c13ea774e6 refactor: make install-stamp.json the single runtime version identity
Runtime identity resolved through hermes_cli.__version__ (a static 0.0.0
on source installs, rewritten by release stamping) leaked v0.0.0 into
About, /api/health, User-Agents, and plugin compat, and source updates
showed "couldn't reach update server" because identity and channel
authority disagreed with the checkout.

Now: get_version_info() resolves install stamp -> live git -> unknown,
never pyproject metadata, never a package constant. Source checkouts
derive identity from their reachable release tag; the completion tail of
every successful install/update/historical takeover atomically rewrites
install-stamp.json with that identity; a stale source stamp whose commit
no longer matches HEAD defers to live git. ACP/TUI use derived_version
for display and base_version for protocol fields; all ~44 runtime
__version__ consumers migrated; hermes_cli.__version__ and generated
_version.py are gone; release stamping only touches the native manifests
external builders consume (nix/tauri/cargo) and passes release identity
straight into write_install_stamp.py; pyproject.toml stays inert 0.0.0.
Desktop no longer synthesizes a competing install-stamp.json: the
checkout owns its stamp, and desktop-bootstrap classification keys on
the bootstrap-complete marker. verify-bootstrap-version-stamp.py now
cross-checks the checkout's stamp (baseVersion + commit == HEAD).

Validation: 31-file focused suite green (version identity, stamping,
adoption, providers, gateway, acp/tui runtime identity, api server via
extras env, release graph); desktop tsc + 25 vitest green; real-repo
probe: base=unknown derived=git.0635606.dirty source=git on this
checkout; clean-env imports resolve entirely from this tree; windows
footgun + compat-pointer scans clean.

92686159d1 fix(pm): integrate audited runtime and lifecycle repairs
Prepare dependency generations before selecting them. Keep shipped tool
bytes separate from writable additions, and store facts beside their entries.
Validate proposed plugin sets before config publication. Restore the previous
config if the facts write fails.

Consolidate duplicate updater, backup, setup, and voice helpers. Repair
launcher selection, dependency consumers, download ownership, update feeds,
and native Windows process and file handling.

Verification: 206 changed/prior-failing Python files reported 4630 passed,
one failed, and 330 skipped. Fix the remaining Hindsight fixture boundary.
The final targeted rerun reported 234 passed and two skipped. The store
review regression batch reported 83 passed and one skipped. Desktop
TypeScript checks, 56 selected Electron tests, 24 release tests, and the
removed-import/compatibility guards passed.

This is an integration checkpoint, not full audit acceptance. The complete
Python suite has not run on this fixed tree. Crash-atomic plugin publication,
generation cleanup, receipt correlation, and packaged lifecycle acceptance
remain open in docs/pm-audit-status.md.

47f4ab3a17 feat(desktop): bundle, publish, and update the desktop app as MSIX
Wire the desktop app onto the pm store for real distribution:
- MSIX bundle: electron-builder config, appx assets, manifest, copilot
key + deep-link routing, App Installer + Windows Store variant
(sign only the msix; inner binaries covered by the package block map)
- Rust CLI shim (apps/desktop/shim) — bundled builds run from the store
python + shim, never the venv; payload symlinks relativized so the
  relocatable venv survives relocation
- Cloudflare R2 release pipeline: publish binaries + update feeds,
  nightly channels/tags, stamp-first version resolution
- Update system: gate, uninstall steward, boot bootstrap, release
  channels, update receipts
- install.ps1 reduced to a 361-line stage-protocol bootstrapper (heavy
deps are pm's job); darwin updater + update-channel mirror ripped
- doctor: main's re-landed TCC anchor kept, termux branches removed

Rebuilt from ethie/pm onto the pm-store stack. 22 hot files hand-merged;
uv.lock + package-lock.json keep main's newer dep tree; test_engines
reads the pm/lock.json pin; lazy_deps.py deleted (all 222 importers
migrated to pm in the foundation commit).

