* feat(i18n): layered catalogs — plugin packs and user overlay over bundled locales
* feat(tui): i18n layer — en catalog, nanostore runtime, RPC pack loader, _keys.tui.json emitter
ui-tui/src/i18n/: en.ts (facade over topical siblings under en/), types.ts
(Translations + dotted TranslationKey derived from en), runtime.ts ($locale/
$catalog atoms, translateFrom active→en→key, pack merge with string→fn
wrapping for {0}/{1} placeholders), loader.ts (display.language →
i18n.catalog {lang, surface:'tui'}, English when the method is missing),
useT()/useLocale() hooks, t() for non-React code. useConfigSync feeds the
loader from the existing config.get full hydration. `npm run i18n:keys`
writes locales/_keys.tui.json (sorted flat key list) and runs before build.
* feat(plugins): provides_locales manifest field, ctx.register_locale/register_locale_dir, manifest-only language packs
* chore(tui): split en catalog siblings by lane (slash sibling)
* feat(plugins): validate language packs — parse, text-only, key-subset WARN against en / _keys exports
* feat(tui_gateway): i18n.languages / i18n.catalog RPC + regenerated contracts
* feat(config): display.language accepts any supported_languages() id, refuses unknown ids with the list
* docs(i18n): language packs user guide, pluggable display.language, plugin developer section, AGENTS notes
* feat(plugins): report language-pack layers in the mid-run activation summary
* feat(tui): wire status bar, composer placeholders, hotkey help and approval/clarify/confirm prompts through i18n
StatusRule maps compared state values (ready/running…/summoning) to catalog
text at render via displayStatus(); hotkeys()/placeholder() resolve lazily so
a pack that arrives after boot applies. Catalog grows to 81 keys.
* feat(desktop): pluggable app locales — registry, host.i18n.registerAppLocale, backend packs, keys emitter
- Locale widens to string (BundledLocale keeps the union); TRANSLATIONS stays
the bundled record and every consumer resolves through the registry.
- src/i18n/registry.ts: registerAppLocale(id, {endonym, rtl, translations})
layers partial packs (nested or flat dotted) over bundled/en via
mergeTranslations; a string over a function-valued en entry becomes a
positional {0}/{1} formatter; $appLocaleVersion bumps so translators
re-render; per-source disposers + replaceAppLocaleSource for atomic swaps.
- Backend packs: i18n.languages + i18n.catalog {surface:'desktop'} feed the
registry as source 'backend' (method-not-found is silent); re-synced on
socket open, display.language change and profile switch. A saved pack-only
language is promoted once its pack registers.
- SDK: host.i18n.registerAppLocale / languageOptions; ctx.i18n.registerAppLocale
tracked for unload. Docs in the desktop plugin SDK guide + skill reference.
- Language switcher lists bundled ∪ registered ∪ backend, endonym-only; RTL
from the registry (applyDocumentLocale takes rtl).
- npm run i18n:keys emits locales/_keys.desktop.json (wired into build).
* i18n(cli): route /topup + /subscription copy through t() (cli.billing.*, cli.subscription.*)
Module-level copy tables and modal choice tuples in cli_billing_mixin.py froze
English at import, before display.language was known. They are now key tables /
builder functions evaluated at call time; every user-facing line in the /usage
balance block, /subscription and the five /topup screens reads the catalog.
Choice VALUES stay English identifiers. Fragment-assembled status lines
(Plan: … → cancels · $x left · renews …) become full templates.
* i18n(gateway): exec-approval card contract + base/run/run_busy/run_inbound replies through t()
- base_exec_approval: EA_* English constants stay; add ea_header_text()/ea_reason_label_text()/
ea_smart_deny_line_text()/ea_default_reason_text()/ea_action_labels()/approval_timed_out_notice()
accessors; deadline + timed-out notice resolve via gateway.exec_approval.*
- BasePlatformAdapter._EA_HEADER/_EA_REASON_LABEL/_EA_SMART_DENY_LINE/_EA_ACTION_LABELS become
properties (adapters still shadow them with markup class attrs)
- run.py: provider error replies table holds catalog keys; _CONTEXT_OVERFLOW_REPLY -> _context_overflow_reply()
- run_busy/run_inbound: typed approval + slash-confirm matchers accept English ∪ approval.inputs.* (t())
- locales/en.yaml: gateway.exec_approval/busy/errors/... namespaces
* i18n(cli): wire modal, loops, agent-setup mixins through t() (cli.* keys)
* i18n(platforms): route Slack, Matrix and Feishu user-facing text through t()
Exec-approval markup overrides (_EA_HEADER/_EA_REASON_LABEL/_EA_SMART_DENY_LINE/
_EA_ACTION_LABELS) become per-call properties over the shared
gateway.exec_approval.* contract keys, so Slack's 3000-char section budget
measures the resolved template. Slack _APPROVAL_DECISIONS/_CONFIRM_DECISIONS,
Feishu _APPROVAL_LABEL_MAP and Matrix _EA_LEGEND/_EA_TYPED_HINT turn into
key tables resolved at click time; the Matrix typed hints become whole
sentences per offered tier instead of spliced fragments. Slack button labels
are cut to 75 chars and select placeholders to 150 after translation; the
model-facing clarify fallback answer ('choice N') stays English while the
card copy localizes.
locales/en.yaml gains the gateway.exec_approval.* contract keys plus the
platform.shared.* / platform.slack.* / platform.matrix.* / platform.feishu.*
namespaces (and the keys for the other adapters wired in follow-up commits).
* i18n(gateway): run_turn / run_turn_runner / approval-settle copy through t()
- status hints, proxy errors, background task notices, progress heartbeats, session info lines
- tool progress chrome (tool_head/tool_pending/tool_preview/tool_verbose) shared by base.format_tool_event
- run_turn_runner:1406 Chinese clarify placeholder -> gateway.clarify.native_stream_placeholder (zh text kept in zh.yaml)
- _UNEXPECTED_SILENCE_REPLY/_CLARIFY_EXPIRED_NOTICE -> accessor functions
* i18n(platforms): route Google Chat and Teams user-facing text through t()
Google Chat clarify card, typing placeholder, orphan-card labels and the whole
/setup-files reply set (module constants become platform.google_chat.setup_files.*
keys resolved at reply time). The attachment-fallback notice that shipped
hardcoded in Spanish is keyed with an English en value; es.yaml carries the
original Spanish text for those four keys.
Teams approval card header/reason use the gateway.exec_approval.* contract,
_APPROVAL_LABELS becomes a key table resolved at click time, and the meeting
summary writer resolves its section headings/fallbacks per render.
* i18n(platforms): route LINE, WeCom, email, DingTalk, IRC and Home Assistant text through t()
LINE default copy constants become catalog keys resolved in __init__ (the
LINE_*_TEXT / extra.* operator overrides still win); the busy-ack bypass
matcher keys on the leading emoji marker only, so it keeps firing once the
gateway busy heads are localized. WeCom media size/format notices that shipped
hardcoded in Chinese are keyed with English en values and zh.yaml carries the
original Chinese text. DingTalk emotion bubbles resolve per send.
