Reconcile plugin declarations and validation through PM's atomic generation publication; preserve external runtimes, target markers, and conflict refusal. Keep one source-update completion owner and port upstream lifecycle changes to the PM desktop/runtime paths.
Squashed integration of the user-facing message audit for this surface set.
Full per-finding receipts: /tmp/ux-audit/lanes/*-receipt.md (campaign artifacts).
Gateway, dashboard, ACP server and the CLI already hold one registry-shared
SessionDB per state.db path, yet several in-process call paths still opened
a bare SessionDB() beside it. Each one is a full writer: schema init, write
lock, token-writer thread and a close-time WAL checkpoint. On a dashboard
serving overlapping requests that stacked up to the "5 live SessionDB
handles" precursor within seconds; per #110544 they are now harmless to each
other's WAL generation, but the leak itself remained.
Pure readers attach read_only=True (no writer connection, no write lock):
- plugins/hermes-achievements/dashboard/plugin_api.py::scan_sessions
(dashboard, per background scan and per /rescan; highest-frequency site)
- hermes_cli/console_engine.py::_session_db (dashboard console; list,
stats and export are reads; rename/optimize opt in to a writer)
- tools/process_registry_results.py::_owns_result (gateway, per retained
result load)
- hermes_cli/main.py::_session_db (last-session / title / cwd lookups)
- hermes_cli/terminal_breadcrumbs.py, hermes_cli/status.py,
hermes_cli/main_tui_launch.py (lookup one-shots)
Writers share the process's registry handle (hermes_state_registry.acquire;
close()/release_or_close release one refcount):
- acp_adapter/session.py::SessionManager._get_db — the AIAgent it builds
acquires the same path, so the ACP server held two writers per process
- hermes_cli/kanban_db_dispatch.py::_retag_legacy_worker_sessions
(gateway dispatcher tick)
- hermes_cli/main.py::_create_titled_session, hermes_cli/oneshot.py,
hermes_cli/foreign_sessions.py — the CLI acquires the same handle a
moment later
The "N live SessionDB handles" warning now counts only writable members:
read-only attaches are the sanctioned per-request shape for dashboard
routers and CLI lookups, and counting them turned a healthy topology into
an operator alarm (#100896 field reports of restart loops keyed on it).
Live repro (one registry writer + 4 overlapping dashboard/gateway paths in
one process): before 5 writable opens, 5 live handles, warning fired;
after 1 writable open (the registry handle), 0 from the request paths,
no warning.

Preserve upstream fixes without restoring retired dependency installers.
Run configured-feature checks in the selected build interpreter. Reuse a
supported base Python during bootstrap, and preserve durable backup media.
Refresh the dependency lock through PM. Keep the frozen historical import
surface unchanged. Adapt incoming native tests to the platform markers.
Verification: the incoming 86-file pass found two fixture mismatches;
both passed after correction. Targeted PM/update/compatibility checks,
Electron and renderer typechecks, and desktop tests passed.
Native Windows/macOS update journeys and the full suite remain unrun.
Competing installers and checkout-local venv assumptions bypassed PM
selection, install consent, and generation lifetimes. Route consumers
through PM and installation-bound launchers. Refresh source launchers
before obsolete Python entries can be collected.
Remove Node, browser, and CUA acquisition engines, obsolete venv-holder
handling, detached sync, and unused PM APIs. Keep historical updater
exports inert and preserve external tool ownership and native integration.
Share product freshness and prepared inputs across builders. Align plugin
admission, Docker provisioning, setup instructions, and behavioral tests.
Verified targeted Python and JavaScript tests, desktop and web typechecks,
scoped lint, real product builds, and the Docker frontend smoke test.
The missed post-setup test cleanup is included and verified.
Native Windows/macOS execution, full Rust compilation, and the complete
repository suite remain unverified. Historical compatibility requirements
were preserved and extended, not fully rescanned.
PM owns Python dependency generations. Shared frontend builders own Node
preparation and compilation. Route source updates and launchers through
these owners instead of separate repair ladders.
Remove obsolete live-venv holder gates and soft build-failure plumbing.
Preserve source validation, staged publication, fleet outcomes, and
historical relaunch hooks.
