pm/lock.json and the Npm/AgentBrowser templates record registry.npmjs.org, and
pinned_source handed that URL straight to the downloader, so ~/.npmrc /
npm_config_registry were ignored and closed networks could not provision npm or
agent-browser. pinned_source now routes public-npm URLs through the configured
registry (npm's own precedence: npm_config_registry, then the user npmrc); the
lock's SHA256 still verifies the bytes and progress keeps the lockfile URL.
npm_dist_tags reads from the same registry.
The E2E cell test_npm_registry_mirror_serves_pm_npm_download drops its gate.

BtbN deletes daily autobuild tags after 14 days and keeps the last build
of each month for two years (util/prunetags.sh). btbn_index took the
newest daily, so every `pm update ffmpeg` wrote a pin that 404s two weeks
later (#125350, #122240). It now skips the current month's tags (still
dailies the next build displaces) and every tag but the last in each
finished month, so the tool only ever pins a retained build.
- 15 `MERGE-CHECK:` conflict-resolution comments removed from prod code (two were
TODOs already done: the utf-8-sig sessions.json read lives in session_persistence,
the pm-aware cron script helpers in scheduler_script).
- 49 imports the branch left unused (ruff F401, none present at the merge base,
none inside PLUGIN-COMPAT blocks). update_cmd's frozen-surface re-exports are
trimmed to the names tests/compat/old_updater_surface.json actually lists under
hermes_cli.update_cmd; the rest resolve through hermes_cli.main.__getattr__.
- tools/environments/local_gitbash_probe.py: nothing imported it once _find_bash
delegated to pm.shell().
- Three try/except wrappers around calls that cannot raise (install_truststore,
get_hermes_home, and a duplicated except clause in supermemory).
martin-riedl's Linux build is compiled without x11grab, so screen capture
on X11 cannot work with the ffmpeg we ship. Verified on the pinned
artifact: the 9.0.1 amd64 binary contains no 'x11grab'/'xcbgrab' symbol at
all, while BtbN's linux64-gpl build carries it.
Linux now resolves through the same BtbN/FFmpeg-Builds stream as Windows
(btbn_index() learned the linux64/linuxarm64 assets; Linux ships .tar.xz
where Windows ships .zip, hence the archive-extension split in the
binary_rel table). macOS keeps martin-riedl and the bionic target keeps
its termux .deb.
Lockfile: both Linux rows repinned to the autobuild tag the Windows rows
already use, so one upstream snapshot covers win+linux. Hashes are from
the real downloads.
Tests: the three fixtures that encoded 'linux -> martin-riedl' now encode
the source split instead.
Keep desktop rollback in staged publication instead of restoring backups
inside a candidate directory that will be discarded.
Use the npm tag endpoint, let the downloader own archive verification,
and ensure CI toolchain roots without repeating dependency verification.
Remove an unused resolver input and replace overlapping tests with
fault-proven lifecycle coverage.
Verified with the scoped Python gate and before-pack tests. Native
Windows/macOS update execution and the full suite were not run.
Run historical updater completion in a fresh interpreter so cached imports
cannot revive retired dependency installers. Share Git and ZIP completion,
carry receipt and recovery state, and preserve child exit status.
Route plugin admission, binary acquisition, desktop launch and build paths
through PM. Replace redundant helpers and tests with real worker, package,
publication and launch checks. Keep the shipped compatibility surface fixed.
Targeted Python and desktop checks pass. Native update journeys and fresh
production image qualification remain pending. This is a checkpoint before
those acceptance runs.
BtbN publishes new FFmpeg builds without changing the version number.
The shared-minor comparison therefore reported stale artifacts as current.
Compare advertised artifact URLs during resolution and hash changed URLs
when applying the update. Keep dry-run checks metadata-only and preserve
pins for targets without an update source, including Termux.
Verification: 41 focused tests passed. The regression exercises real
archive downloads, installation, retained target pins, and a second
update that performs no writes. Native ARM64 FFmpeg also passed a real
16 kHz audio encode after installation.
The resolver combined the locked patch with a newer release tag.
That combination did not name the archive advertised by the release.