* i18n(cli): route /model switch output and -q status lines through t() (cli.model.*, cli.single_query.*)
Switch-summary labels shared with the gateway reuse gateway.model.* keys
(provider/context/max-output/capabilities/prompt-caching); CLI-only variants
(glyph or no-backtick forms) live under cli.model.*. The hand-padded /model usage
block becomes a (form, description-key) table padded at render time so the
command syntax stays fixed while descriptions translate. -q 'Error:' reuses
gateway.model.error_prefix.
* i18n(cli): route TUI panel/hint/placeholder copy through t() (cli.tui.*)
_APPROVAL_CHOICE_LABELS and _TUI_MODAL_HINTS become key tables resolved at
render time; vault/sudo panel bodies are one catalog value per panel split on
newline; inline plurals use <key>_one/<key>_other. Adds the cli.* namespace
(shared/tui/voice/render/subagents/dock) to locales/en.yaml.
* i18n(cli): voice/wake-word CLI copy through t() (cli.voice.*)
RuntimeError texts raised in _voice_start_recording are human copy (callers
print {e}) and are keyed; the Termux requirement-check match stays English.
Wake state ids stay internal, only their labels localize.
* i18n(cli): live-work dock, subagent monitor and render copy through t()
cli.subagents.* / cli.dock.* / cli.render.*; count fragments pluralize via
_one/_other keys, verdict table holds keys resolved at paint time so width
clipping measures the translated text.
* i18n(gateway): unauthorized/pairing, voice, topics, shutdown, startup, notifications, kanban pings through t()
* i18n(cli): move tips + composer placeholders into the catalog (tips.tNNN / tips.placeholder.pNN)
get_random_tip()/get_random_composer_placeholder() pick a key from the English catalog
(the parity baseline, probed once per process) and resolve it through t() for the active
language, so language packs translate tips like any other string. Also lands the cli.*
en.yaml namespace consumed by the CLI info/help/error-copy wiring in the next commit.
* i18n(cli): wire chat-turn + session mixins through t(); kanban log trimmer matches t() output
* test(cli): assert TUI/dock/voice copy via t(key); prove labels resolve at render time
Pinned-English assertions in the approval-UI, live-work dock and voice tests now
go through the catalog. New test swaps the catalog after import and checks the
approval panel + hint row follow it (the reason _APPROVAL_CHOICE_LABELS and
_TUI_MODAL_HINTS became key tables).
* i18n(cli): route CLI info/help/error copy through t() (cli.* namespace)
cli_info_mixin: /help consumes CommandDef.describe() (added to commands.py: slash.<name>.description
with fallback to .description), section titles/skill/quick-command headers, /tools, /toolsets,
/usage labels, /context, /whoami, /insights, /gateway status, tool-progress labels, bang-shell
denials, MCP config-watch + /reload-mcp confirm/reload lines, /reload-skills, and the session-store
warning all read the catalog at call time (module-level label tables became functions so the
active language is honoured after startup). cli.py: worktree cleanup, tirith warning, show_config
(labels re-padded at print time), quick/plugin/skill slash-command errors, ambiguous-command hint,
stdin error, gateway start, profile warning. cli_chat_error_copy / cli_unknown_command /
cli_output / cli_init_mixin: chat error panel copy, did-you-mean lines, n-more / yes-no prompt
(localized affirmative initial alongside 'y'), unknown-toolsets warning.
* i18n(w1a): wire agent display/explainers/approval + slash registry/help through t()
- hermes_cli/commands.py: CommandDef.describe() resolves slash.<name>.description
at call time; category labels via slash.category.*; help/alias/usage suffixes
via slash.shared.*; gateway_help_lines and commands_platforms/slash_exec use them.
- agent/display.py: display.verb.* resolved at call time via get_tool_verb();
bridge/spinner/thinking-verb/cute-row/failure/preview/diff text via display.*.
- agent/turn_explainers.py: exit-reason / persistence-cause tables become call-time
lookups (explainer.exit.*, explainer.persistence.*, explainer.file_mutation.*).
- agent/background_review.py, session_activity.py, context_breakdown.py,
status_output.py: review summaries, iteration progress, context notices.
- tools/approval.py, approval_context.py: approval.summary.*, approval.noun.*,
approval.window.* pluralized keys.
- gateway/slash_commands*.py: remaining raw strings (busy, whoami, platform,
bundles, memory, skills, approvals, set_home, diff, update, debug, profile,
heartbeat, refine, review, subgoal, loop, retry, compress codex path, save,
sessions, model guard/errors, agents rows, topup, login). HISTORY_UNREADABLE
keeps its English constant; callers use history_unreadable() ->
gateway.shared.history_unreadable.
- locales/en.yaml: new approval/display/explainer/slash blocks + gateway leftovers.
* i18n(telegram): route adapter chat copy through t()
Approval card (header/reason/smart-deny as HTML-escaped properties), inline
button labels, callback toasts (cut at Telegram's 200-char cap), model/choice
pickers, clarify/update/slash-confirm prompts, gmail-triage labels and the
inbound-media failure notice now come from the catalog. _UNAUTHORIZED is a
lazy _unauthorized() so the import no longer binds a language. The command
menu carries a language+payload fingerprint (forum scopes re-register on
change) and BotCommand descriptions are cut at 256.
Adds gateway.exec_approval.* (WAVE2 contract), platform.telegram.*,
platform.discord.* and the slash.*.description keys the Discord table shares
with the CLI registry to locales/en.yaml.
* i18n(gateway/platforms): whatsapp_cloud, yuanbao, weixin, signal, api_server copy through t()
- whatsapp_cloud: clarify list/buttons, approve/deny + slash-confirm labels via platform.whatsapp.* (t()-then-truncate at 20/24/72 caps); _EA_HEADER becomes a property wrapping ea_header_text()
- yuanbao: SLOW_RESPONSE_MESSAGE -> slow_response_message() (platform.yuanbao.slow_response_notice; zh keeps the original text); cron-wrapper markers centralized as module constants for strip_cron_wrapper
- api_server: PROVIDER_AUTH_FAILED_LABEL/PROVIDER_RATE_LIMITED_LABEL stay English for run.py matchers; user_text() renders via t()
- signal/_format_wait, weixin voice caption, openai_routes transformed notice
- run_turn: second _UNEXPECTED_SILENCE_REPLY consumer -> accessor
* i18n(discord): route adapter chat copy through t()
Native slash-command table becomes _NATIVE_SLASH_COMMAND_SPECS holding catalog
keys; _native_slash_commands() resolves descriptions, parameter descriptions
and Choice names for the active language, each cut at Discord's 100-char cap,
and the app-command sync fingerprint now includes get_language() so a
display.language change re-syncs. Exec-approval card (gateway.exec_approval.*
contract), slash-confirm / clarify / update views, model+choice pickers,
thread creation, forum titles, voice acks, the response-truncation notice,
the unauthorized-slash security alert and the media upload-size notices all
read from platform.discord.*. Decorator-declared button labels are relabelled
in __init__ (80-char cap); embed titles cut at 256, select placeholders at
150, option label/description at 100. _UNAUTHORIZED is a lazy _unauthorized().
