Runtime identity resolved through hermes_cli.__version__ (a static 0.0.0
on source installs, rewritten by release stamping) leaked v0.0.0 into
About, /api/health, User-Agents, and plugin compat, and source updates
showed "couldn't reach update server" because identity and channel
authority disagreed with the checkout.
Now: get_version_info() resolves install stamp -> live git -> unknown,
never pyproject metadata, never a package constant. Source checkouts
derive identity from their reachable release tag; the completion tail of
every successful install/update/historical takeover atomically rewrites
install-stamp.json with that identity; a stale source stamp whose commit
no longer matches HEAD defers to live git. ACP/TUI use derived_version
for display and base_version for protocol fields; all ~44 runtime
__version__ consumers migrated; hermes_cli.__version__ and generated
_version.py are gone; release stamping only touches the native manifests
external builders consume (nix/tauri/cargo) and passes release identity
straight into write_install_stamp.py; pyproject.toml stays inert 0.0.0.
Desktop no longer synthesizes a competing install-stamp.json: the
checkout owns its stamp, and desktop-bootstrap classification keys on
the bootstrap-complete marker. verify-bootstrap-version-stamp.py now
cross-checks the checkout's stamp (baseVersion + commit == HEAD).
Validation: 31-file focused suite green (version identity, stamping,
adoption, providers, gateway, acp/tui runtime identity, api server via
extras env, release graph); desktop tsc + 25 vitest green; real-repo
probe: base=unknown derived=git.0635606.dirty source=git on this
checkout; clean-env imports resolve entirely from this tree; windows
footgun + compat-pointer scans clean.
Two test functions: the lifecycle contract (clone/rename open their own DB) and the
save_config contract (this profile's own default spelling becomes the placeholder; a path
elsewhere is kept as given, so a deliberately shared store still works).
The setup schema offered db_path as f"{display_hermes_home()}/memory_store.db",
so `hermes memory setup` (Enter on the field) and the dashboard form wrote the
active profile's concrete path into plugins.hermes-memory-store. initialize()
only expands a literal $HERMES_HOME, and neither `profile create --clone` nor
`profile rename` rewrites config.yaml, so:
- a cloned profile opened the source profile's memory_store.db: facts stored
in one profile were recalled into the other's prompts, both ways;
- a renamed profile opened profiles/<old>/memory_store.db, which MemoryStore
re-created as an empty DB in a ghost directory under the old name, while the
real facts sat orphaned in the renamed directory.
The schema default is now "$HERMES_HOME/memory_store.db", the value the docs
already give, which initialize() resolves against whichever profile opens it.
save_config also stores a db_path equal to this profile's own DB as the
placeholder, so a config written by an older setup is repaired on its next save
from the CLI or the dashboard. A path anywhere else is kept as given.
Change-detectors, tautologies, source-reading tests, redundant duplicates,
mock-echo tests and dead/unrunnable tests. Per-test rationale in the lane
ledger (category + reason for every removal).
Deleted: the seven files whose subject was plugins/memory/hindsight itself
(provider, config schema, env perms, local-runtime hint, templates, health
grace timeout, root guard) and the hindsight-only cases inside the multiplex
identity-scope, provider-thread, BOM-tolerance and session-switch suites.
Retargeted: the dashboard memory-provider config-surface tests used hindsight
as the only bundled provider with a flat `<home>/<name>/config.json` declared
schema; they now install a synthetic user plugin (`flatprov`) into the isolated
HERMES_HOME so the generic declared/live PUT + GET paths stay covered. The
lazy_deps plugin-owned-range test keeps mem0ai as its subject.
Parse memory-provider manifests through the declared hermes_yaml layer so manifest-name deny-list entries cannot fail open when PyYAML is absent. Exercise enabled and disabled profiles A→B→A to lock down config and module cache isolation.
Salvage of #66777 (@chrisyoung2005): the dashboard toggle toast now says a restart is needed
(#71595). Moved the ``restart_required`` stamp from a dashboard router wrapper into
dashboard_set_agent_plugin_enabled so the ``plugins.manage`` RPC (TUI/Desktop) carries it too;
contract + generated TS regenerated. The salvaged endpoint tests stubbed the toggle they were
checking — replaced by invariant tests that run the real commands against a temp HERMES_HOME
(all red on origin/main): platform disable gates the loader, alias toggle writes the canonical
key, status honours bundled defaults + memory.provider, remove forgets config / resets
memory.provider / unlinks a symlink only, disabled memory provider is not loaded.
test_deferred_platform_client_tools: bundled a2a is keyed ``platforms/a2a`` now.