Return the complete identity from an exact matching filename instead.
Keep the locked minor and reject free-threaded or mismatched-tag assets.
The URL builder supplies its existing target mapping to the resolver.
Bionic remains a manual source. No version pins change in this commit.
Verified: 47 tests passed. The real package caller reconstructs each
accepted asset name, with negative controls for lookalikes and tag skew.
A fresh upstream metadata snapshot agrees with all six PBS target URLs.
No interpreter artifacts were downloaded or installed.
Keep the retry branch's bounded network policy under installation.
Preserve destination-local atomic publication, partial ownership,
representation checks, aggregate progress and operation-owned pause.
Keep the serial CDN fallback active across subsequent retry attempts.
Retain exact-origin authorization for index reads and safe redirects.
The retry policy does not retry hash, disk or certificate failures.
Verified with canonical native Windows ARM64 tests for both branches,
local-model download consumers, PM core and update resolution.
The commit-build draft remains uncommitted and unchanged.
Keep downloads bound to their remote representation and publish through
atomic destination-local staging. Serialize shared partial ownership.
Keep explicit CA trust scoped to provider probes. Preserve checkpoint
history and edited files, validate all profile inputs before dependency
publication, and separate data removal from installed runtime ownership.
Exclude machine-specific PM state from portable transfers. Keep plugin
files and nested skill tools intact. Preserve native test isolation.
Focused native Windows receipts cover the individual repairs and their
integration. This commit does not claim a full-suite or release build.
A transient HTTP 500 during the range probe aborted bundle staging.
Retry PM-owned requests and body transfers with one bounded policy,
instead of retrying complete installs or stacking caller retry loops.
Keep partial ranges across attempts and interrupt backoff on pause.
Keep the CDN serial fallback active until its source finishes. Do not
retry permanent HTTP errors, certificate failures, bad hashes or disk
errors. Use the same policy for metadata reads and artifact hashing.
Verified: 217 focused tests passed, 1 skipped, and Ruff passed on the
changed Python files. The pinned Windows ARM64 uv archive also survived
an injected HTTP 500 through the PM CLI and its installed binary ran.
The full suite and desktop release build were not run.
pm python node: 3.14.7+20260901 (freshest python-build-standalone 3.14
build) for the 6 desktop targets; the bionic row moves from the third-party
TUR python3.11 deb to the official termux-main python_3.14.6-1 deb (which
lags PBS by one patch — pinned manually, documented). All 7 digests fetched
from the live sources (PBS release API + termux-main Packages index).
pm/packages.py: main_bin_rel python3.14, deb_package python, bionic fetch
constant, latest_versions guards bionic (no PBS build exists).
termux lane: PYTHON_ABI cp311->cp314, python3.11->python3.14 paths,
libpython3.11.so->3.14, TARGET_ENV 3.11.15->3.14.6 AND sys_platform
linux->android (CPython 3.13+ reports 'android', docs-verified) — linux-
gated markers no longer admit the termux target. runtime_libs.json needs no
change: every python 3.14.6-1 Depends is already staged.
CI: python-version/--python 3.11->3.14 across all 11 workflows incl. the
uv lockfile-check lane. Installers derive the minor from the lock already;
fallbacks bumped. Sandbox images nikolaik/python-nodejs:python3.11-nodejs20
-> python3.14-nodejs22 (tag exists). runtime_repair fall-forward cap now
tracks the <3.15 requires-python window. Docs/README python version claims
updated.
Prepare dependency generations before selecting them. Keep shipped tool
bytes separate from writable additions, and store facts beside their entries.
Validate proposed plugin sets before config publication. Restore the previous
config if the facts write fails.
Consolidate duplicate updater, backup, setup, and voice helpers. Repair
launcher selection, dependency consumers, download ownership, update feeds,
and native Windows process and file handling.
Verification: 206 changed/prior-failing Python files reported 4630 passed,
one failed, and 330 skipped. Fix the remaining Hindsight fixture boundary.
The final targeted rerun reported 234 passed and two skipped. The store
review regression batch reported 83 passed and one skipped. Desktop
TypeScript checks, 56 selected Electron tests, 24 release tests, and the
removed-import/compatibility guards passed.