* i18n(cli): wire status-bar, stream, terminal mixins + terminal_input through t(); rename kwargs that shadow t(key)
* i18n: wire hermes_cli/cli_commands_mixin.py slash-command copy through t()
- 431 new leaves under cli.commands.<cmd>.* in locales/en.yaml; 12 rows reuse
existing gateway.* keys (rollback, diff, resume, branch, btw, model, reasoning)
via a _gt() helper so CLI and gateway replies stay identical.
- Module-level English tables (_BUSY_MODE_*, _REASONING_TOGGLES, _HATCH_PROGRESS,
_DIFF_LABELS, _LOCAL_ENGINE_LINES) become call-time catalog lookups keyed by id.
- Verb tables (Enabling/Disabling, Paused/Resumed/Triggered, planned/done,
Updating/Generating) are one full template per variant; plurals use
<key>_one/<key>_other via _tn(); hand-padded column labels (/snapshot list)
translate the value and re-pad at the call site.
- Multi-line usage blocks are single catalog values split with _lines().
- Model-facing system notes and DB-stored reasons stay English (EXCLUDED).
* tests: assert /handoff, /worktree, /login CLI copy via t(key) instead of pinned English
* test(i18n): pin Telegram/Discord adapter catalog wiring
Lazy unauthorized notice, exec-approval contract keys, HTML escaping before
Telegram <b> wrapping, 200-char toast / 256-char BotCommand caps, Discord
100-char app-command text and 80-char button caps, and language-bearing
command-menu fingerprints on both platforms.

* feat(tui): i18n — wire billing, subscription, connection-setup and journey overlays
Adds en siblings billing.ts / subscription.ts / connection.ts (namespaces
billing, subscription, connection, journey) and routes every user-facing
literal in billingOverlay, subscriptionOverlay, connectionSetupOverlay and
journey through useT()/messages(). Module-level label tables became lazy
(scopeStillDeniedResult(), verbOf(T, action)); auto-reload rows dispatch on
stable ids instead of label text. Regenerates locales/_keys.tui.json.

gatewayMsg, libText) and routes user-facing literals in app/{useMainApp,
useSessionLifecycle,useInputHandlers,turnController,createServerRequestHandler,
setupHandoff,createGatewayEventHandler}.ts, gatewayClient displayed reasons,
lib/*, domain/*, hooks/* through t()/messages(). Status-bar state values that
code compares against, backend-matched strings, log lines, model-bound text,
and machine 'error:' prefixes stay literal. Regenerates locales/_keys.tui.json
(232 keys).

* i18n(af): translate TUI pack
* plugin_guard: locale catalogs in language packs step down the agent-config family
A translated status line such as "Updating AGENTS.md" in locales/<lang>.yaml is UI text the loader
reads as a string leaf; it cannot edit a file. The bundled en.yaml itself tripped agent_config_mod
at critical, making any faithful language pack uninstallable. Injection shapes keep full severity.
* plugin_validate_locales: read key exports with utf-8-sig (Windows footgun lint)
* i18n(relay): route relay adapter prompt copy through t(); drop dead import-bound approval header
Adds platform.relay.* (5 keys) to en and all 16 bundled locales, reusing the sibling platform
translations for the confirm buttons and the Other option.
* ci: fix TUI import order, MDX table pipe, main's overflow-warning wording in all locales; fresh-install fixture carries the i18n kernel
- ui-tui/src/i18n/en.ts: perfectionist/sort-imports (slash before slashCmd)
- docs plugins/index.md: escape the | inside the provides_locales table cell (MDX parsed <id> as JSX)
- display.notice.uncompressed_context_overflow: adopt main's wording (names compression.enabled: false
and /compact) in en + 16 locales; the guardrail test pins that phrase
- tests/scripts/test_fresh_source_install.py: the installer tail now resolves CLI text through
agent.i18n, so the fixture tree carries the i18n kernel + en.yaml (not the agent runtime)
* docs(desktop-plugin-sdk): double-backtick the template-literal example (MDX evaluated ${n})
* test(e2e): display.language is validated against the live language set; exclude it from the arbitrary-string set property
* commands: keep the localized COMMANDS/COMMANDS_BY_CATEGORY module __getattr__ after the compat block removal
* build: never write locales/_keys.*.json from the desktop/TUI builds; regenerate the committed desktop key export
The desktop build regenerated locales/_keys.desktop.json in the checkout, so a
hermes update that rebuilt the app left the tree dirty (Desktop update E2E:
'M locales/_keys.desktop.json'). The key exports are committed artifacts pinned
to en.ts by apps/desktop/scripts/i18n-keys.test.mjs and ui-tui i18n:keys:check;
builds read them, never write them. Regenerated after main's new desktop strings.
* test: unbreak two main-red timing tests the PR merge-ref inherits
- test_local_runtime racing fake publishes the modern state record (legacy pid-only
records are rejected since 65ff3ad353; main has been red on this test since)
- test_run_progress_topics ManyProgressLinesAgent waits for the first bubble instead of
a fixed 0.35s, which a loaded CI runner does not always meet
* chore(i18n): regenerate desktop key catalog for main's new strings (model pricing, copy changelog)
* test(e2e): torture-chamber fd monitor confirms a deleted sidecar is still held before calling it a leak
SQLite's WAL last-close unlinks -shm before closing its descriptor (unixShmUnmap, then
unixShmPurge), so a healthy close shows a (deleted) -shm for microseconds; the 20ms poll
occasionally caught that window on the short-lived opener and failed the episode.
* chore(i18n): regenerate desktop key catalog for main's telemetry/consent strings
* chore(i18n): regenerate desktop key catalog after main sync

* refactor(plugins): remove the Sep 2026 decomposition compat layer on schedule
The PLUGIN-COMPAT layer (2776813df3 + d63e380324 + 0a5164cebe) kept pre-#102117 import paths
alive for external plugins until 2026-09-14. That window closed two weeks ago; since then the loader
has already been skipping plugins that use the old paths. This removes the layer itself:
- 328 appended `PLUGIN-COMPAT` blocks (lazy `__getattr__` pointer tables, re-exported third-party
names, restored dead definitions) and the three re-export stub modules
(gateway/startup_watchdog, hermes_cli/observability/relay_runtime, tools/environments/modal_utils)
- COMPAT_MANIFEST.md, compat_manifest.json, scripts/check_compat_pointers.py and its lint step
- the reporting surfaces: CLI banner notice, `hermes plugins compat`, the `hermes doctor` section,
the post-update notice, the Desktop one-time dialog, the loader's pre-import skip and the
`plugins.allow_deprecated_imports` escape hatch
An external plugin that still imports an old path now fails to load with its ImportError as the
reason in `hermes plugins list`, the same path as any broken plugin.
hermes_cli/plugin_compat.py stays as three inert stubs (compat_report, removal_in_effect,
summary_lines): an already-running pre-removal `hermes update` lazy-imports them after the checkout
swap (tests/compat/old_updater_surface.json).
