`hermes config edit` and `hermes doctor --fix` each carried their own
"copy cli-config.yaml.example, else save DEFAULT_CONFIG" block, and they had
already drifted: doctor's template copy skipped _secure_file, so the seeded
config.yaml kept the checkout's mode instead of 0600. Seeder drift is the
bug class behind #121230 (one seeder wrote DEFAULT_CONFIG verbatim and pinned
global display values over every messaging platform's defaults).
Both now call hermes_cli.config.seed_config_file(config_path, template=None),
which returns whether the template was used (doctor keeps its message).
Doctor still passes its own PROJECT_ROOT template so its tests' patching
keeps working. Drops doctor_config's now-unused shutil import.
Resolved toward the branch: PM provisions uv/python (main's install.ps1 uv-shim
salvage + its test and workflow steps dropped), the shim re-exec stays retired,
package.json carries no electron-builder block (afterExtract identity stamp wired
into electron-builder.config.cjs instead; after-pack.mjs keeps signing only),
Desktop workspace-deps helpers stay retired. Main's scratch-dir bootstrap
(export_scratch_tmp_env) is taken and re-run after profile resolution.
hermes doctor validated model.provider but never the auxiliary blocks, so a
task whose provider could not be resolved (and therefore silently ran on the
main model) passed as healthy. The config check now runs each routed block
through resolve_runtime_provider — the entry point the tasks themselves use —
and turns a resolver error into a finding with the resolver's reason; the
green line shows the resolved provider@host so a block that fell to the public
default endpoint is visible too. Docs: the openai direct-API alias, its
endpoint precedence, and the new warning/doctor behaviour.
`hermes doctor` warned that `nvidia/z-ai/glm-5.2` "uses a vendor/model slug
but provider is 'openai-api'" even though model.base_url pointed at a local
OpenAI-compatible router, where the router owns the model namespace and the
vendor-prefixed id is the correct one. The warning now applies only when
openai-api targets api.openai.com (or has no base_url); the rest of the
vendor-slug policy is unchanged.

GET /api/providers/custom-endpoints read only providers:, so a post-migration
custom_providers: list entry (still routed by get_compatible_custom_providers)
had no row and could be deleted nowhere. Build the legacy rows from that same
merged view (source "custom_providers"; entries from providers: carry a
provider_key, legacy ones do not). DELETE removes the matching list entry
when the id is not under providers:; activate promotes the entry to
providers.<key> first, since the main slot names providers by key.
The doctor residue check keeps firing but no longer claims the row is missing;
its rationale, the docs line and the non-list message now talk about the
retired list store ("legacy custom_providers entries are ignored until it is").
`hermes doctor` (and the startup config-structure warning) now report a
`custom_providers` value that is not a YAML list — naming the key and the
received type — instead of the runtime silently serving "0 endpoints".
Doctor also warns about every legacy `custom_providers` list entry whose
endpoint URL has no `providers:` twin, with the exact move to make: such an
entry is served by the chat picker (dual-read view) but has no row on the
Custom Endpoints settings page, and the one-shot v11→v12 list migration
(config_migrations._migrate_to_12) never re-fires once the version is past 12.
Warn-only on purpose: re-running the migration would mint `<key>-N`
duplicates for entries that DO have a twin.
Desktop: Custom Endpoints and Local Models send unscoped requests and always
edit the app's active profile; they now print the same "Changes on this page
apply to the “X” profile." note the Model page uses (hidden with one profile).