This is an integration checkpoint, not full audit acceptance. The complete
Python suite has not run on this fixed tree. Crash-atomic plugin publication,
generation cleanup, receipt correlation, and packaged lifecycle acceptance
remain open in docs/pm-audit-status.md.
The llama-install.sh installer keeps its own version index on Hugging
Face (ggml-org/install.sh): a `latest` pointer (resolve/latest →
"b10679") plus a per-build tree of prebuilt llama-app binaries. That
pointer IS the installer's updater — the "what should we be on now"
signal, unauthenticated and unrate-limited.
Wire the llama.cpp package family to it:
- llama_app_latest() reads the `latest` pointer (bare build number).
- llama_app_bucket_versions() enumerates the tree API (deduped, sorted
desc). Verified: the HF bucket tree API IGNORES the offset param —
every offset returns the same first page (the oldest ~1000 paths) — so
the tree can only see the OLDEST builds; `latest` is the authoritative
source and callers put it first.
- LlamaCpp.latest_versions(): [latest, *tree] when the bucket answers,
falling back to the GitHub releases tags when it doesn't. Artifacts
still fetch from the llama.cpp GitHub releases (1:1 tag correspondence
— every bucket tag is a GitHub release tag, so a bump always has our
per-target assets); the bucket's CONFIG-coded llama-app binaries are
hardware-probe-derived and not precomputable, so they stay out.
Live: `pm update --check llamacpp-cpu` → 10362 → 10679 via the bucket.
7 new pure tests (monkeypatched fetchers) covering latest parsing,
HF_TOKEN auth, tree dedupe/sort, and the GitHub fallback.
Verified: 143 pm tests pass.
A full `pm update --check` hits every github-sourced package's releases
API at once and burns the unauthenticated 60 req/hr budget, degrading
to per-package `resolve failed`. Honor GH_TOKEN (falls back to
GITHUB_TOKEN) on all GitHub API calls: the releases-index helpers in
pm/update.py and the known_sha256 digest lookup in pm/packages.py.
Authenticated budget is 5000 req/hr.
Verified: header logic unit-checked (Bearer header only when the env var
is set), 12 pm update tests pass.
Each Package subclass now declares how to find its own latest via a
latest_versions(target) hook (empty = no auto source). `hermes pm update`
intersects those candidate lists across every target the package serves,
compares against the lockfile, and re-pins + reinstalls the changed ones.
Version styles (Package.version_style):
- semver (default): one shared version across targets; update = highest
version every relevant target serves (node, uv, gh, ripgrep, git,
cua-driver, llama.cpp, agent-browser, npm).
- minor (ffmpeg): posix martin-riedl and win32 BtbN autobuilds have no
shared release cadence, so the lockfile version label is major.minor
and each target's exact patch lives in ITS artifact urls. An update
moves to the highest major.minor every target serves; within it each
target pins its own newest patch. A patch-only drift inside the shared
minor does not move the label.
Resolvers hit the real upstream indexes (GitHub releases with prefix
strip + version-shape filter that drops sandbox/experimental tags,
nodejs.org index.json, npm dist-tags, martin-riedl root page parse for
per-platform epochs, BtbN autobuild assets, python-build-standalone
filtered to the locked 3.11 line — a major bump is never automatic).
CLI:
- `pm update [names...]` — re-pin + install changed packages, sync venv
- `pm update --check` — dry-run report (exit 1 if updates exist), never
writes the lockfile, store, or venv
- `pm update --target T` — check-only cross-resolution for another target
- `pm update --uv` / `--npm` — also refresh uv.lock + venv / package-lock
chromium + chromium-headless-shell have no resolver (they follow
agent-browser, which pins its own browser pairing); venv is a state
package. Tests are pure (monkeypatched candidate lists) — the index
helpers are network I/O by design.
Verified: 136 pm tests pass; live `pm update --check` resolves node
26.7.0 → 26.8.1, uv 0.12.3 → 0.12.9, ffmpeg up to date, and reports
`no source` for chromium. GitHub unauthenticated rate limits (60/hr)
degrade to an honest per-package `resolve failed`.