In-tree fallout, both already dead: hermes_cli/setup.py::_check_espeak_ng (no callers; its
`shutil` came from a compat block) and gateway/config.py::SessionResetPolicy ("retained solely for
the scheduled plugin-compat window"). Two test_run_agent patches targeted the removed
`run_agent.handle_function_call` pointer; they now patch `model_tools.handle_function_call`, the
seam production reads, like every sibling test in that file.
* chore: retrigger CI (zero-job startup_failure phantom)
* test: drop resolution allowlist rows for the two deleted which() sites
hermes_cli/setup.py::_check_espeak_ng (dead) and tools/skillevaluator_scan.py::scanner_available
(a restored definition inside a PLUGIN-COMPAT block) no longer exist; the stale-row gate requires
their allowlist entries go with them.
Hermes's 14-day `[tool.uv] exclude-newer` quarantine applies to Hermes's own
dependencies only (uv lock/sync, `hermes update`, LAZY_DEPS extras via
`ensure()`). A plugin's declared `python_dependencies` install under the
PLUGIN's policy: `install_specs(policy="plugin")` runs uv with `--no-config`
from any cwd, still inside the core constraints file.
Reverses item 3 of #118841, which ran the uv tier with cwd=<checkout> for
every install so the quarantine reached plugin deps from any cwd. That made
catalog re-pins floored on a <14-day release uninstallable (#120076:
"only hindsight-client<=0.9.2 is available"; #114530 held on the same gate).
Maintainer ruling (Teknium): "plugins dont have to abide by our 14 day rule
btw. They can have their own security policy on that. Only hermes'
dependencies themselves have to. We should recommend that they do this for
their plugins and we should give guidance to plugin devs that they should
though."
- tools/lazy_deps.py: INSTALL_POLICIES ("core" | "plugin"); `_uv_policy_args`
replaces `_uv_policy_cwd`; `_venv_pip_install(policy=)` defaults to core
(ensure/LAZY_DEPS), `install_specs(policy=)` defaults to plugin.
- hermes_cli/plugin_python_deps.py: `resolve()` passes policy="plugin".
- Docs: developer guide "Dependency security policy" section, catalog README
admission rule 9, AGENTS.md pinning policy — plugin authors are responsible
for their deps and strongly recommended to pin upper bounds, floor on the
oldest API-compatible version and run their own release quarantine
(`uv --exclude-newer` in their CI); operators can set UV_EXCLUDE_NEWER.
- Tests: the #118841 cwd test is replaced by two invariants — a plugin install
carries `--no-config` and no checkout cwd (red on base), a core lazy install
keeps the checkout cwd and no `--no-config`.
A plugin that finished loading after an adapter connected never got its platform
handlers (slash commands, button callbacks, inbound transforms) registered until a
gateway restart, silently. Three pieces, one seam shared by every surface:
1. Discovery listener: PluginManager.on_plugin_loaded(cb) fires from INSIDE
discover_and_load for the plugins a sweep newly loaded (diff of the loaded set),
with a per-plugin activation summary (hermes_cli/plugins_activation.py):
activated_now {gateway_commands, gateway_transforms, hooks, callbacks} vs
deferred {tools, prompt, mcp_servers}. Every mid-run load path now performs a real
discover_plugins(force=True): CLI install/enable (via the gateway), Desktop/TUI
plugins.manage install/toggle/update, dashboard REST install, tool-triggered
force re-discovery, the new `reload-plugins` control-socket verb. A non-forced
discover_plugins() short-circuits on _discovered, which is why reload.mcp after
a mid-run install used to reload the OLD server set.
2. Idempotent re-wire: BasePlatformAdapter.rewire_plugin_handlers() runs only
factories not yet wired on the live native client (keyed (plugin, qualname);
a force reload hands back new function objects). Telegram hoists late handlers
ahead of core's catch-all filters.COMMAND / CallbackQueryHandler (PTB dispatches
the first match per group) and re-wires on the transient-init rebuild; Slack
dedupes register_slack_action_handler per AsyncApp. The gateway runner
subscribes per served profile and re-wires on the loop.
3. Scope limit + honest messaging: handlers only. Tools/prompt stay deferred to
the next session (prompt-cache invariant), MCP servers to mcp.reload; the CLI
hint and plugins.manage results (activation, gateway_reloaded,
restart_required only when no gateway answered) say exactly that.
* fix(plugins): portable MCP servers get a readable name so tool names fit the 64-char cap
A portable plugin's MCP server was named `<skill_namespace>__<server>`, i.e.
`agent-plugin-<slug>-<sha8>__<server>`. That prefix is right for plugin-data and skill names
(collision-free without coordination, and persisted on disk) but it costs ~40 chars of every
`mcp__<server>__<tool>` name. Providers cap function names at 64, so the registry clamped every
tool of the NVIDIA plugin to a hash-suffixed stub with the verb cut off:
`mcp__agent_plugin_hermes_nvidia_72eb26b1__nvidia_app__n_3fa9c2d1`.
Server names only need to be unique among loaded portable servers, and the loader already refuses
a clash. `portable_mcp_server_name(key, server)` = `<plugin-slug>__<server>`, collapsed to
`<plugin-slug>` when the two match (the one-server package). The loader and the desktop card's
server rows both call it (the card recomputed the f-string on its own before). Skill and plugin-data
namespaces are unchanged; nothing persisted refers to the server name, so no migration.
Tests: the existing portable-load test now pins the relationship (server name = plugin slug +
server; a long vendor tool name reaches the wire unclamped), and a new test covers the clash the
digest used to hide: two enabled packages folding to one slug, second server skipped, first served.
Both red on main. Docs: developer-guide/plugins/index.md.
* fix(plugins): a portable MCP server is named what its mcp.json calls it, nothing prepended
Drop the plugin segment too. A user's own config.yaml server named `nvidia-app` yields
`mcp__nvidia_app__<tool>`; a portable plugin's server of the same name now yields the same. Duplicates
are refused at load (config.yaml first, then first-loaded plugin) with a warning naming both owners.