The OS lanes are marker-driven: list_os_marked_tests.py picks the files
a lane imports from their platforms() specs and the lane selects with
-m platforms. A test gated with skipif(sys.platform != "win32") is
therefore never imported on the Windows lane and skipped everywhere else
— it runs on no host. skipif(sys.platform == "win32") tests were merely
invisible to the lane bookkeeping, but the rule the tree now follows is
one host marker, never a bare skipif.
Mechanical mapping, semantics preserved: skip-on-Windows → "posix",
skip-off-Windows → "windows", skip-off-Linux → "linux", skip-on-macOS →
"not macos". The former skip reasons stay as trailing comments. A
non-host condition (os.geteuid() == 0) stays a separate skipif beside
the marker, spelled getattr(os, "geteuid", ...) so the decorator still
imports on Windows.
Where the conversion would stack two platforms() marks on one test (the
conftest rejects that at collection) the narrower mark wins:
- test_update_wedged_gateway: the class is already platforms("linux");
its per-test "needs UNIX sockets" marks were redundant and are gone.
- test_process_registry.TestSystemdCgroupIsolation: the class-level
skip-on-Windows moves onto the 11 methods that had no host mark; the
11 platforms("linux") methods keep theirs.
- test_file_ops_single_roundtrip: the two fifo tests drop their
platforms("linux") in favour of the module's "posix" (mkfifo exists on
macOS; both tests already skip when it does not).
- test_linux_desktop_entry / test_gateway_job_teardown_live: duplicate
or wider marks removed.
_daemon_subprocess_env copied dict(os.environ), which under multiplex is
the LAUNCH profile's: profile X's daemon started with the default
profile's HERMES_HOME and credentials. It now builds the child env with
served_profile_child_env(inherit_credentials=False) — the manager reads
the LLM keys from the profile's own 0600 env file, so the child needs no
credentials from us.
check_local_runtime spawned 'python -c import ... sentence_transformers'
(a torch cold start) from is_available(), unavailable_reason() and
initialize() on every session. The verdict is now kept per interpreter
path for the process; a reinstall publishes a new PM generation, so a
new path re-probes.
Merge fallout (my resolution errors, all caught by CI):
- hermes_cli/backup.py + gateway.py: `theirs` on those hunks re-imported clusters HEAD had
already moved to backup_restore.py / kept in the facade. backup.py loses the 349-line
duplicate (main's #110179 fix is ported into backup_restore._import_db_member); the
systemd service-unit cluster returns to gateway.py (PM's _prepare_service_launcher /
_pm_managed_node_dirs / _systemd_command have no home in main's extraction) with main's
utf-8-sig read. gateway_service_unit.py is dropped.
- gateway/run.py: main's plugin-update chore is not profile-scoped (the housekeeping
ordering test pins the scope/drain sequence).
- pyproject + 30 test files: `import yaml` -> `import hermes_yaml as yaml` (pm-clean has no
pyyaml); gateway/config._bundled_platform_manifest_name reads through hermes_yaml.
- tests re-seamed onto pm-clean's shape: residency admission (installed_engine),
supervisor child env (binary is a constructor argument), update import guard
(update_cmd_deps is gone; our probe already scrubs PYTHONPATH — both #115032 invariants
pass), shallow-count git responses (stash path asks `status --porcelain -z`); dropped
tests for retired code (_run_node_bootstrap/_ensure_tui_node, Windows resume demotion).
- tests/tools/test_local_env_blocklist.py: restore the two helpers the suite-reduction
commit dropped and the blocklist import.
Real fixes:
- pm: classify_uv_failure/ResolutionConflict move beside the uv runner (pm.environment,
stdlib-only). pm.workspace imports tomllib at module level and cannot load on the 3.10
bootstrap python that streams uv output in the Docker arm64 image.
- tools/browser_tool.warm_agent_browser_npx_cache: back as a permanent definition — it is on
the frozen old-updater surface, and the revert-scheduled compat pointer does not count.
- hermes_cli/memory_setup: the dashboard's pip row uses pm.environments.
running_from_selected_environment for installed vs restart_required.
- scripts/windows-build-deps.ps1: export DISTUTILS_USE_SDK/MSSdk so setuptools trusts the
primed MSVC environment instead of asking vswhere (`env -i` test runner on win32-arm64
compiling ruamel-yaml-clib); run_tests.sh forwards them.