6b81590c55 test: prune low-value tests suite-wide (wave 1) — 46,820 → 28,106 test functions
Systematic prune per AGENTS.md test policy, one pass over every major
test tree (gateway, hermes_cli, tools, agent, run_agent, plugins, cli,
cron, tui_gateway, honcho/openviking, root-level):

- DELETE: source-reading tests (read_text/getsource on prod files),
change-detector tests (exact catalog counts, model-name snapshots,
config version literals), mock-echo tests (assert a mock returns what
it was told), assertion-free/trivial tests, near-duplicate
parametrizations (boundaries + one representative kept), async/sync
  twin duplicates, cosmetic within-file variations.
- KEEP (mandatory): security/redaction/approval guards, message-role
  alternation invariants, prompt-caching/deterministic-call-id
invariants, issue-number regression tests (deduped), E2E tests.
- 6 test files deleted outright (script-style/no-assert or fully
  redundant); conftest.py, fakes/, fixtures/ untouched.
- tests/acp/conftest.py added: autouse fixture stubs the live
models.dev/GitHub/Copilot/Anthropic inventory fetches that ACP server
  tests performed on every session create — test_server.py 147s → 3.4s,
and the tests are now genuinely hermetic.
- Sleep-based slowness shrunk where safe (codex_ttfb_watchdog,
compression_concurrent_fork, etc.); no wall-clock assertion tightened.

Verification: full hermetic suite via scripts/run_tests.sh —
2439 files, 31,130 tests passed, 0 failed, 0 flaky retries, 315s wall
(baseline: 583s wall, 13,564s subprocess CPU).

9ba4615db2 fix(dump): show commit date instead of release date in hermes debug (#48104)
* feat(mcp): raise default tool-call timeout 120s -> 300s

Port from openai/codex#28234. Long-running MCP tools (web fetches,
sandboxed builds, deep-research servers) routinely exceed 120s, causing
spurious timeout failures. Codex bumped its default MCP tool timeout from
120 to 300 for the same reason.

- _DEFAULT_TOOL_TIMEOUT 120 -> 300 in tools/mcp_tool.py (per-server
  'timeout' config override unchanged)
- update test_default_timeout assertion
- document the default in mcp-config-reference.md

* fix(dump): show commit date instead of release date in hermes dump

The version line in `hermes dump` (the top of the /debug report) appended
the package release date in parentheses, which reads like a wall-clock
"generated at" timestamp and confuses support triage. Replace it with the
date the HEAD commit was actually made, resolved live via
`git log -1 --format=%cd --date=short`, kept next to the commit SHA.

On Docker/wheel installs with no .git the date resolves to '' and the
suffix is simply omitted (the baked SHA still identifies the build).

66489f38c7 fix(docker): bake build-time git SHA into the image
`hermes dump` and the startup banner both call `git rev-parse HEAD` to
report the running commit, but `.dockerignore` line 2 excludes `.git` —
so inside the published image `hermes dump` shows
`version: ... [(unknown)]` and the banner drops its `· upstream <sha>`
suffix entirely. That makes support triage from container bug reports
impossible: we can't tell which commit the user is actually running.

Fix: thread the build-time SHA through as a Docker build-arg, write it
to `/opt/hermes/.hermes_build_sha` in the image, and have a new
`hermes_cli/build_info.get_build_sha()` read it as a fallback after the
existing live-git lookup fails. Output format is unchanged in both
callsites — same 8-char short SHA whether resolved live or baked.

Wiring:
  - Dockerfile: `ARG HERMES_GIT_SHA=` + write-file step after the source
copy. Empty/missing arg → no file written → callers fall through to
live git (so local `docker build` without --build-arg is unchanged).
  - docker-publish.yml: passes `HERMES_GIT_SHA=${{ github.sha }}` on all
    four build-push-action steps (amd64/arm64, smoke-test + final push).
  - dump.py:_get_git_commit() / banner.py:get_git_banner_state(): try
live git first, fall back to baked SHA, then to legacy `(unknown)`
    / None.  Banner returns `upstream == local, ahead=0` because a built
image is by definition pinned to one commit.

Coverage:
  - Unit tests cover build_info (file present/absent/empty/error,
truncation, whitespace), dump (live-git wins, both fallbacks,
identical output-format regression guard), and banner (no-repo +
    baked, no-repo + no-sha, shallow-clone fallback).
  - tests/docker/test_dump_build_sha.py is an integration regression
guard that runs against the real image, reads
    `/opt/hermes/.hermes_build_sha`, and asserts `hermes dump` surfaces
its content (or stays at `(unknown)` if no file).
  - Verified end-to-end: `docker build --build-arg HERMES_GIT_SHA=abc...`
    → `docker run ... dump` reports `[abc12345]`; without the build-arg
    it reports `[(unknown)]` as before.