Spike, isolated HERMES_HOME, real session: a portable plugin with server `acme-tools` and tool
`acme_client_get_driver_status_report` registers as
`mcp__acme_tools__acme_client_get_driver_status_report`; the model found it by tool_search, called it,
and reported that exact name. Same plugin on main: `mcp__agent_plugin_acme_tools_88e7456f__acme_tools__acme_153862de`.
* feat(platform): resolver core with locate/inspect/probe tiers and ordered candidates
Every resource lookup needs one result shape and one cost contract. `locate` reads
metadata only, `inspect` may open files and call OS APIs in-process, `probe` is fresh
and the only tier that may spawn or connect. `Resolution.candidates` keeps probe order
so fan-out consumers can try every present binary.
Linear NS-921.
* feat(platform): AppResolver over AppDef with plist, PE, registry, and server.json sources
Desktop apps need presence, version, and liveness as separate observations. The runtime
file's bearer token is parsed, used for one request, and discarded inside the probe;
no public type carries it. Endpoints are accepted only when loopback with a numeric port.
* refactor(copilot): gh candidates through locate_command and the Homebrew table
First consumer of the resolver. The gh token probe still tries every present binary in
order; the allowlist loses its two copilot_auth rows.
* feat(platform): availability() over an application declaration
locate() + inspect() only, never probes; the fail-closed _version in
app.py treats a vendor's plist/PE/registry entry as untrusted input.
Salvaged from PR #118122; reads any object with requires_app,
min_version, app_for(os) — nothing here imports the MCP catalog.
* feat(platform): application declarations parsed into AppDef per OS
The parser slice of PR #118122's catalog manifest, re-homed as a
catalog-free module: whoever owns an MCP server declares the app it
fronts per OS and what it needs, and registers it here. Stdlib +
hermes_platform.resolver only. register/lookup/clear are the one seam
the MCP check_fn and the skill gate both read.
* feat(mcp): check_fn honours a registered application declaration
_make_check_fn ANDs the declared app's availability into the
connection-alive check; with nothing registered for the server the
behaviour is the pre-PR3 connection check. Provenance is explicit
registration, not endpoint matching. Returns a plain bool: the registry
caches bool(fn()).
* feat(skills): requires_apps gate through registered declarations
Offer-time filter beside environments:; names resolve through
hermes_platform.declaration, an unknown name hides the skill (fail
closed). The disk snapshot carries requires_apps and the fast path
re-evaluates it (snapshot version bumped to 3): app presence is a host
fact that changes without SKILL.md changing.
* docs: application declarations page
The plugin-facing schema reference: app: and requires: blocks,
availability() states, and the two gates that read the registry.
Registered under Extending > Plugins in the docs sidebar.
* test(platform): declaration parser, availability, gates
The PR3 app-block tests re-homed off the catalog: fixtures are dicts
passed to parse_declaration, the check_fn gate keys on explicit
registration (not endpoint matching), and the import-hygiene probe now
covers hermes_platform.declaration and resolver.availability.
A plugin manifest's `config_schema` now reaches the Desktop: `plugins.manage list`
returns each plugin's schema with the current `plugins.entries.<id>.settings`
values (`settings_schema`), and a new `settings` action writes edits through
`hermes_cli.plugins_state.save_plugin_setting` — the writer extracted from
`PluginContext.set_config`, so the plugin, the CLI and the Desktop share one
config path, one lock and the same managed-install / managed-key refusals.
The Plugins tab grows a gear per plugin with a schema; the inline form is
table-driven (`FIELD_CONTROLS` / `INITIAL_TEXT` / `COERCE` keyed on the wire
field type) for string / number / boolean / enum / json / secret. Secrets are
declared with `type: secret`: the row carries only the `.env` name and a
presence flag, the client writes the value through the existing `PUT /api/env`
credential route, and the RPC refuses secret keys so nothing lands in
config.yaml.
Contracts regenerated; docs gain a "Settings form in the Desktop" section.
Auxiliary LLM calls (titling, compression, MoA advisors/aggregator, vision,
approval, ...) never reached any plugin hook: hook-based observability and
cost plugins were structurally blind to them. Teknium's ruling on #79733:
NEW events rather than reusing the turn-scoped pre/post_api_request pair,
so existing subscribers keep their per-turn semantics.
- agent/auxiliary_hooks.py (new sibling): builds the pre_api_request /
post_api_request payload shape plus `aux_task`, `api_request_id`
(`aux-...`, shared by every attempt of one logical call), `retry_count`,
`streaming`, parent-turn `session_id`/`task_id`/`turn_id` when a main
turn is in flight; fail-open (a raising/hung subscriber is logged and
the aux task proceeds); post carries `error`/`error_type` on failure.
- agent/auxiliary_client.py: the three relay funnels every physical
attempt shares (_relay_sync_completion / _relay_async_completion /
_relay_sync_stream) run under the hook pair — retries and fallbacks
included. Main-loop *_api_request events do not fire for aux calls.
- Catalogue: VALID_HOOKS, bounded-timeout hook set, `hermes hooks test`
sample payloads, hooks.md / plugins index / observer-hooks / plugins.md
tables, agent + plugins AGENTS.md.
- tests/agent/test_auxiliary_hooks.py: 2 invariants (pair fires with
aux_task and no api_request events; raising subscriber never breaks
the call). First is red on origin/main.

#79826 (@webtecnica) — their relay-boundary placement, usage
normalisation and fail-open policy shaped this implementation.

`~/.hermes/hooks/` auto-loads every valid `HOOK.yaml` + `handler.py` at
gateway startup with no `plugins.enabled` gate. That is the documented
contract since 3988c3c245 ("Implicit (dir trust)" in the comparison
table), but the plugins page's "disabled by default" promise read as if
it covered gateway hooks too (#37963). Maintainer ruling: keep implicit
dir trust, fix the docs.
- hooks.md: new "Trust model" section stating exactly what loads, when,
how, and that placing the files is the opt-in; comparison-table cell
links to it and the plugin-hooks consent cell now says
`plugins.enabled`.
- plugins.md: note scoping `plugins.enabled` away from gateway hooks.
- developer-guide/plugins: one sentence at the gateway-hook recipe.
- security.md: "Trusted-by-placement extension points" section
cross-linked from hooks.md.
ToolRegistry.dispatch spread every injected keyword (task_id, session_id,
user_task, parent_agent, ...) into the handler, so a third-party plugin tool
written as `def handle(args)` raised TypeError on every call. The plugin
contract (plugins/AGENTS.md) says optional kwargs are signature-inspected, not
forwarded unconditionally; hooks already do this in plugins_dispatch. Handlers
taking **kwargs still receive the full payload. Docs updated: the narrow
signature is supported, **kwargs opts into the whole context.
Fixes#68318
credit: @vveerrgg #22146 (slim redo; #68636 is the later duplicate)
Branch semantics kept where main and PM disagree: update_cmd_deps.py,
constraints-termux.txt, the Electron update-api-check module and the
post-swap hand-off test stay deleted; the pending-fleet-restart catch-up
and the local_runtime tag/download ladder stay retired (PM owns engines).