- tests/pm/test_windows_build_deps.py: start the protocol test from a parent env without the
toolchain variables the runner job already exports.
- tests/conftest.py scrubs HERMES_BUNDLED_PLUGINS (Nix-wrapped hermes on the dev host);
tests/home_io_guard.py treats sys.path site-packages under the real home as the
interpreter's installation (PM-activated developer shell).
- tests-js: four `curly` lint errors from main's new scripts.
Conflicts resolved toward the branch: PM owns dependency preparation, the
Windows shim re-exec/hand-off path stays retired (main's shim-parent wait,
gateway-resume env token and update_cmd_deps tests dropped), docs describe
the PM update flow. The docker workflow parks install-stamp.json around the
toolchain step instead of deleting it so tests/docker can compare provenance.
Each test is red on origin/main and green on the fix; each also asserts the
control case (evicted LSP file re-opens with diagnostics, every log line
written once, unexpired fuzzy root kept, every hindsight turn shipped once).
Trims the hindsight comment to the why.
hermes_cli.runtime_paths (venv generations, selection, activation) moves to
pm.environments, and gains venv_bin_dir / venv_python / project_python. Every
in-tree caller asks pm for an interpreter now; pm no longer reaches back into
hermes_cli for its own environment layout (pm.packages, pm.extras, pm.ensure,
pm.paths imported hermes_cli.runtime_paths). The three open-coded
"Scripts/python.exe or bin/python" ladders in pm collapse onto venv_python.
hermes_constants.venv_python_path / venv_bin_dir and hermes_cli.runtime_paths
stay as frozen-updater-surface shims only (tests/compat/old_updater_surface.json).
To keep the boot path light, pm/__init__ resolves its facade lazily (PEP 562)
and pm.registry loads the built-in package definitions on first read instead of
at import: `import hermes_bootstrap` now loads pm + pm.environments only (25ms,
was 37ms with the eager facade dragging in the downloader). The stripped-payload
fixtures that ship only pre-import files keep working for the same reason.
Also restores two frozen-surface re-exports the F401 sweep dropped
(banner._github_compare_behind, cua_backend.resolve_cua_driver_cmd).
Merges from origin/main resolved several files by taking main's side, which
re-inlined code paths this branch had already moved to PM. At HEAD that left:
- plugins/memory/hindsight: ImportError at module load (`_export_port_health_
grace_timeout` and `_MIN_CLIENT_VERSION` no longer exist) — the whole plugin
failed to import. Restored the side-env daemon client, folded main's
fail-closed profile-env rewrite guard into it, and dropped the version
auto-upgrade dance (the extra is pinned).
- mem0 / honcho / google_chat / memory_provider_migration / plugins_cmd_catalog:
imported the deleted tools.lazy_deps and hermes_cli.plugin_python_deps
modules; routed through pm.ensure_import / pm.sync_venv / pm.plugins_state.
scripts/ci/check_lazy_deps_imports.py exits 0 again.
- tools/skills_hub: the PLUGIN-COMPAT __getattr__ had been moved above
`_plugin_compat_prev_getattr = __getattr__`, so `SKILLS_DIR` recursed forever.
- tools/tirith_security: `import time` dropped; the circuit breaker NameError'd.
- hermes_cli/local_runtime/binaries: json/platform/os used without imports;
the manifest.json scan was for a layout PM no longer writes — the boot gate
now asks PM for an installed engine.
The autouse fixture shadowed an installed hindsight-client SDK with a
fake module (no __path__), so 'import hindsight_client' failed and
test_retain_timestamp_is_serialized_by_pinned_client skipped permanently
in venvs that have the extra. Gate the fake on
importlib.util.find_spec('hindsight_client_api') is None.
Reconcile plugin declarations and validation through PM's atomic generation publication; preserve external runtimes, target markers, and conflict refusal. Keep one source-update completion owner and port upstream lifecycle changes to the PM desktop/runtime paths.
iter_plugin_dirs stat'd <child>/__init__.py inside every plugin dir, so a
single mode-000 / ACL-denied $HERMES_HOME/plugins/<x> still raised
PermissionError out of the loader, memory-provider discovery (dashboard
memory settings, hermes memory setup, plugins memory picker) and the
user cron-provider scan. Catch OSError per child and log the same
'Skipping unreadable plugin directory' warning the list path already emits.
