#119410 registered gpt-6-terra alongside sol and luna from the request text, and the Codex
forward-compat synthesis put it (and -900k) in the live /model picker on every surface.
Nothing serves it: not the Codex account catalog (astra, sol, luna), not OpenRouter (same
three, plus -pro), and OpenAI's model page 404s. Forward-compat is for published tiers the
account catalog has not listed yet, not for guessed names. Removed from the Codex fallback
list and template chain, the context/900k tables, the effort ladder prefixes, the aux-client
family list, and the Nous/OpenRouter static catalogs; catalog JSON regenerated. A contract
test pins the synthesized GPT-6 set to the published tiers.
OpenAI shipped gpt-6-sol / gpt-6-terra / gpt-6-luna as the successors of the
gpt-5.6 tier line (Sol and Luna live on OpenRouter + the Nous Portal today).
The curated aggregator catalogs (OPENROUTER_MODELS and the derived nous list,
plus the published website model-catalog.json) now carry the gpt-6 tiers and
their -pro variants instead of the 5.6 ones; the openai-api curated fallback
lists them ahead of 5.6.
Codex OAuth support mirrors the 5.6 + Astra contract for every gpt-6 tier:
curated fallback + forward-compat synthesis (from the 5.6 twin or 5.5),
272K advertised fallback, the opt-in -900k picker variants with the
live-verified 900K bump (still capped by the catalog's max_context_window),
dated-snapshot eligibility, wire-suffix stripping, the compaction auto-raise
on the base slug, and the gpt-5.6 effort ladder (max allowed, minimal
rejected). Pricing rows for gpt-6-sol / gpt-6-luna come from OpenAI's model
pages (272K whole-request tier like Astra); Terra has no published page yet
so it deliberately has none.
/model gpt keeps resolving to the flagship: "astra" joins the rank-0 suffix
set so gpt-6-astra sorts above gpt-6-sol.
`ultra` is a Hermes-internal ladder step (agent/reasoning_effort.py):
no provider wire accepts it and every clamp maps it to the route's
strongest level (max on GPT-5.6 Codex / OpenAI-compatible routes, xhigh
on older Codex models), yet the CLI /reasoning status and the gateway
inline picker presented it as a distinct level. Add one helper,
effort_display_label(), that renders "<level> (sends <clamped> on this
route)" for any clamped level and call it from both surfaces; document
the clamp on the reasoning-effort page. The wire is untouched.
Part of #61634
OpenCode's free tier now returns HTTP 403 for anonymous traffic outside
the OpenCode client, so the built-in keyless provider is dead weight:
- drop the opencode-free provider row, aliases (free/opencode_free), model
catalog, keyless runtime ladder rung, header wiring, and cached slugs
- delete the model-providers/opencode-free plugin
- update tests and the compat manifest for the removed symbols
- keep a migration hint in auth.py so users who had it configured see a
clear error naming the removal
Existing opencode-free configs can move to opencode-zen (pay-as-you-go)
or opencode-go (flat subscription).
Follow-up to the cherry-picked #112019 (@KoNit-K): the clamp in the generic
``extra_body.reasoning`` fallback only covered providers WITHOUT a
reasoning-aware profile. On the profile path (OpenRouter/Nous slots used as
MoA aggregator or aux model) ``_project_provider_profile`` received the raw
config and the OpenRouter profile passes ``ultra`` through whenever the
catalog vocabulary is cold, so the 400 from #112010 survived there.
Move the clamp up to ``_build_call_kwargs`` so both the profile projection
and the fallback see a wire-level effort — the same entry clamp the main
transport applies in ``_reasoning_config_for_model`` (#89503). The shared
policy lives once in ``agent.reasoning_effort.clamp_reasoning_config``; the
transport delegates to it instead of carrying its own copy.
Offline kwargs probe (issue's exact call): before
``extra_body.reasoning == {'enabled': True, 'effort': 'ultra'}`` on nous and
openrouter aux/MoA routes; after ``'effort': 'max'`` on every route,
``high`` verbatim and ``{'enabled': False}`` unchanged.