Ported from main onto the branch's shape: profile_scoped_chore for the
auto-archive and plugin-update housekeeping chores, the local-runtime
cross-process boot lock and residency cap, the checkpoint tmp_pack sweep,
the cua daemon-liveness status probe, the remote-served Desktop update
flag (posix.sh / windows.ps1), sign-in for env-pinned remote gateways
(urlDisabled on RemoteSetupFields), the uvloop extra split (uvicorn
without [standard]), and the umask-scoping spawn test.
uv.lock regenerated with pm.build_env --lock-only; new utf-8 reads from
main switched to utf-8-sig (check-windows-footguns).
Mechanical `check_doc_links.py --fix` pass over website/docs (hand-authored
and generated pages) and the zh-Hans mirror: 1,868 route-style links
(`](/section/page#anchor)`, `](/docs/...)`) become `](../section/page.md#anchor)`.
Every target was asserted to exist on disk; anchors and query strings are
preserved; fenced code blocks and inline-code examples are untouched.
Two dead targets found by the converter were fixed by hand first:
memory-providers.md linked `/user-guide/plugins` (page is
`user-guide/features/plugins`), and the zh-Hans learning-path still linked the
removed `rl-training` page — ported the EN treatment (external Atropos link).
Docusaurus build after: EN locale 0 unresolved Markdown links, 0 broken links,
0 broken anchors.
Reconcile plugin declarations and validation through PM's atomic generation publication; preserve external runtimes, target markers, and conflict refusal. Keep one source-update completion owner and port upstream lifecycle changes to the PM desktop/runtime paths.
A directory plugin's pyproject.toml [project].dependencies (or manifest
python_dependencies) are now installed into the Hermes venv on install/enable/
update, resolved under a constraints file built from Hermes' own pinned
dependencies together with every enabled peer's declarations. A candidate that
cannot resolve is refused before its tree is moved into place; nothing is
installed and no other plugin is touched. --no-deps opts a single install out.
hermes update rebuilds the venv from Hermes' lock and strips everything else, so
its git, zip and both repair paths now re-apply the union of every profile's
enabled plugins. When the union no longer resolves, each plugin is resolved on
its own so only culprits are dropped (never an alphabetical neighbour); a
plugin-vs-plugin conflict peels non-memory plugins first because a Hermes that
boots without memory reads as data loss. Dropped plugins are disabled through
the real config writer with a loud message naming the fix.
python_runtime: external lets sidecar-venv plugins (Mnemosyne's shape) opt out
of the union; hermes-agent self-dependencies and direct-URL requirements are
never installed (the latter are surfaced for the user to install by hand).
Run historical updater completion in a fresh interpreter so cached imports
cannot revive retired dependency installers. Share Git and ZIP completion,
carry receipt and recovery state, and preserve child exit status.
Route plugin admission, binary acquisition, desktop launch and build paths
through PM. Replace redundant helpers and tests with real worker, package,
publication and launch checks. Keep the shipped compatibility surface fixed.
Targeted Python and desktop checks pass. Native update journeys and fresh
production image qualification remain pending. This is a checkpoint before
those acceptance runs.
Competing installers and checkout-local venv assumptions bypassed PM
selection, install consent, and generation lifetimes. Route consumers
through PM and installation-bound launchers. Refresh source launchers
before obsolete Python entries can be collected.
Remove Node, browser, and CUA acquisition engines, obsolete venv-holder
handling, detached sync, and unused PM APIs. Keep historical updater
exports inert and preserve external tool ownership and native integration.
Share product freshness and prepared inputs across builders. Align plugin
admission, Docker provisioning, setup instructions, and behavioral tests.
Verified targeted Python and JavaScript tests, desktop and web typechecks,
scoped lint, real product builds, and the Docker frontend smoke test.
The missed post-setup test cleanup is included and verified.
Native Windows/macOS execution, full Rust compilation, and the complete
repository suite remain unverified. Historical compatibility requirements
were preserved and extended, not fully rescanned.
Activation reaches plugin discovery before the application dependencies
exist. Give PM its own locked Python project and runtime so it can install
or repair the application without importing that dependency tree.
Keep PM outside the application workspace. A shared uv workspace resolves
the application graph and cannot provide this isolation. Route mutations
through an isolated worker and preserve transaction callbacks, cancellation,
custom package registrations, and correlated receipts.
Use the same runtime builder for source installs and packaged payloads.
Keep offline wheelhouse support in that builder. Nix builds the independent
PM lock as a separate derivation. Refuse lazy-disabled bootstrap before
installing tools or dependencies.
Move first-party YAML readers and writers to ruamel. Keep the application
lock's transitive PyYAML requirements for third-party packages.
Verification:
- Focused canonical Python suite: 177 passed, 1 host-gated skip.
- Electron backend probes: 12 passed. Electron typecheck passed.
- Both uv locks, scoped lint, Bash syntax, and whitespace checks passed.
- Cold activation, corrupt-app repair, offline staging, and relocation ran.
- Built and exercised the Nix PM runtime and standalone YAML merge script.
Six broader caller test files retain the same 24 failing test IDs as an
archive of HEAD. The existing real-home guard blocks those tests before
they can exercise the affected paths. No full-suite pass is claimed.
Native Windows signing and full Bionic package execution remain unverified.
Finish bootstrap uv before PM replaces its store entry. Keep failure
receipts stdlib-only and align the cryptography requirement and override
with the locked version.
Let bundle builders declare launch paths and update ownership. Remove
payload discovery, Store probing, and the unused develop command.
Derive Nix Python from the PM lock and share its provenance stamp.
Document setup, activation, optional dependencies, and distribution
ownership. Targeted Windows tests, relocated runtime launches, Electron
bundling, and bilingual docs builds pass. Native Nix and signed-package
acceptance remain CI gates.
hermes_cli/plugin_compat.py is now the single source of truth for the compat window:
COMPAT_REMOVAL_DATE = 2026-09-14; scan_plugin() statically finds `from F import n`, `import F` + `F.n`,
alias forms and string targets against compat_manifest.json; compat_report() aggregates over the user's
ENABLED external (non-bundled) plugins; disable_reason() decides the loader's skip.
Surfaces (all read from that one report):
* CLI: yellow block under the banner naming plugins + date + `hermes plugins compat` (red + DISABLED after)
* `hermes plugins compat [--json] [path]`: file:line, old -> new per hit; exit 1 while anything remains;
`path` lets a plugin author scan their own checkout
* `hermes doctor`: "Plugin import paths (removed Sep 14, 2026)" section next to the xAI retirement check
* `hermes update`: post-update notice alongside the FTS/curator notices
* Desktop: compat_report() writes HERMES_HOME/.plugin-compat-report.json (deleted when clean); Electron
shows ONE warning dialog per distinct report after the backend is up and persists the dismissal in
userData/plugin-compat-dismissed.json. A new affected plugin, or the date passing, is a new report.