Part of #111804
`_provider_pip_dependencies` still read ~/.hermes/hindsight/config.json with
strict utf-8 inside a bare `except Exception`, so a Windows-editor BOM made the
`mode` lookup silently fail and `hermes update` reinstalled only
`hindsight-client`, leaving the embedded daemon broken — the exact #70636
symptom this helper exists to prevent. Route it through the shared
`read_json_or_empty` (utf-8-sig, {} on missing/corrupt) like the other memory
readers in this PR, and add the reader to the parametrized BOM invariant.
mem0, hindsight and the honcho CLI all read through utils.read_json_or_empty,
so the seven per-loader tests collapse to one parametrized invariant plus the
Qwen creds case. The per-loader fix landed in the shared reader (one site, not
six), which is the salvage bar: <=2 invariant tests, no change-detectors.
Port from earendil-works/pi#8337 (UTF-8 BOM normalization in text inputs):
sibling sites the merged #81967 BOM sweep missed. json.loads hard-fails on
a leading U+FEFF and every one of these loaders swallows the exception and
silently falls back to defaults — a user who edited mem0.json, honcho.json,
hindsight/config.json, or supermemory.json in Notepad lost their whole
config with no error, and Qwen CLI OAuth creds saved with a BOM raised
qwen_auth_read_failed.
- plugins/memory/{honcho,mem0,hindsight,supermemory}: 13 read sites -> utf-8-sig
- hermes_cli/auth.py: _read_qwen_cli_tokens -> utf-8-sig
- tests: BOM regression tests per loader (sabotage-proven) + plain-UTF-8 guard
- none-returning client counts as success (sentinel contract)
- pending buffer drops oldest past the turn cap and the byte cap
- the shutdown interleaving test now pre-seeds a pending turn so the
no-resend assert discriminates on content, not timing: with the lock
removed it fails on assert 2 == 1 (duplicate send), verified by mutation
Answers the open review ask on #109359 with the corrected contract: a hung
remote add_memory is bounded by the SDK timeout (empirically 1.03s at
timeout=1.0, max_retries=0), so shutdown's flush waiting on the capture
lock is bounded, not forever. The guard: while the worker owns the write
(blocked inside add_memory), a concurrent shutdown must wait and must not
re-send the same pending batch. Mutation-checked: lock -> nullcontext
makes this test and the session-switch interleaving test fail.
Eight tests compare a recorded custom_id against a freshly computed
_capture_custom_id; near a 4h-bucket edge the provider's write and the
test's expectation read now() in different buckets and the equality
fails. The frozen_capture_clock fixture pins the module datetime so both
reads are identical by construction.
sync_turn runs on the MemoryManager worker, but on_session_switch and
shutdown run on the caller thread, so two _write_turns() calls could
snapshot the same pending batch and each replace the whole list (duplicate
append or lost pending turn). A capture lock now covers the
snapshot/write/replace sequence; _write_turns() reads pending turns inside
the lock instead of taking a caller-built list.
Retries are at-least-once: the documents API appends on a shared custom_id
and does not dedupe by content, so a write it accepted but whose response
was lost is appended again. Stated in the docstring and README instead of
implied.
Addresses review on #109359.
A failed flush at on_session_switch() restored the pending buffer and
then cleared it on the next line, so an unavailable service at the switch
boundary still lost every pending turn. Pending turns now carry their own
session_id; _write_turns() batches per session, so a later retry (next
turn, session end, shutdown) writes old-session turns under the old
session's custom_id even after the switch.
Addresses review on #109359.
sync_turn now writes each completed turn through the SDK's documents.add,
keyed by custom_id "<session>_<date>_b<0-5>" so all turns of a session in
one 4-hour window append to a single document. This matches the capture
shape of the other Supermemory agent integrations and removes the raw
urllib POST to /v4/conversations, which the self-hosted server does not
implement (#101270).
Failed turn writes stay pending and are retried with the next turn, at
session end, on session switch, and at shutdown. Previously a failed
session-end ingest was logged once and the whole session was lost.
Inline base64 data URIs in captured text are replaced with "[image]" so
pasted screenshots no longer land in the document as megabytes of text.
Metadata stays type/session_id/timestamp plus the existing sm_source.