Four chat_completions profiles (kimi-coding, deepseek, opencode-go's Kimi K2 and DeepSeek branches, actual) each hand-rolled the same extra_body.thinking / top-level reasoning_effort translation, and the copies had already drifted in small ways (kimi's `.get("enabled", True)`, deepseek's separate effort parsing). agent.reasoning_effort.thinking_toggle_extras is now the single implementation: the Moonshot default emits effort XOR toggle (both is an HTTP 400), and always_emit_toggle=True covers DeepSeek's contract where the toggle must ride on every request to dodge the reasoning_content echo trap. actual keeps its two contract-specific lines (reasoning_config None -> nothing; effort "none" -> disabled toggle plus reasoning_effort="none", which the relay accepts as a real level) and delegates the rest. ox_alpha_reasoning_extras moves alongside so opencode-free imports it like any other helper instead of reaching into the zen plugin's module through sys.modules and swallowing every exception into ({}, {}) - a failure there previously silently dropped the user's effort setting. No wire behavior changes; tests/plugins/model_providers/test_thinking_toggle_parity.py pins the XOR invariant across the matrix and zen/free parity.
The slug pair {"gpt-6-astra", "gpt-6-astra-900k"} was spelled out five times
(reasoning_effort, transports/codex, models.py x2, codex_models) with five hand-rolled
``.strip().lower().rsplit("/", 1)[-1]`` normalisations. ``is_astra_model`` in
agent/reasoning_effort.py (the module the other four already import) is now the only home, so a
new Astra alias is one edit.
``_finalize_codex_models(..., allow_astra=)`` was a control-coupling flag set True by the two
live callers and left False by the two static ones. The filter now lives where the untrusted
inputs are — ``_drop_undiscovered_astra`` over config.toml default + models_cache.json in
``get_codex_model_ids`` — and ``_finalize_codex_models`` is back to its one-line original.
DEFAULT_CODEX_MODELS never contains Astra, so the static catalog needs no gate.
``_openai_catalog`` appends whatever Astra ids live discovery returned instead of a name-keyed
``if "gpt-6-astra" in live_lower`` branch with a literal fallback that could never fire.
The Sep 2026 decomposition (PR #102117) makes internal import paths a non-API: names now live in
the focused modules that define them. This commit is the ONLY thing keeping the old paths alive,
so external plugins have time to update. It is deliberately a single, unsquashed commit:
git revert <this sha>
removes every shim, stub and manifest at once on the announced date. Nothing in-tree may depend on
these pointers: scripts/check_compat_pointers.py (wired into lint.yml) fails CI if it does.
What it adds (see COMPAT_MANIFEST.md, compat_manifest.json):
- 332 facade modules get one delimited `PLUGIN-COMPAT` block appended at the end of the file
- 1,172 moved names resolved lazily via a module `__getattr__` (PEP 562) — never a top-level import,
so no import cycles; facades that already had `__getattr__` get a chained one
- 592 third-party/stdlib names the old modules used to expose, with their original import statements
- 266 public definitions that had been deleted as unused, restored byte-for-byte from the pre-decomposition
tree (+40 private helpers and 16 imports pulled in only because a restored definition needs them)
- 3 deleted modules recreated as re-export stubs (gateway/startup_watchdog, hermes_cli/observability/
relay_runtime, tools/environments/modal_utils)
- private names (`_x`) get no pointer: they were never API (3,792 skipped)
Verified: all 335 touched modules import under a fresh HERMES_HOME and every manifest name resolves;
the lint reports zero in-tree uses; ruff clean; targeted suites unchanged.
For each issue anchor present in BASE 63279301bc non-test .py and absent on HEAD, the BASE comment/docstring block was re-attached at the HEAD location of the code it explained (matched by the distinctive code line / enclosing def). Sentences already covered by an existing HEAD comment were deduped; the issue number always survives. Insert-only: no code lines changed.
Review finding on salvaged #28253: the hand-rolled mapping sent
ultra -> medium while xhigh -> high (stronger request, weaker wire
value). Declare NEBIUS_EFFORTS in agent/reasoning_effort.py and use
clamp_effort like the zai/kimi/tokenhub call sites; disable detection
stays ahead of the clamp since clamp_effort('none', ...) returns the
floor, not off. Adds a monotonicity regression test.