From the date, PluginManager skips a hitting external plugin before importing it, with the reason in
LoadedPlugin.error ("uses N import path(s) removed on 2026-09-14; run `hermes plugins compat` ...") — the
same path a plugin with a broken register() takes, so nothing else is affected. Escape hatch:
plugins.allow_deprecated_imports: true (config_defaults), which only helps until the compat commit is
actually reverted.
Docs: COMPAT_MANIFEST.md (removal date, what-happens table, author instructions), plugin dev guide section.
Tests: tests/test_plugin_compat_notice.py (scanner forms, report scope, date gate + escape hatch, summary
text, report file lifecycle, loader skip via a real PluginManager), electron/plugin-compat-notice.test.ts
(show once, re-show on a different set or on the date passing, malformed file ignored).
Live A/B on this box with a demo plugin on old paths: before the date it loads and the banner/doctor/report
name it; with today=2026-09-14 it is skipped with the reason and the banner turns red; with the escape
hatch it loads again.
Introduce the pm store: a unified, hash-verified package store that
replaces lazy_deps and the old installer's ad-hoc tool downloads.
Store tools are provisioned on PATH (ffmpeg, node/npm via pinned uv),
with a resumable 8-way downloader, verify() returning failure reasons,
and adopt() made EPERM-safe. chromium ships in the payload for every
target. The 3600-line install.sh is replaced by a staged bootstrapper
(heavy deps are pm's job after this); setup-hermes.sh, Dockerfile and
nix pin tables are rewired onto the store. Old install-script tests,
lazy_deps/managed_uv/build_info, and the ps1/bash installer test
batteries are removed with the machinery they tested.
Rebuilt from ethie/pm onto upstream/main (ac6c8028e0) after the
utf-8-sig sweep. 16 hot files (main also churned them) hand-merged:
platform adapters, main.py, electron/main.ts, tui_gateway/server.py,
cua_backend, installer-tests workflow, install.sh (full rewrite),
setup-hermes.sh, plugins doc.
ctx.register_platform_handler(platform, factory) — the generic surface for
plugins to wire native handlers into any platform adapter at connect()
time. Factories receive (native, adapter): the platform's client/app
object (PTB Application, discord.py Bot, slack_bolt AsyncApp, Teams App,
DingTalkStreamClient, aiohttp web.Application) or None for adapters with
no separate native object.
- BasePlatformAdapter._wire_plugin_handlers(native): shared, isolated
invocation helper — a raising plugin cannot block a platform connect.
- All 27 connectable adapters call it: telegram/slack/teams/line/
api_server/msgraph_webhook wire before their dispatch tables freeze;
the rest hook at connect success.
- register_telegram_handler and get_telegram_handler_factories retained
as thin back-compat aliases over the telegram bucket.
- Source-invariant test guarantees every adapter with connect() keeps
calling the hook.
Mirrors the Slack precedent (register_slack_action_handler): plugins queue
a factory at register() time; the Telegram adapter invokes each factory
with (application, adapter) at connect() time, before the core handlers
register, so pattern-scoped plugin handlers take precedence for their own
updates while everything else falls through unchanged. Factories are
isolated — a raising plugin cannot prevent Telegram from connecting.
Unblocks standalone plugins that need PTB update types the core adapter
doesn't route (Telegram Business API secretary bots, custom callback
prefixes, chat-member events) without touching core files.
Plugins that persist state have been writing into their own install tree
(<hermes home>/plugins/<name>/), which `hermes plugins update` git-pulls and
`hermes plugins remove` deletes — user data dies with the code that wrote it.
plugins/plugin_storage.py is the sanctioned home: plugin_data_dir(name) gives
one data root per plugin under <hermes home>/plugin-data/<name>/ (profile-
aware, created on first use, names validated against traversal), and
plugin_db(name) opens a WAL-mode SQLite database inside it. Secrets stay on
the existing secret-scope path — this is state, not credentials.
hermes-achievements, the in-tree offender, converts with a legacy-file
migration on first read.
Follow-ups on salvaged #85287:
- discover_entrypoint_manifests() now carries BOTH the import-free kind
classification (from #85527) and capability declarations — the two
contracts compose in one function instead of the capability rewrite
dropping classification.
- Per-entry exception isolation: one malformed distribution no longer
blanks every other plugin's manifest (same contract as
providers/__init__.py entry-point scan).
- Documented the hermes_agent.plugin_capabilities group in the plugin
developer guide (pyproject example).
Additive plugin.yaml v2 fields (all optional; v1 manifests unchanged forever):
- manifest_version: manifest FILE-FORMAT version (absent = 1). Deliberately
split from api_version per the round-2 design correction. Newer-than-
supported versions load with a warning, unknown fields ignored.
- api_version: runtime plugin API generation the plugin targets (integer).
- requires_plugins: advisory inter-plugin deps ({id, version_range?}).
Missing dep = warn + still load (ctx.has_plugin() runtime probe added).
Load ORDER is dependency-respecting: graphlib topological sort, stable
alphabetical tiebreak; cycles warn and fall back to alphabetical.
- python_dependencies: declared pip requirements — VALIDATED AND SURFACED
ONLY (loader warning + install-time printout + doctor checks with a pip
install hint). Never auto-installed: the isolation design for the install
seam (#15220) is an explicitly deferred follow-up per the round-2 review.
- config_schema: JSON-schema-ish description of plugins.entries.<id>.settings
keys; validated at load, mismatches are actionable warnings naming the key
and expected type — never load failures.
- Formalized metadata: license, homepage, tags.
- Unknown manifest fields warn-don't-fail (debug-level for v1 manifests).
- hermes plugins doctor gains v2 checks: future manifest_version, invalid
api_version, dep declarations, unpinned/missing python_dependencies,
unknown config_schema types.
- Docs: manifest v2 reference table in the developer-guide plugins index,
including the explicit pip-seam isolation deferral and the note that
#64166 packs build on these fields.
- Tests: tests/hermes_cli/test_plugin_manifest_v2.py (19 tests) covering v1
regression, v2 parse, unknown-field warn, dep order, cycle fallback,
config_schema warnings, and the surfaced-not-installed pip seam.
Unify the scattered per-plugin trust gates into one declared, diffable
capability model with an install/update-time consent flow. Consent +
audit over host API surfaces — explicitly NOT a sandbox.
New module hermes_cli/plugin_capabilities.py:
- Canonical CAPABILITY_REGISTRY mapping each capability id 1:1 to an
EXISTING enforcing gate (no capability minted without a surface):
tools.override -> allow_tool_override
llm.provider_override -> llm.allow_provider_override
llm.model_override -> llm.allow_model_override
llm.agent_id_override -> llm.allow_agent_id_override
llm.profile_override -> llm.allow_profile_override
llm.task_override -> llm.allow_task_override
- plugin_capability_granted(plugin_id, capability): canonical check —
granted set OR deprecated legacy allow_* key; fail closed on unknown
ids and any unreadable/corrupt consent state; emits checked_by audit
log lines on every decision.