Under gateway.multiplex_profiles os.environ holds the default profile's .env, so `_run_brv`
building the child env from raw os.environ curated a secondary profile's turns into the DEFAULT
profile's ByteRover cloud account (and prefetched the default's memories into the secondary's
context). The local half was already profile-scoped (`_get_brv_cwd`).
The child env now comes from `build_subprocess_env` and, under multiplex, strips the launch
profile's residue and sets BRV_API_KEY only from the served profile's secret scope — a miss means
no cloud key. Single-profile installs pass the process env through unchanged.
Closes#108993 (report and fix direction by @jonpol01).
`langfuse._secret` and `azure_identity_adapter._scoped_env` were changed to
raise rather than fall back, because swallowing `UnscopedSecretError` hides the
spawn-site bug the exception exists to surface. `_scoped_setting` looked like it
contradicted that, so make the split explicit and pin it.
Hindsight already follows the contract for everything that decides WHERE data
goes: `mode`, `apiKey` and the `bankId` partition read through bare
`get_secret`, so a scopeless multiplexed read raises. In `_load_config` that
raise happens on `HINDSIGHT_MODE` before any shaping value is reached, so the
swallow below cannot mask an isolation failure.
Presentation shaping is deliberately not in that class. `MemoryManager._each_provider`
logs an `initialize` failure at WARNING and drops the provider for the session,
so raising there would cost the whole memory provider because a speaker prefix
could not be resolved. It degrades to the provider's own default instead —
never to `os.environ`, which under multiplex is the default profile's.
The test names the offending key rather than asserting that something raised:
routing `mode` through the shaping helper shifts the failure to
`HINDSIGHT_API_KEY`, which a bare `pytest.raises` would still accept.
_load_config() reads the Hindsight bank, mode and retain tags through the profile
secret scope, but _apply_retain_settings() then discarded that answer and re-read
os.environ whenever the config value was falsy:
return cfg.get(key) or os.environ.get(env_var, default)
Under gateway.multiplex_profiles os.environ holds the DEFAULT profile's .env, so a
secondary profile's scoped miss came back as the default profile's retain tags,
observation scopes, source and speaker prefixes — the fallback-after-miss shape
gateway/AGENTS.md forbids. Tags are Hindsight's retrieval partition and
metadata.source is opt-in by design, so the secondary's memories were both
mislabelled and selectable by the default profile's tag filters.
Both halves now go through _scoped_setting(), which resolves the value with
get_secret() and falls back to the provider's OWN default — a miss is a miss, the
same rule embedded.py already applies to the daemon's key and base URL. The three
raw reads left inside _load_config() (retain_source, retain_user_prefix,
retain_assistant_prefix), directly under the comment declaring them per-profile,
go through it too.
Single-profile deployments are unchanged: with no scope installed get_secret()
still reads the process env, where the value IS this profile's own.
Fixes#108865
main folded the plugin's contextvars-inheriting thread wrapper into
agent.memory_provider.spawn_context_thread. The registry this stack adds for
join_plugin_threads keeps a thin client.spawn_context_thread that calls the core
spawner and records the thread under its owner; the four spawn sites import it
from client. main's inherit-profile test builds a real provider now that
_spawn_write is an instance method (the owner is what gets joined).
The retained comment still claimed a scope-less multiplex caller could load an
OSS config; identity reads above it raise UnscopedSecretError first. Both the
comment and the regression test now say the same thing: callers are scoped, an
OSS profile whose scope lacks MEM0_API_KEY initializes, and a scope-less caller
is a spawn-site bug that raises.
read_json_or_empty returns {} for malformed JSON; returning that directly from
_load_config made a corrupt profile config.json yield an empty (silently
unconfigured) mapping where the pre-dedup loop kept walking to the legacy
file and then the env branch. Only a non-empty parsed object is now returned.
Three shims caught UnscopedSecretError and degraded to "" (mem0._scoped_env)
or to os.environ (langfuse._secret, azure_identity_adapter._scoped_env). Under
multiplex os.environ holds the DEFAULT profile's .env, so the langfuse/azure
fallback could ship another profile's keys, and the mem0 fallback silently
routed a mis-spawned turn's memories into the default profile's account. The
exception exists to surface exactly that spawn-site bug (agent/AGENTS.md:
never add environ fallthrough, never swallow it). All three now call
agent.secret_scope.get_secret directly: with a scope installed a miss returns
the default; single-profile deployments (multiplex off) still read the process
env inside get_secret; a scope-less multiplex caller raises.