Verification: 956 tests passed in the combined focused run, with 43 skips.
After the final ZIP exit fix, 583 focused tests passed. Shared JavaScript
builder tests, Ruff, and diff checks passed. Native Windows/macOS and full
packaged-app builds were not run.
Every inline glyph — CLI banner/status bar/response labels/goodbye, setup
and doctor boxes, gateway update prompts, WhatsApp reply prefix, TUI theme,
locale strings and the docs — used ⚕, the staff of Asclepius (medicine).
Hermes carries the Caduceus ☤. The ASCII-art logo was already correct.
Mechanical swap across 60 files (no logic change); both glyphs are
East-Asian-width Neutral so no layout shifts. Skins that set their own
`response_label` / `goodbye` are unaffected.
Direction from PR #7064 (@bixycler), the earliest of #7064 / #9611 / #15574,
redone against current main.
Fixes#9565
Build TUI, web, desktop UI and runnable agent products from explicit
prepared inputs. Keep dependency preparation separate from distribution
packaging, with PM and native builds sharing uv environment construction.
Docker copies compiled frontend products instead of build dependencies.
Nix retains uv2nix environments and consumes shared assembly through store
references. Native desktop and Termux use the same launcher and frontend
contracts. Preserve the independent PM runtime and source imports from
arbitrary working directories.
Keep failed frontend builds from replacing the previous product, reject
source/output overlap, and bound dependency-process output draining.
Include hermes_wisdom in the Nix wheel: real CLI smoke tests exposed its
missing package declaration on the base revision too.
Verified focused Python and JavaScript suites, Docker build/runtime checks,
Nix desktop and CLI/ACP checks, standalone TUI and packaged Electron PTY,
and real full-Chromium interaction. Native signed installers, Android device
installation and the full repository suite remain CI verification.
Keep upstream's reviewed catalog as the only plugin name index.
Catalog pins and custom update sources share staged PM validation.
Publish code and dependencies with recovery after process death.
Reject a concurrent enablement change before publishing disabled code.
Use the manifest loader's supported version in the installer. Keep
probe cooldowns for timeouts, not TLS failures that a CA change fixes.
Preserve the backup, uninstall, browser and memory-provider repairs.
Verified with the canonical runner on native Windows ARM64, real Git
repositories, local TLS endpoints and UV dependency generations.
Desktop catalog tests and both TypeScript checks pass. The full suite
and native release builds were not run. No remote push.
Fold the helper into _npm_lifecycle_env itself: the whole fix is one
is_file() check plus a setdefault, so a separate function, the
try/except around get_hermes_home() (it never raises) and the
dict-returning indirection were shape-gate violations. Build the path
with os.fspath so it is correct on Windows too.
Tests: keep the two invariants (file present -> NPM_CONFIG_USERCONFIG
points at it; explicit process/caller value wins and a missing file
sets nothing), fold the other two into the negative test.
Docs: one paragraph in the desktop troubleshooting page next to
ELECTRON_MIRROR describing $HERMES_HOME/npmrc.

Merge upstream b1f003e186 while preserving PM runtime ownership and
Python 3.14 worker startup, Windows signing, and macOS wait recovery.
Keep retired runtime modules deleted. Port upstream updater preflight
checks into the checkout strategy and preserve live build logging.
Carry checkpoint filename handling and process recovery into the current
module layout. Regenerate locks and adapt incoming platform test markers.
Focused Python and JavaScript tests, desktop and root-test typechecks,
conflict-path lint checks, lock validation, and retired-import checks pass.
The full test suite and packaged release builds were not run.
Fence owner discovery by profile, lease and loopback endpoint, and hand the authenticated URL to the existing Ink transport without acquiring a competing lease. Distinguish lease age from turn activity in unsupported-owner recovery.
Client slice only: requires the integration runtime to advertise shared_runtime_url and provide the session-attach handshake. Classic CLI attachment remains an integration gap.
For each issue anchor present in BASE 63279301bc non-test .py and absent on HEAD, the BASE comment/docstring block was re-attached at the HEAD location of the code it explained (matched by the distinctive code line / enclosing def). Sentences already covered by an existing HEAD comment were deduped; the issue number always survives. Insert-only: no code lines changed.