- record_consent() persists plugins.entries.<id>.granted_capabilities +
capabilities_consent {hash, granted_at} and mirrors grants into the
legacy keys so existing enforcement sites keep working unchanged.
- capability_set_hash / pending_capabilities / declared_set_changed
power the update-time re-consent diff.
Wiring:
- plugin.yaml manifest field `capabilities:` parsed into
PluginManifest.capabilities (unknown ids dropped with a warning).
- hermes plugins install: consent screen (one Y/n) when the manifest
declares capabilities; non-interactive installs proceed with
capabilities ungranted (fail closed).
- hermes plugins update: when the new version declares capabilities the
granted set lacks (hash diff), the additions are surfaced and require
re-consent — an update can never silently widen access.
- hermes plugins enable: consent screen replaces the standalone
tool-override prompt for capability-declaring plugins.
- hermes plugins capabilities [<id>]: declared vs granted per plugin,
flags grants held via deprecated legacy keys.
- PluginContext.has_capability() probing API so plugins degrade
gracefully; _tool_override_allowed migrated to the canonical
plugin_capability_granted path (reference migration; legacy
allow_tool_override still honored).
Tests: tests/hermes_cli/test_plugin_capabilities.py (38 tests) —
declaration parsing, consent grant/persist, update re-consent on added
capability, fail-closed on missing/corrupt state, legacy-gate backward
compat, consent CLI flow (grant / decline / non-interactive).
Docs: user-guide plugins.md consent section (with explicit not-a-sandbox
warning) + developer-guide plugin authoring capability note.
Salvages the intent of PR #37976 (@coygeek — require renewed review
before plugin updates), scoped to capability diffs.
Part of #64182.
Builds on Paolo Antinori's #68431 salvage for #64176. Move plugin dispatch behind the profile-scoped runner authorization boundary, fail closed on malformed reaction identities, preserve observer registration across Telegram app rebuilds, and document the deliberately observer-only contract.

Per review, docs/plugins.md was a parallel guide outside the published
navigation. Its genuinely unique material moves into
website/docs/developer-guide/plugins/index.md: the middleware
registration surface (all four VALID_MIDDLEWARE kinds with contracts and
chaining rules), the per-API-call request hooks, and the
allow_tool_override operator grant (which also fixes pre-existing text
implying override=True alone suffices for non-bundled plugins). Every
migrated claim was re-verified against current main; stale material
(deep-copy claim, approval-surface coverage, a hook that is not in
VALID_HOOKS on main) was corrected or dropped rather than copied.

Agent Plugins v1 packages with 'streamable-http' mcp.json entries now load
through Hermes' existing URL-based MCP client instead of being reported and
skipped. The stdio-only limitation was the agreed follow-up slice from
PR #81196.
Boundary rules from the v1 spec (§7.2.1) are enforced:
- URL must be absolute http(s), no user information, no fragment; plain
HTTP only for localhost/loopback hosts.
- Configured package headers are never forwarded across a cross-origin
redirect: translation marks entries strict_redirect_headers, and the
redirect hook in the native runtime strips those headers (plus
Authorization) whenever a redirect leaves the original origin. On mcp <
1.24.0, where the client cannot hook redirects, such servers fail closed
with an actionable upgrade message.
- Legacy 'sse' entries remain reported and skipped.
The redirect hook is extracted into a testable module-level factory
(_make_redirect_header_stripper); default behavior for native config
servers is unchanged (Authorization-only stripping).
HERMES_LOCAL_STT_COMMAND rendered quoted placeholders into a
user-configured template and passed the result to shell=True. Shell
metacharacters in the template therefore remained executable syntax even
though the placeholder values themselves were quoted.
Tokenize the rendered template and invoke it as an argv list while
preserving the existing timeout, closed stdin, and Windows creation flags.
Lock the invocation contract with metacharacter regression coverage and
document explicit shell wrapping for trusted templates that need it.

Add an end-to-end developer guide for extending the native Hermes Desktop
app introduced in #60638: the HermesPlugin contract, PluginContext, every
contribution area (panes, routes, sidebar nav, status/title bar, palette,
keybinds, themes, composer, mount-scoped Contribute), the host API, the
React Query + nanostores data layer, the UI kit + theme variables, the
scoped ctx.rest/ctx.socket backend (plugin_api.py under /api/plugins/<id>)
and its separate enable gate, Settings/defaultEnabled/storage, bundled
plugins, the security model, pitfalls, and a full reference.
- Register the page in the sidebar under Extending -> Plugins.
- Disambiguate from the unrelated web-dashboard plugin SDK from both
directions, and add a map-table row + a desktop user-guide pointer.
- Fill the gaps in the agent-facing hermes-desktop-plugins skill
(ctx.rest/socket + backend, React Query, defaultEnabled, Contribute)
and point it at the new reference so agents know the SDK when writing
addons.
- New developer-guide/browser-provider-plugin.md: BrowserProvider ABC
(session lifecycle, CDP contract, bb_session_id back-compat key,
raise/never-raise split between create and close/cleanup),
get_setup_schema() hermes-tools integration, discovery, checklist.
Closes the one gap in the provider-plugin family — the ABC and
ctx.register_browser_provider() existed with zero docs.
- Register the page in the Plugins sidebar subcategory.
- Extend the routing map on the Plugins landing page (both locales)
with the previously missing rows: web-search, browser, secret-source,
and dashboard-auth surfaces.
* docs(secrets): secret-source plugin developer guide + sidebar registration for 1Password page
- New developer-guide/secret-source-plugin.md: SecretSource contract
(never raises/prompts, fetch-only, timeout budget), framework-vs-plugin
ownership table, mapped-vs-bulk shape guidance, run_secret_cli()
subprocess-safety, registration + timing note, conformance kit usage,
ErrorKind reference.
- Register user-guide/secrets/onepassword in the sidebar (page shipped
in #59498 but was not listed, so it was unreachable from nav).
- Cross-link the user-guide plugin section to the new dev guide.
* docs: group all plugin guides under a Plugins subcategory in Extending
- Move guides/build-a-hermes-plugin.md -> developer-guide/plugins/index.md
(both locales) and make it the category landing page (slug pinned to
/developer-guide/plugins).
- New sidebar subcategory Developer Guide > Extending > Plugins holding
the general guide + all 8 provider-plugin docs (llm-access, memory,
context-engine, secret-source, model, image-gen, video-gen, web-search);
provider-doc URLs unchanged.
- Client redirect /guides/build-a-hermes-plugin -> /developer-guide/plugins.
- Update 30 cross-links across both locales.