Behavior change: a mis-spawned child under gateway.multiplex_profiles now
fails loud with UnscopedSecretError instead of running silently unauthenticated
/ on the default profile's identity. The #99121 contract (OSS mode needs no
MEM0_API_KEY in scope) is unchanged and its test now installs an empty profile
scope, which is the situation the issue described; a genuinely scope-less
caller is asserted to raise in a new test.
Tests: tests/plugins/test_scoped_secret_readers_fail_closed.py (scope wins over
environ; scope-less multiplex raises) for langfuse + azure, sabotage red when
the langfuse fallthrough is restored; tests/plugins/memory/test_mem0_v3.py::
test_load_config_fails_closed_without_scope_even_for_identity_settings,
sabotage red with a swallowing wrapper reinstated.
Six of eight memory providers spawned plain threading.Thread for prefetch/sync/
writer work. A plain thread starts with an EMPTY contextvars.Context, so under
multiplex profiles the worker resolved the DEFAULT profile's HERMES_HOME (and
fails closed on scoped secrets). honcho and hindsight had each noticed and
written their own copy_context() wrapper; core had a third in memory_manager.
One canonical pair now lives on the ABC module every provider already imports:
agent/memory_provider.py::ctx_bound / spawn_context_thread. memory_manager,
honcho, hindsight, mem0, retaindb, byterover, supermemory and openviking all use
it; the honcho and hindsight wrappers and memory_manager._ctx_bound are deleted.
Five "json.loads(path.read_text()) or {}" readers (mem0._read_mem0_json,
honcho client/oauth/cli _read_config, hindsight save_config/_load_config) fold
into utils.read_json_or_empty, the read half of every read-merge-atomic_json_write
sidecar store.
holographic.save_config was the only config.yaml writer in the tree that
bypassed hermes_cli.config.save_config: raw open("w") + yaml.dump with no config
lock, no managed-mode refusal, no atomic replace, and a swallowed exception. It
now calls save_config(..., merge_existing=True). Behavior change: a managed
install refuses the write (previously silently rewrote config.yaml); other
sections are deep-merged instead of round-tripped through a raw dump.
openviking._hermes_home_path guarded an impossible ImportError of
hermes_constants (the module already imports agent.*) with a ~/.hermes fallback
that is wrong on Windows and under profile overrides; it is replaced by
get_hermes_home() directly.
Tests: tests/plugins/memory/test_provider_threads_inherit_profile.py drives each
provider's real spawn path with a fake backend and asserts the thread sees the
spawner's HERMES_HOME override (sabotage: retaindb back on threading.Thread ->
red). tests/plugins/memory/test_holographic_save_config.py pins merge-with-
existing-sections and managed-mode refusal (sabotage: raw yaml.dump -> red).
Competing installers and checkout-local venv assumptions bypassed PM
selection, install consent, and generation lifetimes. Route consumers
through PM and installation-bound launchers. Refresh source launchers
before obsolete Python entries can be collected.
Remove Node, browser, and CUA acquisition engines, obsolete venv-holder
handling, detached sync, and unused PM APIs. Keep historical updater
exports inert and preserve external tool ownership and native integration.
Share product freshness and prepared inputs across builders. Align plugin
admission, Docker provisioning, setup instructions, and behavioral tests.
Verified targeted Python and JavaScript tests, desktop and web typechecks,

The missed post-setup test cleanup is included and verified.
Native Windows/macOS execution, full Rust compilation, and the complete
repository suite remain unverified. Historical compatibility requirements
were preserved and extended, not fully rescanned.
_truncate_for_sync documents "the last sentence boundary within max_len", but it
looped over separator KINDS and returned on the first kind that qualified. An early
"。" therefore outranked a "." 240 characters later, and in pure ASCII "." outranked
a later "!" or "?" purely because it comes first in the tuple.
With the 450-char default, "a"*200 + "。" + "b"*240 + "." + "c"*100 kept 201 of the
442 characters available: 241 characters the embedder would have accepted were
discarded, so any fact in the second half of the turn never reached extraction. The
add() call succeeds, so unlike #106235 nothing is logged — the turn is simply
remembered from its first sentence. Raising sync_max_chars widens the gap rather
than closing it.
Take the max over every separator instead, from a named tuple so the set is not
buried in the loop. ".\n" is dropped: its index can never exceed the bare "." it
starts with, so under a max it is unreachable. The first-third guard and the hard-cut
fallback for unsegmented input are unchanged.