3fad83df31 (Aug 11) moved Relay exporter config to a plugins.toml
selected by HERMES_NEMO_RELAY_PLUGINS_TOML. A .env still carrying the legacy
exporter vars and no TOML logs ONE warning and initialises no exporters, so
users who followed the earlier docs lost every trace silently (the
maintainer's stopped Aug 20, noticed Sep 14; five multiplexed profiles on
the same box carry the same eight vars today).
- `hermes_cli/relay_plugin_migrate.py`: build the document from the
`nemo_relay.observability` dataclasses (`ComponentSpec(...).to_dict()`,
so the `type = "file"` sink discriminator is emitted), validate it by
activating it through `nemo_relay.plugin.initialize` + `clear_async`,
write `<home>/relay-plugins.toml` (tomli_w when installed, minimal emitter
otherwise), set HERMES_NEMO_RELAY_PLUGINS_TOML in that .env, and comment
the legacy lines out (never delete). Defaults mirror the removed plugin so
files land where they used to.
- `hermes update` runs it for the default home AND every live named profile
(each writes its own TOML) as a best-effort post-update step, with a loud
notice; `hermes migrate relay [--all-profiles] [--no-validate]` runs it on
demand.
- The runtime WARNING and the `hermes doctor` finding now say "NO traces
are being exported" and name the exact command and file path.
- Docs: environment-variables.md + built-in-plugins.md carry the migration
note and a complete plugins.toml example including `type = "file"`.
Prepare dependency generations before selecting them. Keep shipped tool

Verification: 206 changed/prior-failing Python files reported 4630 passed,
one failed, and 330 skipped. Fix the remaining Hindsight fixture boundary.
The final targeted rerun reported 234 passed and two skipped. The store
review regression batch reported 83 passed and one skipped. Desktop
TypeScript checks, 56 selected Electron tests, 24 release tests, and the
removed-import/compatibility guards passed.
This is an integration checkpoint, not full audit acceptance. The complete
Python suite has not run on this fixed tree. Crash-atomic plugin publication,
generation cleanup, receipt correlation, and packaged lifecycle acceptance
remain open in docs/pm-audit-status.md.
hermes_cli/plugin_compat.py is now the single source of truth for the compat window:
COMPAT_REMOVAL_DATE = 2026-09-14; scan_plugin() statically finds `from F import n`, `import F` + `F.n`,
alias forms and string targets against compat_manifest.json; compat_report() aggregates over the user's
ENABLED external (non-bundled) plugins; disable_reason() decides the loader's skip.
Surfaces (all read from that one report):
* CLI: yellow block under the banner naming plugins + date + `hermes plugins compat` (red + DISABLED after)
* `hermes plugins compat [--json] [path]`: file:line, old -> new per hit; exit 1 while anything remains;
`path` lets a plugin author scan their own checkout
* `hermes doctor`: "Plugin import paths (removed Sep 14, 2026)" section next to the xAI retirement check
* `hermes update`: post-update notice alongside the FTS/curator notices
* Desktop: compat_report() writes HERMES_HOME/.plugin-compat-report.json (deleted when clean); Electron
shows ONE warning dialog per distinct report after the backend is up and persists the dismissal in
userData/plugin-compat-dismissed.json. A new affected plugin, or the date passing, is a new report.
From the date, PluginManager skips a hitting external plugin before importing it, with the reason in
LoadedPlugin.error ("uses N import path(s) removed on 2026-09-14; run `hermes plugins compat` ...") — the
same path a plugin with a broken register() takes, so nothing else is affected. Escape hatch:
plugins.allow_deprecated_imports: true (config_defaults), which only helps until the compat commit is
actually reverted.
Docs: COMPAT_MANIFEST.md (removal date, what-happens table, author instructions), plugin dev guide section.
Tests: tests/test_plugin_compat_notice.py (scanner forms, report scope, date gate + escape hatch, summary
text, report file lifecycle, loader skip via a real PluginManager), electron/plugin-compat-notice.test.ts
(show once, re-show on a different set or on the date passing, malformed file ignored).
Live A/B on this box with a demo plugin on old paths: before the date it loads and the banner/doctor/report
name it; with today=2026-09-14 it is skipped with the reason and the banner turns red; with the escape
hatch it loads again.
No runtime consumer read the proxy (terminal_tool/environments call is_interrupted()/set_interrupt()
directly); its only users were tests patching tools.interrupt._interrupt_event, which had no effect on
the code under test. tools/terminal_tool.py's own re-export of the name is owned by another worker.
For each issue anchor present in BASE 63279301bc non-test .py and absent on HEAD, the BASE comment/docstring block was re-attached at the HEAD location of the code it explained (matched by the distinctive code line / enclosing def). Sentences already covered by an existing HEAD comment were deduped; the issue number always survives. Insert-only: no code lines changed.
