
alternation/caching invariants, issue-number regressions, and E2E kept.
Real test-quality fixes found and rooted out along the way:
- tests/tools/test_command_guards.py made real auxiliary-LLM HTTPS calls
(DEFAULT_CONFIG smart-approval leaked in) — pinned approval
mode=manual via autouse fixture: 17.4s → 0.4s.
- test_model_switch_custom_providers.py / test_user_providers_model_switch.py
silently probed live provider catalogs (~2s/test) — stubbed
cached_provider_model_ids/provider_model_ids/fetch_api_models.
- test_telegram_noise_filter.py: 15-platform copy-paste matrix over
shared gateway.run logic → 3 representative platforms (55s → 3.9s).
- test_gateway_shutdown.py: stop()'s 5s interrupt-deadline loop spun on
MagicMock agents — interrupt.side_effect now clears _running_agents
(22s → 1.0s).
- test_gateway_inactivity_timeout.py poll-harness timings shrunk 3-5x
(24s → 1.1s); test_mcp_stability.py backoff/SIGTERM-grace sleeps
patched (15.4s → 2.5s); test_async_delegation.py negative-drain wait
5s → 0.5s.
- test_telegram_init_deadline.py: loop-block margin restored to 1.0s
with rationale comment — the watchdog-dump assertion needs the loop
blocked well past deadline+grace under parallel load (flaked once in
the 40-worker verification run at a 0.2s margin).
Verification: full hermetic suite via scripts/run_tests.sh —
2,438 files, 21,718 tests passed, 0 failed, 293.9s wall.
Suite totals vs original baseline: 46,820 → 19,757 test functions
(−57.8%), wall 583.5s → 293.9s (−50%), subprocess CPU 13,564s → 11,623s.
Disable address reuse so an existing family-specific listener cannot silently split traffic with the webhook server. Normalize wildcard bind hosts for local CLI URLs and align setup documentation with the dual-stack default.
Remove unused imports (F401) and duplicate/shadowed import
redefinitions (F811) across the codebase using ruff's safe
autofixes. No behavioral changes -- imports only.
- ~1400 safe autofixes applied across 644 files (net -1072 lines)
- __init__.py re-exports preserved (excluded from F401 removal so
public re-export surfaces stay intact)
- Re-exports that are imported or monkeypatched by tests but look
unused in their defining module are kept with explicit # noqa:
F401 (gateway/run.py load_dotenv; run_agent re-exports from
agent.message_sanitization, agent.context_compressor,
agent.retry_utils, agent.prompt_builder, agent.process_bootstrap,
agent.codex_responses_adapter)
- Unsafe F841 (unused-variable) fixes deliberately skipped -- those
can change behavior when the RHS has side effects
- ruff lints remain disabled in pyproject.toml (only PLW1514 is
selected); this is a one-time cleanup, not a config change
Verification:
- python -m compileall: clean
- pytest --collect-only: all 27161 tests collect (zero import errors)
- core entry points import clean (run_agent, model_tools, cli,
toolsets, hermes_state, batch_runner, gateway)
- static scan: every name any test imports directly from an edited
module still resolves
response_store.db (api server) holds conversation history including tool
payloads, prompts, and results. webhook_subscriptions.json holds per-route
HMAC secrets. Under a permissive umask (e.g. 0o022, default on most
distros) both files were created mode 0o644 — readable by other local
users on shared boxes.
- gateway/platforms/api_server.py: ResponseStore tightens itself + WAL/SHM
sidecars to 0o600 after __init__, then trusts the inode. (Original
contributor patch chmod'd after every _commit() — wasteful on a hot
api_server path; chmod-on-create is sufficient since SQLite preserves
mode bits across writes.)
- hermes_cli/webhook.py: _save_subscriptions writes via tempfile.mkstemp
(which itself creates the file with 0o600), chmods the temp before the
atomic rename, and re-asserts 0o600 on the destination so an existing
permissive file from before this fix gets narrowed.
Tests cover (a) creation under permissive umask leaves 0o600 and (b) an
existing 0o644 webhook_subscriptions.json gets narrowed on next save.
Tests guarded with skipif os.name=='nt' since POSIX mode bits don't apply
on Windows.
Salvaged from PR #30917 by @Hinotoi-agent. Reworked the api_server.py
side from chmod-on-every-commit to chmod-on-create.

Adds 'hermes webhook' CLI subcommand and a skill — zero new model tools.
CLI commands (require webhook platform to be enabled):
hermes webhook subscribe <name> [--events, --prompt, --deliver, ...]
hermes webhook list
hermes webhook remove <name>
hermes webhook test <name>
All commands gate on webhook platform being enabled in config. If not
configured, prints setup instructions (gateway setup wizard, manual
config.yaml, or env vars).
The agent uses these via terminal tool, guided by the webhook-subscriptions
skill which documents setup, common patterns (GitHub, Stripe, CI/CD,
monitoring), prompt template syntax, security, and troubleshooting.
Adapter enhancement: webhook.py hot-reloads dynamic subscriptions from
~/.hermes/webhook_subscriptions.json on each incoming request (mtime-gated).
Static config.yaml routes always take precedence.
Docs: updated webhooks.md with Dynamic Subscriptions section, added
hermes webhook to cli-commands.md reference.
No new model tools. No toolset changes.
24 new tests for CLI CRUD, persistence, enabled-gate, and adapter
dynamic route loading.