GLM-5.3 accepts a graded low/medium/high/max reasoning_effort scale
(verified live in #91789: monotonic reasoning-token scaling, no 400s),
but the effort mapper reused GLM-5.2's two-level vocabulary, silently
rewriting low/medium to high. Adds GLM53_EFFORTS/GLM53_OVERRIDES and a
per-model vocabulary pick in the zai plugin; 5.2 keeps its high/max
clamp. Closes#91789. Also covers the gap noted when closing #86947
(credit @santhanakrishnan-d and @terje1965 for the graded-scale finding).
Widens the salvaged #91323 fix (@vinsew): the effort vocabulary moves to
agent.reasoning_effort (OX_ALPHA_EFFORTS/OVERRIDES, the declared-policy
home every other model vocabulary lives in), and the translation is
shared between the opencode-zen profile and the keyless opencode-free
profile — Ox Alpha is reachable through both, and the free profile
previously dropped effort entirely.
Live-verified: medium clamps to low (raw medium 400s: 'This model always
engages in thinking... use low, high, or max'), xhigh rounds to max, and
full agent turns with effort=medium complete on BOTH providers.
kimi_supported_efforts() used exact/prefix matching and missed Kimi
Coding plan variants like k3-256k, which fell back to the K2-era
low/medium/high set and mistranslated efforts on a K3 wire. Replaced
with the boundary-token regex from #76427 (credit @ruizanthony), which
matches k3/k3-256k/kimi-k3* without matching kimi-k2.6 or mk3000.
Live probes against api.openai.com/v1/responses (Aug 2026):
- gpt-5.6: accepts none/low/medium/high/xhigh/max; rejects minimal, ultra
- gpt-5.5: accepts none/low/medium/high/xhigh; rejects max ('Unsupported
value'), minimal, ultra
So #68365's premise was half right: 'max' does 400 — but only on pre-5.6
models; blanket-clamping max->xhigh on gpt-5.6 (its fix) would have capped
the one model that supports max. The declared-vocabulary design absorbs
this as data: codex_supported_efforts(model) picks CODEX_GPT56_EFFORTS or
CODEX_LEGACY_EFFORTS, and the shared clamp does the rest. Both the main
Codex transport and the auxiliary client's Responses path use it.
Wire outcomes: ultra -> max on gpt-5.6, ultra/max -> xhigh on gpt-5.5/o5,
minimal -> low everywhere.
The #89503/#70058/#74295/#87279 bug class kept regenerating because every
transport and provider profile hand-rolled its own effort translation map
(9 sites, 4 distinct policies). New agent/reasoning_effort.py is the single
source of truth:
- EFFORT_LADDER: canonical low->high ordering (superset check against
VALID_REASONING_EFFORTS pinned by test)
- clamp_effort(): one policy — supported passes verbatim, otherwise nearest
WEAKER supported level (never escalate, never invert the ladder), floor
when nothing weaker, 'none' never a degradation target, declared
vendor-documented overrides win, bespoke names pass through
- declared wire vocabularies as data: OpenAI-compat, Codex Responses,
xAI (4.6/legacy), Actual relays, Kimi K3/K2, TokenHub, GLM-5.2,
DeepSeek V4, Ollama Cloud, Meta, Solar
Converted sites (all behavior-preserving except noted):
- chat_completions chokepoint, Kimi + TokenHub paths
- codex transport (backend branches now pick a declared set)
- auxiliary_client Responses path
- hermes_cli.models clamp_reasoning_effort_to_supported -> thin wrapper
- plugins: kimi-coding, zai, opencode-zen, deepseek, ollama-cloud,
meta-ai, upstage, custom (copilot already routes via the wrapper)
Behavior fixes the shared policy surfaces:
- ollama-cloud/opencode-go 'minimal' now degrades to 'low' instead of
being dropped (drop left the server default = MORE thinking than asked)
New tests: ladder contract (every configurable level is clamped by every
declared wire set; monotonicity across the full ladder for every set).
